So I guess he didn’t REALLY want to stay at his alma mater like he said last year when he turned down bama.

For a lot of coaches, the Alabama job is not as attractive as Michigan.

Don Nehlen is a legend in West Virginia. He is the winningest coach in school history, and was the coach for 21 years before retiring and being replaced by Rodriguez.

Nehlen was an assistant under Bo at Michigan before going to WVU and he told Rodriguez in no uncertain terms that he was nuts if he didn’t go.

Wonder if this means Terrel Pryor to Michigan? He was considering WVU bc of RR and that offense. And there is obviously no QB in Ann Arbor right now that can run that offense. He would be starting next year as a true frosh for sure.

So back to the original topic: Do you think it was worth it for Rodriguez to make himself a persona non gratis at his alma matter? Not only did he take the Michigan job, but he is fighting WVU to get out of his buyout by saying his contract negotiations were subsversive.

Is there a “right way” to leave a coaching job for a better gig?

All of which are distractions while they negotiate with the three real leading candidates: Bill Belichik, Head Coach of the New England Patriots, George W. Bush, President of the United States, and Batman, Caped Crusader of Gotham City.

There really isn’t a right way, and I think most of that is the timing. College coaches are invariably fired after their last game, and the potential replacement, if he’s any good, is still coaching his team. As long as ADs insist on having their replacement named in December, there will continue to be hurt feelings.
