NBA/NCAA trying to cut out AAU
It looks that way. As a college basketball fan I'm all for it. I'd rather have two semi-image conscious entities make shady backroom deals.

Whenever I see the NCAA or the NBA, I try to follow the money. I have trouble seeing this as a strictly philanthropic effort. This seems like a way to better control the flow of merch deals and ad dollars.
Too cynical?

We need to follow the European model. Youth academies, heavy emphasis on skill and teamwork, etc.
Having a shady “organization” trying to foster a bunch of wannabe Jordans isn’t helping anybody.

David Stern is as big a whore (and pimp) as any AAU coach or parent.

But David Stern has a worldwide brand to protect and grow.
