Spurrier went out and hired former Atlanta Falcons linebackers coach Brian VanGorder as his defensive coordinator at South Carolina.
This is the guy I wanted more than any other at Texas, and Chris Applewhite is inconsolable at this point.
VanGorger was outstanding at Georgia and apparently wanted to get back to the SEC.
Spurrier first contacted Bud Foster at Virginia Tech, but he turned him down. VanGorder was then selected from a short list that included 3 current or former SEC defensive coordinators.

We’ve got TWO DC’s, every other program just has one. That means we’re TWICE as good as everyone else. In other words, rather than losing 3 games, we’d have lost SIX with only one DC.
