Since we did beat both OU and Mizzou we truly are the Big Xii Champs……….but for the sake of sportmanship and the good name of our univeristy please immediately remove that albatross from the wall!!

by Show Horn on Apr 6, 2009 12:39 AM CDT reply actions

I think the asterisk tells the story. It’s clearly a motivation tool being used by Mack to keep last year’s fistfucking top of mind at all times during game preparation.

If they were displaying this inside of DKR-TMS I would be embarrassed, but a simple locker-room display is no issue in my opinion.

by Crown & Coke on Apr 6, 2009 12:46 AM CDT reply actions

I can just hear a soundbite in which Mack tries to justify it. I am scheduling 5 cringe sessions per day to prepare myself physically for hearing it.

I hope it’s just a motivational tool and Mack doesn’t really believe that was earned.

by Don't think I like it on Apr 6, 2009 1:25 AM CDT reply actions

I refuse to look at it as it may hurt my vision.

by Roger Maris on Apr 6, 2009 4:00 AM CDT reply actions

I don’t have a problem with it. It’s pretty obvious, after the final bowl results were in, that the Big 12 picked the wrong team. Texas was the best last year.

by TaylorTRoom on Apr 6, 2009 5:50 AM CDT reply actions

I’m sure Mack knows exactly what he’s going to say about it. I would love to hear Stoops’ comments, although they likely won’t be on the record.

by TaylorTRoom on Apr 6, 2009 5:55 AM CDT reply actions

Expresses my feelings about last year perfectly. I’m cetain that all the regular hardasses on the webs will express disdain and disgust over this in their usual hyperbolic fashion, but as TTR indicated, it’s there for a reason.

And it made Tim’s vagina bleed again, so looks like a win/win to me.

by beowulf on Apr 6, 2009 6:32 AM CDT reply actions

We’re going to get hammered nationally about this. I just don’t see the point of it.

by RansomStoddard on Apr 6, 2009 6:44 AM CDT reply actions

I don’t like the * either. I prefer de facto Big XII Champions.

by Soldier of Orange on Apr 6, 2009 7:11 AM CDT reply actions

in truth, the asterisk belongs on OU’s wall…

by the Bobs on Apr 6, 2009 7:35 AM CDT reply actions

I think it’s cute.

by dedfischer on Apr 6, 2009 7:35 AM CDT reply actions

The asterisk makes good. To read the comic book of French means good for international relations, no?

by Nicolas Sarkozy on Apr 6, 2009 7:43 AM CDT reply actions

I want to get one for the Manshed.

by dedfischer on Apr 6, 2009 7:51 AM CDT reply actions

By this logic Ole Miss should put National Champions 2008* in their locker room.

They were the only team to actually beat Florida.

Utah should get one in their locker rooms also, hell by this logic I could find half a dozen teams that could put some kind of * by something.

It’s just self-serving, and narcissistic, actually fits right in with the University of Texas culture.

by Tim on Apr 6, 2009 8:11 AM CDT reply actions

I don’t see anything wrong.

by Beats Dead Horses on Apr 6, 2009 8:20 AM CDT reply actions

Agree with Crown & Coke,

If this is on a wall seen by the general public etc…that would be a different matter, but if it is in a place that the players and staff see on a daily basis to remind them of the consequences of leaving your future in the hands of others it is a great idea.

Heck, this isn’t nearly as stupid as some coaches and goodness knows how many high priced sales consultants I have been exposed to other the years.

by justaguy on Apr 6, 2009 8:26 AM CDT reply actions

I hate that we have to explain this every time discussions of this sort come up. No, a four loss team is not the national champion.

by PatronSaint on Apr 6, 2009 8:30 AM CDT reply actions

Bob Stoops doesn’t see why Texas thinks it was better than OU last year just because Texas had a better record and beat OU on a neutral field.

by TaylorTRoom on Apr 6, 2009 8:32 AM CDT reply actions

Hi. I’m Tim. I just wanted to say that I want my ass kicked, but I decided to say it in a fake intellectual … no downright girly way.

by Sam Bradford on Apr 6, 2009 8:55 AM CDT reply actions

I bet its gone when they start up fall practices, probably with some holes and crumbling drywall left in place so the players remember what was stolen from them.

by Ricky on Apr 6, 2009 9:09 AM CDT reply actions

Forgot to add…I hope the media runs with this. Let this team close ranks while the same media that stole their championship bitches about them laying claim to it. The ‘us against the world’ motivational tool can be effective.

by Ricky on Apr 6, 2009 9:12 AM CDT reply actions

This smacks of participation ribbon.

If you wanted to put this somewhere in the locker room to remind the kids what a let down will cost you, then fine. Do not put this in a public place to highlight your lone conference championship in the MB era.

Now the department has to stick by this thing or tear down the building.

by The General on Apr 6, 2009 9:19 AM CDT reply actions

Participation ribbon? The 2008 Longhorns had a better season than any other Big 12 team since 2001, save the 2005 Longhorns. They only had one loss, and beat a team that finished in the top 5 (OU), and another that finished in the top 10 (tOSU). None of the other conference champions since 2001 (again, excepting the 2005 Horns) has had such a great season. This is not participation ribbon stuff. This is more like claiming Hank Aaron should really be considered the home run champ.

by TaylorTRoom on Apr 6, 2009 9:27 AM CDT reply actions

I still have one somewhere from the 1994 season.

I agree completely with celebrating the accomplishments of a great and enjoyable football team that actually achieved beyond what most hoped (a rare occurence).

This highlights what the team did not win, and that is a Big XII championship.

The asterisk goes on Barry Bonds number 755, not on Hank Aaron’s 714, so your comparison is completely specious. If Oklahoma (or some enterprising young frat guy) were to place an asterisk on their 2008 Conference Championship banner, then that would be completely appropriate.

by The General on Apr 6, 2009 9:45 AM CDT reply actions

I think it’s funny.

If they mean it seriously, like how A&M counted it’s spring game as a victory last year, then not so much.

OU won the Big XII when we scored 60 points four times in a row. Fox sports asked for my opinion because I am a classy guy and can control my bias. Just not my drinking or cheating.

by Barry Switzer on Apr 6, 2009 2:28 PM CDT reply actions

According to Chip Brown on Orangebloods it’s coming down off the wall.

Mack Brown wants it taken down because he hurt Tim’s feelings. And the wall is one step closer to resembling Texas Tech’s wall of Big 12 Championship Seasons.

Wonder when was the last time he was in that room. It’s been there since at least February.

Geez, a tiger fan so bitter he sounds like a sooner. How did your season end up LSU forever? Oh, only third in your DIVISION, much less conference. But hey, that Chik-fil-a bowl win was prestigious, wasn’t it?
Geaux back to where you normally lurk please!

by hornbymarriage on Apr 7, 2009 4:50 PM CDT reply actions

man, it’s tough taking crap from LSU, seeing as how they’ve got scorebo… well, they’ve got academ… wait – just what the hell do they have?

If and When LSU gets screwed as badly as we did and they choose the high road you may begin to talk. Playing in an MNC game with two losses ain’t cutting it in that department. Your championship is a media creation. And you ain’t half the team we are, and you never will be. Go back to your inbred fanbase and tell them to piss up a rope. Then show them how…

LSU Forever is probably over at an OU website or a OSU website right now putting their fans in their place for not winning enough football championships. I bet he does it to fans of all the schools with more football titles than LSU, not just us.
