Longhorns Commit A Guy Named Sheldon!?
And it's not to our Honors Accounting program.
Meet 6-5 super sophomore (2011) wing Sheldon McClellan. h/t $$ Burnt Orange Beat
If you like free, here's a write-up from the Statesman.
And a clip of Sheldon playing a club team of emo boys and random buffoons:
McClellan is a long and athletic play maker from the wing position. He attacks the rim in transition where he can finish above the rim with his great length. In the half court he can score off the catch or dribble from three and he also has a strong mid range game with one or two dribble pull ups. McClellan can stop and pop while he elevates over smaller defenders.
That'll work.
If you're having trouble keeping our incredible basketball recruiting straight, here's what the next three years look like:
2009
SG Avery Bradley 6-2 175
F Jordan Hamilton 6-7 230
F Shawn Williams 6-7 210
PG Jai Lucas (transfer) 5-9 150
**G J'Covan Brown?** (In the J'Clearinghouse)
2010
SG Daniel Bejarano 6-4 200
F Tristan Thompson 6-8 230
2011
PG Myck Kabongo 6-1 170
SF Sheldon McClellan 6-5 180
We'll add a big in 2010 and several more players in 2011. Be excited - our hoops program is about to go from very good to elite.

I was an RTF major.
I think. I’ll have to check actually.

“McClellan is a long and athletic play maker . . . He attacks the rim in transition where he can finish above the rim with his great length.”
I’ve got the touch.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but with his graduation date being 2011, wouldn’t this young man currently be a sophomore? And people make fun of Mack Brown for selling his soul on Junior Day. Rick Barnes is a couple of baby steps away from appearing in person at junior high tournaments.
On a serious note, this is absolutely impressive, and it looks like UT is serious about challenging KU for long-term Big 12 basketball supremacy.

It’s encouraging to see our wing/sg recruiting moving away from almost exclusively 6’1"-6’2" guys.

Harry Burns: Shel? Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon.
Sally Albright: I did too.
Harry Burns: No you didn’t. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon’s your man… but humpin’ and pumpin’ is not Sheldon’s strong suit. It’s the name. ‘Do it to me Sheldon, you’re an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.’ Doesn’t work.

Gettin’ close there t1..
Now go drink a six pack, watch an Eastwood western and kick your poodle…

Safe to assume he’s grown since those clips? He certainly doesn’t look 6’5 there. Looks great, just not that tall.

Sorry, there weren’t any guys named Sheldon in old Westerns or Steve McQueen movies. I’ll turn in my mancard now.

CallKevin:
Sorry, I should have specified – if you look at the clip date (’07), you can see that he is in either 8th or 9th grade when this was shot.
So pretty impressive.

If they run a weave, Barnes can scream out “Serpentine, Shel!!” and it actually be a relevant instruction.

How did they get Frankenstein to officiate in that first clip?

“How did they get Frankenstein to officiate in that first clip?”
Teen Wolf wasn’t available????

Wow, very athletic; but shoots like a girl. I hope whoever is coaching him between now and college is strong on fundamentals.
by f3driver on May 5, 2009 1:49 PM CDT reply actions
His shot release is amusing, but there’s plenty of time to get it higher.
by Scipio Tex on May 5, 2009 2:31 PM CDT reply actions
Thanks for the clarification, Scipio. Makes more sense now.
by CallKevin on May 5, 2009 2:36 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah, I just noticed the April as well.
So that’s him as an eighth grader. He’s no Damon Bailey, but that’s pretty impressive.

The only ones making fun of Mack Brown’s recruiting are the one’s getting their collective asses handed to them. Same goes with Barnes.
We are a well oiled machine right now in both sports. This will be one helluva ride in football and b-ball for the next 5-6 years at least. I’m calling two final fours and 2 shitty crystal footballs bcs bullshit championships. But I will still enjoy it.

i think that could be considered “best case scenario”

You think it takes talent to play Frankenstein? That limey cocksucker can rot in hell.
by SizzleChest on May 5, 2009 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
Kid probably shoots that way because he’s just growing into his body. I’d bet you dollars to donuts that he was 5-9 a year and a half ago and this release was the only way he could get the ball to the rim. Scip’s right about being able to adjust his release. Other than that, all I can say is sick, sick, sick. Handles, coordination, quickness, size…you name it, he’s got it.

Sheldon, does not sound ,yeah, how about Mc or Mac, anyway he is Smooth as my Mr.Patron…
He needs to get stronger in the next 2 years and add 20/25 pounds but if he puts in the work he will be a monster !
His release point is good right now but will get better with 2years of shooting in his short pants needs a little work on his handle , stronger hands would help. He is good.
Say does anyone know how the NCAA ticket allotment worked in 2002-2003 season for the final four. How many bucks ?

We can only hope he’s as good as Sheldon Quarles.
