Learn About Lou
The side of Holtz that's slightly less lovable. I'm a definite believer in observing how people treat those who can do nothing for them. Mack Brown gets a positive mention in the second half of the audio portion. Give it a listen because it really is a nice example of what's right about Mack Brown as a human being. Consider how Tyres Dickson was treated in contrast to Damian Peter.

IIRC, Holtz left three schools that subsequently went on probation… Minnesota, ND and South Carolina.

I don’t believe Minnesota was one of those to go on probation. The NCAA’s major infractions database is down right now but I can’t find anything indicating such and I’ve never heard that. Could it have been Arkansas?

Lou is a old goof ball. He should quit now and stop embarrassing himself. Just made a Hitler reference on ESPN while discussing the current Michigan coach! Something about Hitler being a great leader.
What a tool.

He was fired at Arkansas despite success. My distant memory is that Holtz got involved in somebody’s political campaign or something.
I remember the first thing he did when he took the Minnesota job. Take Texas off the schedule. We’d scheduled a home and home with the Gophers. He’d seen enough of the Longhorns and Fred Akers.

Lou has lost it, and isn’t reading his BSPN scripts. At halftime of Hawai’i v. Boise State, he claimed that the last time that UT was ranked #1 was 1986.
Perhaps he blacked out from too much whiskey on 1/4/06?

I think he was mangling the ‘last time during the regular season’ date stat they’ve been peddling.
The cut it out of the replay (wisely), but their little judgement bit with McCoy vs. Tebow had Lou just go postal at the end … I remember him screaming about ‘Who has Texas played?’ and other hard to interpret sibilances…. ththffft.
And did anyone catch his whole ‘Hitler was a Leader too…’ bit before the game tonight? Mark May’s eyes looked like he was staring into the abyss and trying to keep it together. Classic.

I listened to that earlier today. Disbelief quickly transmogrified into scorn/contempt/derision. I playfully made fun of Holtz in my McCoy/Tebow spoof, so much for that. Turns out he’s not the doddering old harmless Parkinsonian who mistakes his spectacles for the family cat, as I had him pegged. Rome was milking it, but Peter’s emotion is pretty fucking persuasive either way. His Cartesian coordinate graphs pretty close to Emperor Palpatine on the evil bastard scale if you plot it out.

Tyres Dickson. I went to high school with Tyres. He was one hell of a QB in high school, and he would have been a very good defensive back in college. I had an RTF-like class with him in high school, and he was a good kid.
I saw him at a spring game, must have been 2001 or so, and we was very excited about the Horns.
Mack did right by him.
Hook ’em!

Listening to the sounds that come out of Holtz’s mouth is like reading a Don Martin comic.

Holtz was convicted of small violations at Minnesota. Tough to nail anyone smart.

Don’t forget NC State and Arkansas – they were both on probation as well after he left. I didn’t realize South Carolina was on the list as well. Nice – the only school Lulu didn’t leave on probation was William & Mary.
If memory serves, I remember reading an article (sorry, too long ago, can’t remember who wrote it) that said basically Notre Dame’s violations under Lou were comparable to SMU & would have landed them the death penalty if they were any other school. Academic fraud, ignoring admissions standards, cash & gifts for players, free trips.
Jerry Tarkanian might have blushed.

Nebraska did put Damian on scholly and give him a job. And it was nice to hear that Mack was one of the coaches who called to check on him. Class act.

It was often conjectured that Lou moved around quite a bit because he didn’t wear very well on teams and administrations. That story gave me some insight as to why.

Here’s hoping that he is wearing on ESPN suits.
This is 2 weeks in a row that he had to apologize on air.

My uncle was a High School Football Coach in the Chicagoland area and just shakes his head about the few times he dealt with Lou Holtz – An absolute asshole who simply doesn’t give a fuck.
Present day? I cannot fucking stand the Lou Holtz/Mark May team – Lou Holtz is an idiot and Mark May is fucking millitant. They’re a recipe for absolute disaster.
And Lou’s had his share of screw-ups this year, earlier he said that Tech has always had a difficult time with Texas A&M lately…?? I think Leach is like 6-3…retarded…

How else is a short man who can barely speak intelligibly supposed to get ahead in the manly, manly world of CFB? You want another one, just look around. How about Saban for one or Miles? Hell it is probably easier and shorter to name the ones that aren’t as opposed to the ones that are.

That would mean that you are currently the head coach at an unnamed university then aren’t you steven.

Anyway, I may not give a f*ck, but I wouldn’t consider myself an assh*le, so sorry but I don’t fit the mold. And as surprising as it maybe to some, no, I am not currently a HC at a major U.
