You know football season is near when the first blogpoll comes out. This first poll is based on Scipio's power poll. Take a look and let us know what you see wrong.

I just can’t see how USC can be ranked so high, especially to have them in front of OU. I hate the sooners as much as anyone but I also understand that they’re going to be a pretty good football team. They have more answers and less questions than the Trojans do. I know USC has a great number of talented football players on their team but until I see it on the field I just can imagine ranking them so high.

Look at the 12 teams ranked after the golden domers and tell me which one loses to ND on a neutral field.
That’s what I thought.

Notre Dame could play nothing but Sun Belt teams and Penn State would still have a better chance at making the BCS. 16 is too low for the fighting Paternos.

USC above OU is fine. Replacing a QB is easier than 4/5 of the starting o-line, and who on USC’s schedule has a better chance at beating them than we have of beating OU?

I’ll buy Georgia in the Top 15 simply because they have to be healthier than last season.

Every time I get a chance to get in the game, someone calls the wrong play.

With the loss of their starting RB, I don’t see Va Tech as a top 10 team. Tyrod Taylor is not going to win games with his arm, and this team will struggle to put 10 points on the board in any given game. Last year was one of Beamer’s best coaching jobs, and he will have to repeat for this team to win 9 games.

Lou Holtz on ESPN radio said ND would play Florida for the title. How he ever won a game as a coach despite his mental retardation speaks volumes for the quality of his assistant coaches.

When will the debate start? Damn media ACC bias. Riley Skinner has pretty much already been anointed Heisman winner…..
Just bowl game results show the “ranked” ACC teams going 2 for 6?
With the only wins being:
Florida St. over a 7-5 Wiconsin team that was regularly drubbed by anyone with a heartbeat in the Big 10 and some without….. Michigan, Iowa I’m looking at you…
and
V. Tech over a Cincinnati team that was crushed by OU and UConn …. yes you can read that outloud to yourself again Cincinnati lost 40-16 to UConn.
That’s a bit too much Top 25 love for a less than awe inspiring conference.

I love power polls. Unfortunately, they mean nothing in the real world.
If USC loses twice against a schedule that has trips to Columbus, South Bend, Eugene, Berkeley and Tempe, and Boise or Utah goes 12-0 (beating nobody), who do you think will be ranked higher? And how much would USC beat that 12-0 team by.

Scipio’s power pole goes from the ground floor of his condo all the way to the sky balcony.

I think the ACC is pretty well placed in the poll. Last year they were a conference that was loaded with second-level teams and no powers at the top. That’s pretty much reflected here.

Southern Miss ahead of KU amuses me, if only because people continue to bash KU’s non-con schedule. Don’t get me wrong, the N.Colo game is a joke (supposed to be) but at least Duke is a BCS school (ok, kinda) and playing at UTEP won’t be a cake walk… That being said, I still think KU gets in both polls between 20-25 (if not 17-20 or so) by the time conference games start… my 2 pesos.

I have continued to try and give the newspapers I have read for so long a chance to redeem themselves, but no longer. I guess some old habits just take a long while to get out of your system. This site (and to a lesser extent other Texas sites) have made it pointless to try and get any Texas Football related joy from them any longer. As I was reading today, an overwhelming pity for the traditional football printed media just washed over me. It was a fleeting emotion as I clicked over here to find dependable relief. What freedom I will now enjoy going forward never feeling to need to waste time with them again!
Hook ’em!
