Overheard on the Red Raider Internets
"...no you don't have to have a sack but you usually have to make a tackle..."
Regarding the play of Tech sophomore DT Colby Whitlock after not recording a tackle in the EWU game. In a game where the opponent rushed for 26 yards on 22 carries and Brian Duncan had the best game in 10 years for a Tech MLB. And Whitlock forced an interception on a QB knockdown.

Yeah, but did he actually tackle the quarterback?

Because of his lack of hustle, the QB was able to get the ball off before the statitician could get the box filled in. Unfortunately for Whitlock, Daniel Charbonnet filled in the hot Tech box later that evening as a result.

Nebraska’s former defensive staff thought QB sacks were ‘overrated’…and we see how that philosophy worked out for us.

Word…we’ll see how the Rambling Stampede of Oversized Plains Herbivores handles them this week.

The only thing I could add on Tech’s behalf is that they handled EWU much easier than Arizona State did Northern Arizona, a team EWU beat 52-24 at the end of last season. Also, EWU lost to Appy State in the FCS Quarterfinals in triple OT. That makes me feel a little better.

Sacks are overrated, but it doesn’t make NU’s shitty defense any better.
