A quality QB with viable receivers doesn’t hurt either.

I have a signed framed Benson jersey in my office that at one point co-workers had decorated with all of his mugshots. I left them up there, shared in the joke. What else could you do?

Clients would look at it and an awkward silence would fill the room.

Well not anymore big boy.

Benson got a bad deal in Chicago but certainly didn’t help himself by holding out and distancing himself from his team with a sullen demeanor and lazy work ethic. He created most of his own problems, much like the author of this post.

How many guys have revived their careers in Cincinnatti?

It’s a nice redemption. He’s in great shape and busting his ass for the team. The defense is vastly improved but without Ced, they’re probably 2-3 instead of 4-1.

He’s no Derek Farmer

The Mike Zimmer story was pretty moving last week. Cowboys should have done more to keep him.

The holdout was fine. Urlacher was a dumbfuck about that.

You mean Adrian Deterson isn’t beating him by 50 yards per game?

This is just the prologue: the Vince Young revival begins next year.

Maybe a change of scenery will be good for Limas.

Maybe a little mace to the face would be good for Limas

“How many guys have revived their careers in Cincinnati?”

Does Peter Frampton appearing on “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” and a Geico commercial count?

Have you seen the show It’s Always Cloudy In Cincinnatti?

Does a change of scenery for Limas include a hand transplant?

"How many guys have revived their careers in Cincinnati?"

Dr. Johnny Fever did. He was doing a garden show in Amarillo after saying “booger” on the air in his previous gig. Andy Travis recruited him to WKRP, along with Venus Flytrap, when they switched formats.

Don’t forget Quan Cosby, he’s doing pretty darn well as a punt returner for the Bengals, after going undrafted.

My first year doing fantasy football and my weak-ass strategy of picking as many standout or mediocre ‘Horns as possible hit its biggest paydirt with Benson. I was made fun of for the first week after drafting, but I’m the one laughing now (albeit I’m still laughing in last place).

“Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP.

Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile. "

Man I loved that show and the reruns while growing up.

I’m in a fantasy league that has only myself and another Longhorn fan. The rest of the league are Sooners. I got the first pick in the draft and bypassed Adrian Peterson, partly to watch the reaction. The whole group went into absolute shock, except for the second pick guy, who beamed at his good fortune.

They assumed that my auto-draft order had malfunctioned, but I baited them a bit saying that Peterson wasn’t going to be head and shoulders above the other top 5 RB’s, he had a history of injuries, Favre would steal his mojo, etc. No one thought Matt Forte and Ronnie Brown were bad selections, but when I picked up Cedric Benson in an early round, the group called “homer” and assumed that I’d learn my lesson getting stomped by Peterson in a matchup.

Cedric was my 3rd RB taken, but I had a feeling he would do pretty well. As it stands, I’ve now got the NFL leading rusher in Cedric, #5 in Ronnie Brown, and #19 in Forte. I didn’t have any master plan in place, but it’s been fun watching the rest of the league grumble while Cedric has completely covered for my smack talk.

“Hey, if everybody’s out to get you, then paranoia’s just good thinkin’”

Dr. Johnny Fever, responding to a claim by Venus (I think) that he was getting paranoid.

Stop it, please, all of you, just stop it. This long-suffering ex-Bengals fan cannot take it.
I stuck with them through two Super Bowl losses to the 49ers.
I stuck with them through a decade or more of being the worst. team. in. professional. sports.
I stuck with them while Marvin Lewis and Carson Palmer struggled to realize their promises.
And then came the arrests. The drug suspensions. The general thuggery. And I finally swore off them two seasons ago, threw away my (gawd-awful) striped gear, and moved on. Hey, there were always the Reds, right? At least they lost through mere incompetence, nothing to be ashamed of (it worked for the Cubs, after all). And I was content to leave it at that and focus all my football efforts on my beloved Horns.
Then they pick up Ced last season. And he looks good again.
And they ink Quan to a deal.
And now, as the Bengals’ bandwagon chugs past me with orange-and-black-striped sirens calling to me, I actually find myself … angry. And confused. Like when I dumped my cutish-but-prude girlfriend only to see her 6 months later on Halloween, slutted up and mugging down with another hot chick on 6th Street.
So just stop it already. I can’t handle success by the Bengals AND worry about whether our running woes will cost us the OU game. Have mercy.

by cincinnatus on Oct 14, 2009 9:44 PM CDT reply actions

I too, picked up Benson as my 3rd RB. I was ridiculed.. “Oh, there it is…”

Good for him. I am rooting for the Bengals this season – I loke Marvin Lewis, Ced, Quan, and Palmer is a pretty funny dude. And Ochocinco actually makes me laugh. He may be a diva but he’s not a bad guy.

by Pancho Claus on Oct 16, 2009 3:26 PM CDT reply actions

I wonder if Vince Young’s career could be revived with a change in scenery? No doubt Cedric Benson’s hitting rock bottom and being out of the NFL have shaped a new attitude, too.
