Gary Patterson to Kansas State?
The Rivals' Kansas State site is reporting that Patterson has agreed to terms with KSU to become their next head coach.
I haven't seen it reported anywhere else yet, but that's a good hire if true.
Update: Kansas State AD is denying it.

GoPowercat.com, which must be one of their blogs or official sites is reporting it too.
I know it’s tough to leave a team in midseason, but you might do the same for 3X the money. Schools are all too willing to fire a coach in midseason. If one wants to leave in midseason it’s fair play.
It is a good hire.

This IMO, is a classic example of a competitor spending its way out of business.
If Kansas State is willing to gamble on paying this kind of money then the other lemmings (lower tier) BCS teams will feel pressure to do so as well. This is exactly the kind of move that I believe will speed up the “downsizing” of D-1 football. There are so few programs making money, and here is another program willing to to go into the red, for what?
Even if he is successful and makes them competitive — they cannot possibly stay there long-term because of the money needed to be spent on other items, such as facilities. They simply do not have the fan base to justify the expenses that will be needed.
Sooner or later we will see a 64-team BCS division, and it is moves like this that make me believe that it will be sooner.
Those are my personal thoughts, at least.

Word on the radio here in KS is that Patterson’s agent is denying talking to K-State and the report by gopowercat.com is false…… Most likely means its a done deal

Is TCU making money off their football program? What schools aren’t? Are there BCS schools losing money?

I don’t know how valid this study was, but it said that in 2006 only 67 of 119 Div 1-A schools made money on football.

I don’t even know why Gary should have to comment on it. He’s not gonna be the head coach at Kansas State.

Huck, K-State is the school that funneled… er, paid Dalonte Hill $400K, IIRC, as an assistant basketball coach.
If Patterson can win, it’s probably marginally worth it financially.

Gary Patterson was just on ESPN denying the rumors and was pretty upset that his great recruiting class were calling him about the rumors. He says he would never leave in the middle of the season, has never talked to KState, expects great teams for next two to three years. It sure didn’t sound like he was leaving anytime soon…….

God when the hapless losers at Mizzou are able to recognize the said state of afairs at KSU, its really sad. Say Phenomenal, hows that genius Pinkel doing with all that talent? Whats that? He is under-performing and still an awful coach on everything except 1st down? Darn, too bad. Atleast he will run off like the brain-child he is to Washington at years end, maybe you guys can convince Smith to come back. Anytime an observer of the complete disaster and failure that is Missouri Sports, it really hurts, even more than the snow-globe stuff.

Patterson is so good he was able to cover for Dennis Franchione at TCU. That alone makes this a more than solid hire.
