Tech's Reed Benches 625 lbs
37-year old Rylan Reed, the starting left tackle for Texas Tech, broke his own bench press record by throwing up 625 lbs. This isn't really newsworthy, but I was curious just to see what that much weight looked like on the bar.

I’ve heard of the four year and five year degree plans – is Tech breaking new ground with the 20 year plan?

He arched his ass up off the bench; that isn’t a bench press, it’s an incline press.

Correction: that should read “it’s a decline press”

He actually played minor league baseball with the White Sox (I think) for 4 years. His real age is 27. Reed’s quite an athlete for someone that size. He was recruited to Tech as a tight end.

It’ll be nice watching Orakpo run past him to sack the QB, that bench press will be doing wonders for him then…
On another note, the S&C coach looks just like Mad Dog, 42,562 corny dogs ago!

Big deal. Over the course of my life, I have benched way more than 625 lbs.

It’s comparable to putting Orakpo, Henry Melton, and Mack’s stepson on the bar.

Bennie Wylie is kind of our secret weapon. Welker and Mike Smith have come back to work out with him in the past, and he used to train Deion Sanders when he was at the Cowboys. He has them do a lot of that explosion workout stuff with resistence bands and shit.

Then we will buy him and splice his DNA with Todd Wright’s.

Reed’s lift may not have passed muster at a powerlifting meet, but that’s freakishly strong. He was throwing around 315 like it was candy.

Being Deion Sanders’ trainer is like being Jimi Hendrix’s guitar teacher.

Y’all are killing me here. “One of Mad Dog’s feet”. Awesome.

He doesn’t even get 500 clean.
If you watch the strength coach, though, you can see where he picks up his poor form.

Good for Rylan! After going thru cancer, the loss of his father, then being forced to end a Pro Baseball career, He should be so proud. And he’s 26 and will be 27 in the fall. As far as your comment on the 20 year plan…. I’m sure he’s accomplished a lot more than most at the RIPE age of 26. He just a) had a pro baseball contract at 18 then had to wrap it up due to CANCER! b) is now rolling in the top 10 “workout warriors” in college football. and c) manhandled Chris Long in the Gator Bowl GOOD LUCK to him! He’s gonna do big things.
