When we’re in nickel our secondary should go with the five fingered shoes. Take that, Crabtree.

Here’s an extremely rare photo of CA stretching before practice.

It’s so rare in fact it doesn’t even register on the server.

Get ready for all the forearms posts on Aug 7. Oh, and the “X has really improved his Y”.

Brian Carter did some nice things today.

Sergio Kindle sure passes the “eyeball test.”

by BrickHorn on Jul 29, 2008 12:45 PM CDT reply actions

In all seriousness, I went back and watched full game tapes of last year vs OU and NU. When Kindle is in there he jacks people up. Not the best technique, not always under control, but always jacking people up.

I’m surprised he hasn’t seen the field more. He’s one of the 4 high school players I’ve seen play, that you just knew he was going to play on Sundays.

We were really getting after the QB today. _ and ______ will combine for ~20 sacks this year.

by Nordberg on Jul 29, 2008 2:02 PM CDT reply actions

Duane Akina can flat-out coach. One word: INTENSITY.

by BrickHorn on Jul 29, 2008 2:09 PM CDT reply actions

Jordan Shipley is finally 100%. He was clearly the fastest player on offense, as no DB could stay within 20 yards of him at any time.

Cedric Benson was on the sideline, giving advice to Vondrell McGee and Fozzy Whittaker

The offense has installed some new wrinkles.

We have a special package that will allow John and Colt to be on the field at the same time, and by field, I mean Colt between the has marks and John holding the clip board and wearing headphones.

No players will be available to the media until Holiday Bowl practices commence.

by Vasherized on Jul 29, 2008 3:35 PM CDT reply actions

Coach Davis has spent the off-season studying our running game, and it will be much improved. Colt will be a serious threat to keep the ball and that will take pressure off our young running backs, who will surprise a lot of people.

The defense is really flying around to the ball, and we have more speed overall

by RansomStoddard on Jul 29, 2008 4:31 PM CDT reply actions

Several defensive players commented that Ivan Williams / Sneezy Beltran / Henry Melton runs the ball like a freight train. Expect to see a lot of carries for him next season.

While we’re on the subject of funny shit you read on Horn message boards, this actually happened, today:

The dudes at InsideTexas were so lonely and bored that they actually invited echeese back after a four-year hiatus. Answering a question from someone who didn’t know any better about why he had left, he promptly lied.

Some things never change, like the parodies on this thread…

“The defense is really flying around to the ball, and we have more speed overall”

That was the one from last year I enjoyed the most. Thanks for sharing!

Mack some time in October: “We’re still trying to figure out the identity of this team.”

DJ Monroe appears to be an option an kick returner, and a very good one at that.

by dedfischer on Jul 29, 2008 10:01 PM CDT reply actions

I’ve never seen this team practice so hard. You can tell they really want it this year.

by ChrisApplewhite on Jul 29, 2008 11:41 PM CDT reply actions

The young LB’s look so good, there’s no way they don’t start over the older guys.

by Nordberg on Jul 30, 2008 8:37 AM CDT reply actions

one of you barking html wizards please edit that for me.

The world needs to see CA in action.

by Vasherized on Jul 30, 2008 9:53 AM CDT reply actions

Looks like the tight end is going to be a major part of our offense this season.

by BatesHorn on Jul 30, 2008 9:58 AM CDT reply actions

This has been the most physical off season we’ve ever had. A wax statue of Brian Orakpo’s chiseled physique is being erected at Belmont as a testiment to the success of the offseason conditioning program.

Incidentally, Mad Dog threw down three dozen kolaches at morning workouts Tuesday.

The kids are really tired of hitting each other and have decided to stop tackling altogether until they see an FAU jersey. You have to credit the job FAU did with their jerseys this year but our kids will be ready.

It’s always great to see how the young kids will react on their first trip through the tunnel. Last year Malcolm Williams threw up all over Cleve Bryant in the tunnel and we knew he was a year out from contributing. So we’ll watch closely what happens to Malcom in the tunnel to see if he’s ready to go. If he pukes on Cleve again, we’ll apply for a medical redshirt until he’s ready and hope James Kirkendoll or Brian Collins can hold his food and contribute for us at flanker. They’re not true flankers like a Roy Williams, or even a Roydell Williams, but Bobby Kennedy has done such a great job with the kids that all of the positions are interchangeable. If Greg sees the right matchups, we might put Michael Huey in the slot just to get him on the field.

That’s what is so great about each new season, I have really no clue what’s going to happen.

Fishing’s been great here in North Carolina though … Sally really does miss it and if we lose to OU again I might just move back here until Bob Stoops retires and we’ll just pick back up where we left off. I’ll have to ask Deloss if that’s in my contract he he.

See you at Fan Appreciation Day.

“Our best spring since we’ve been here”

-Actual quote from Mack on the MBTF webvid

by gonzo on Jul 30, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

I challenge you to find a spring when he hasn’t said that. At this rate we should be looking like the ’85 Bears in a few years.

by Nordberg on Jul 30, 2008 4:51 PM CDT reply actions

We are tweaking the running game.
Colt has gained 15 lbs of muscle.
We are talking to him to get more involved in the running game.
We only ran 3 zone reads last game the others were off tackles with zone blocking, technically that is not a zone read.
Look for GD to open up the playbooks with special options to include Chiles and the fullback.
Earn the right.

We’re not satisfied with 10-win seasons.
