Jerry Bomar: "I Know Stuff, But I'm Not Talking"
While Rhett Bomar is in Mobile, working out for NFL personnel, his dad issues a smarmy, slimy defense of his son’s troubles at OU. Not surprisingly, Jerry Bomar says that OU threw his son under the Sooner Schooner.
When discussing his son's dismissal from OU for the Big Red Auto scandal, the elder Bomar gives a wink and a nod and says essentially he could take down the program, but he is too nice to do that.

"He and I both know that Oklahoma got off light and he didn't," Jerry Bomar said Wednesday. "He's never sold them out and he wouldn't. They're not innocent in this deal, trust me. Bob Stoops comes across as 'Mr. I Did the Right Thing' and there's stuff about Bob Stoops that if right now I told people, everybody being saying, 'What?' "But we're not gonna do that. We're not gonna go that way, and you can't win those battles anyway.
If this isn't a classic case of the "Mack Brown-Spurned Recruit Curse" then I haven't seen one.

Bomar(s) completely had the power to have altered the BCS equation this year.
If that’s not a complete indictment of the system I don’t know what is.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our recruits – we did.
But you can’t hold a whole program responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole BCS system?
And if the whole BCS system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general?
I put it to you, Jerry – isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society?
Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Boomer Sooner!"

That’s a different tune than that dickmunch was singing a couple of years ago.
Jerry Bomar said the family understood and accepted the punishment.
"There’s no ill will toward Oklahoma," Jerry Bomar said. "We feel terrible because (Rhett) jeopardized their hopes for this season. And we don’t want the university to go on probation, because they’re on the up-and-up. They’re above-board.
"They haven’t done anything wrong."

Quinn has said the same thing….basically inferring that cheating was widespread and not unknown. Hell, it was posted on Texags months before. There were 20+ Gooner players working there. 3 got caught. One of the ones who got caught was some walkon scrub. Are we supposed to believe he got paid but Rufus Alexander did not? I wish I could find a copy of the blacked out transcript of OU’s interview with Alexander. That should have been enough to get them busted on quite a few more players.
I hope Rhett spills it one day.

Bob Knight long ago in an interview in Playboy (the only article I did read in that magazine) said that if you wanted to stop this crap bring in the Feds.
IRS or DOL shows up at Big Red and they can’t provide payroll records someone is going to get nailed with a hefty fine, possible jail time, and risk of seizure of business assets.
Worked like a charm in getting that one booster to rat out Michigan’s basketball program.

Karma’s a bitch. Jerry Bomar’s been in love with the paper clips since his early days up in Grayson county, and virtually hand-delivered his quarterbacking son to medium game Bob. Stoops shoves him under the bus in the Big Red Sports Imports deal, and now, way after the fact, dad Jerry says “We know stuff, bad stuff…but we’re gonna take the high road and not tell you what we know.” What are you gonna do if any of us find out what you know…put us on double secret probation? Yeah. Right. Like the ancient knight in Indiana Jones said…“Choose wisely.” Sorry Jerry…you didn’t choose wisely. You made your bed with the okies…sleep tight.

My theory that the reason that OU sold ouT Bomar and the other two players was that they did not want to turn in the others because it might jeopardize their east texas pipeline. Back in the 1990’s Texas A&M lost their Dallas Carter/South Dallas pipeline and have not been the same since

It’s a funny situation. When Bomar was dropped by the Sooners, he had an incentive to keep quiet. He was petitioning the NCAA for a quick declaration of eligibility. If Rhett had really been receiving more illicit benefits, telling the NCAA might have killed his career going forward. He had an incentive to be quiet, especially because any more dirt on OU would certainly have led OU to revealing more dirt on Bomar.
I think the NCAA played that game, too, delaying establishing Bomar’s eligibility in hopes of squeezing more info from him.
If Bomar becomes a NFL star, expect a tell-all.

This whole story sounds a bit spiced up to me. I’d have to cross-check and double-verify Jerry Bomar’s story before I could print anything. If you were to ask me, though, I’d say the whole thing was a trumped up Texas effort to make mighty OU look bad. I mean, Texas cheats in recruiting all the time – it’s been proven time and again.

OU is on the verge of a Blake era. You cut them out of east Texas. And plunk , right back to Blake. Look folks this is not hard. You have an eastern Ohio asshole football prick. He uses all the gray area techniqes to compete: simulated snaps, whines on every call and he has to recruit east Texas to survive? Think about it. He’s toast with out his image. That is why he ran the score up on people when he could and the national media buys it???? Cut east Texas off and he is done. He actually is Machovic if you can paint him in all that Ohio bullshit that he really is. He is all hat and no cattle in my book. A playground bully that is fun to eventually kick the crap out of.Bob Stoops likable in Texas , his lifeline , think about it? It doesn’t work if he does not win titles that’s why all the pushing of buttons , cheating and lobbying. No Texas recruits -no OU. Fact.
by OUsniffsware on Jan 24, 2009 11:46 PM CST reply actions
OUsniffsware,
Boy, you might be legally retarded. OU is not on the verge of a Blake era. If you mean once Stoops leaves, that’s a very different discussion.
The big problem with that pipe dream is two fold. Problem number one is actually UT’s recruiting technique. Essentially, Mack expects anyone from Tejas to be willing to commit to UT immediately and without reservation or hesitation. Unless these kids grew up bleeding burnt orange, this attitude will piss them off. This gets amplified by Mack’s documented reactions when these kids balk at the idea that they should commit to UT because they’re from Texas.
Number two is that UT still doesn’t have enough roster room to fit all the great Tejas talent every year. How many players at the so-called 4-star and 5-star levels come out of that corridor you described every year? I’d guess about 50 or more. That’s not including the sleepers that get overlooked.
It’s also worth a mention that UT has shown a rather entertaining tendency to alienate some recruits with their implicit seniority rule. While UT fans like to mentally masturbate to the idea that OU cheated to get Adrian Peterson, the biggest problem he had with UT was that they told him he would sit behind Cedric Benson. To a kid universally hailed as the best RB talent of the last 10-15 years, that’s just not going to fly. Want more proof that this policy exists? Exhibit B: The 2007 UT starting linebackers.

OU Sniffer – you are truely a shit-for-brains. Mack is 4-6 against Stoops. OU is a national championship caliber program year in and out. Blake could recruit, but couldn’t figure out what offense he wanted to run week to week. Stoops doesn’t have that problem. Your Texas boy Bomar was a cheater and when Stoops found out he booted him. Make no mistake, Bomar is a TEXAS boy. Even ESPN says OU is the number one football program in college football. Maybe you all can hire a plane to fly a banner around Connecticut in protest.
