Big Football Scheduling News
Home and homes have been added with Cal and Minnesota in 2015, 2016.
Cal represents an important recruiting possibility (we should be looking West, not East) and is certainly a media and fan friendly BIG NATIONAL GAME prospect.
Great roadtrip too.
I'm more ambivalent about Minnesota, but it's a team with an identifiable name and an identifiable conference. Tim Brewster is back!
Quality, aggressive scheduling. Further proof that Mack Brown is retiring soon.
Nicely done, Bellmont.

Finally a road game I know I’m going to. Texas football in the Bay Area.

I hope those human tree monkeys are there like they were for the Tennessee game a couple years ago. What a lovely sight they were.
I heard Blondies Pizza on Telegraph closed. As someone born in the bay, I was dismayed to find that out.
If, and I mean IF, Tim Brewster is still coaching the Gophers when these come around, these games will benefit him more than us.

I’m pretty psyched.
I’d like to go to Minny as well. Minneapolis in September does not suck and their new stadium is said to be primo.

“Quality, aggressive scheduling. Further proof that Mack Brown is retiring soon.”
You lost me. This doesn’t seem all that different from our past and future OOC scheduling. It’s Minnesota and Cal — I’m sure they’ll both suck the years we play them.

Of course he’ll benefit. But not at our expense. More at Tech, TCU and OSU’s.

That’s a good point, but he’s gotten some four stars out of here. Lipscomb, (who I don’t think qualified) and Keanon Cooper, who, to make your point, he stole from Tech.
This is great, as I still have family and friends in the Bay, and my old man is a big Cal fan. I suggest for any who make it to the game, take the drive to Tahoe. Lake Tahoe, like Bucee’s in Luling, is Grown Man Disneyland.

Hahaha! Well I’d appreciate if you connected the dots for me. If possible, I’d prefer pictures and bright colors.

Alright, more serious reply:
Minnesota – even if they’re 5-7 – is a game of some national and intense regional interest. It’ll be a big deal to the Big 10 audience. Additionally, it’s far more attractive than some directional Louisiana school and has SOS benefits. It’d also be a fun roady in its own right.
Cal represents a big recruiting opportunity for the new regime and you have no basis in your assumption that they’ll be anything but a top 20 team. The Cal program is far past flash-in-the-pan status. It’s also a great roadtrip, for reasons that I’m sure are obvious to you. It’s also a big national showcase game – not quite Ohio St ’05 – but sure as hell the OOC game that everyone will be watching that Saturday.

This is absolutely great news. Cal has been a quality team for several years now under Tedford. Not to mention that fan base hates Texas and Mack Brown a ton. I’d surmise Mack to be gone by then, but they will still think they have a bone to pick with us over the 2005 Rose Bowl bid we nabbed. I hope we stomp them and then have the team carry Mack Brown to center field on a mobile throne wearing a laurel crown, and of course the throne will be adorned in roses. From there he’ll turn over, drop a duece on their field and say “2005, hippies!”

The locals are very proud of their new outdoor stadium that seats 50,000. Now they feel they are truly in the big time. I just chuckle.

Whither Frank Erwin?

You bring up good points. I’d think the new regime would have ~2-3 seasons under its belt before 2015.
Cal’s recent records by year:
2000… 3-8
2001… 1-10
2002… 7-5
2003… 8-6
2004… 10-2
2005… 8-4
2006… 10-3
2007… 7-6
2008… 9-4
…Given the faith you have in Cal, I take it you like their current coaching staff and program. You don’t have to go back very many years to find disastrous seasons.

Not sure if it was mentioned in another thread, but aggy just signed up for a similar home and home with USC and Oregon beginning in 2015.
I read somewhere (random comment) that USC had approached Texas and was rebuked. I cannot find any proof of this on the intertoobs. Anyone know what that’s about?

I measure most of Mizzou’s non-con scheduling by whether it creates a good road trip for me. Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, I am not able to make Reno this year, which when announced had me thrilled. The Tigers were supposed to make a Laramie trip either next year or the year after, which had me intrigued. I haven’t heard much good about Laramie, but I’ve never been. That trip got set back several years. The Tigers recently announced trips to Indiana and Miami (Ohio). Not terribly thrilled.
Minnesota would be fun. That’s a great city. Cal would be awesome. Good for UT.

Henry James,
Might as well. The Longhorn fans that make the trip to Berkley won’t face nearly as much culture shock as when the people of the dirt trip out to the land of earthquakes.
Can you imagine USC fans looking for something to do in Bryan/College Station? “Gattis, OMG WTF!” They won’t be able to get of there fast enough. Meanwhile, Aggie fan is going to be saving and making a weeklong trip to explore all the traffic and smog that typifies Los. The two fan bases couldn’t be more different.

Glad to see Minnesota finally got their stadium. They’ve needed that for oh, only a couple of decades.

GAH! UCLA next year? I’m already sick of hearing the story that the insipid sports press has yet to begin repeating.

Scipio, I’m thoroughly evenly keeled on this announcement.
They’re BCS home and homes, no doubt. I know I’d love to go to Cal, and as noted, Minnesota in September is nice. But OTOH, it’s not Miami, USC, Penn State-Michigan-Notre Dame, or the Upper Half of the SEC. The other thing that it’s not is Central Florida, Wyoming, UTEP.
So, like I say, evenly keeled. Good news, but not great news.

Nice attempt at a slam, but I went to Seattle, Eugene (by way of Portland) and the Bay Area (Sweet 16). Met up with a bunch of friends and we all had a great time. Would go again to either of those places in a heartbeat.
Congrats on scheduling Cal, too. That’ll be a fun trip. Ripley and Scipio will ro-cham-po for who gets (has) to host the tailgate.

Just walked by Chris Fowler at the GameDay stage behind the fountain.
He was trying to look very concerned about something, but the cut-offs he was wearing detracted a bit from the effort.

Ponderos,
That was directed towards Aggieland. You’re OU, no? I know when I say “dirt” your first inclination is to take offense, but this concerns Aggies hitching their wagons and heading west to play the Trojans.
Also, all those areas are spectacular and worthy of peoples tourist dollars. I lived in Seattle for a year. Great town, great food. Only problem is the women seem to wear wool panties and must be plyed with much wine.

Seattle’s awesome, magnus. Hope to take a short business trip up there soon, will be sure to pack my rubbers.

Perhaps I could attend the A&M game with my cousin from SC in B/CS. Translating the yocal customs would be fun.

Odds on Brewster being at Minnesota in six years: 25-1
Bet they signed off on the Cal series when they were certain Tedford would be gone for 2-3 seasons.
Oh well, it beats Sam Houston State and Central Florida Atlantic Tech.

It is wishcasting on the recruiting front for California, nothing more. I do understand the desire.
I think both series sound great.

Good for you. I mean it. I went to Berkeley when Boomer played there in ’97. From the upper rows on the east side of the stadium, where the visitors are placed you can see straight across the Bay to the skyline of The City. Greatness.
The non-con road game road trip is a shit ton of fun.
As I write this post, I’m sitting in the Greenbrier Resort in WVA with Nebraska clients and getting on a van to Blacksburg in 20 minutes. As soon as I overcome the snootful of Glenmorangie from the night it’s Miller Lite’s all day!!!
You’ll smoke Taco Tech tonight.
