Christian Scott eligible for bowl game?

He’s already used his redshirt, so nothing to lose by playing him.

This seems like the ultimate Mack-Brown-holding-things-back plan!

Apparently, he got with the academic program .

Well Al, our players certainly don’t receive any planning assistance from those tasked with doing so, so it’s nice that he’s realized that the onus is on him.
 
Apparently an Xcel spreadsheet with each player’s progress towards degree with flags and counseling for those at risk is technology incomprehensible to Brian Davis.

My guess would be that once he completes this semester, he will have made sufficient progress.

He was with the program before. It was a Davis by another name that wasn’t.

Agree with fromwest………… Not that I know a damn thing about a damn thing, but I’d expect to see him nearly exclusively on special teams. Fresh, fast legs on K.O. coverage with plenty of pent-up aggression! MAYBE a dime pkg if he’s considerably better than who we’ve been workin’. It takes a pretty big talent advantage to overcome that big of a gap in game-speed experience, communication, and cohesion in the secondary.

I was thinking about special teams too. Fairly streamlined assignments there.
 
I don’t know if the coaches would feel comfortable giving him too many snaps on D in a national title game given his absence all year.

I think Will wanted the best 3 LB on the field and Earnest won the #4 spot..Tariq got plenty of looks at that time but did not show to be better than any of the top 4.

From what I read on here and other sites, Scott is a much better run support safety than Gideon. Against either of our most likely opponents, I suspect he would play in situations where Flori/Bama would be likely to run. Given the relatively anemic passing game of both, the risk in the passing game is somewhat marginalized if they pass, partucularly with Earl “Eraser” Thomas playing alongside him.

The biggest downside I see is that our guys would all be running around in circles before the play without Blake out there to line them up, right?

Very unlikely that Scott would be ready to see his first live game action against Florida or Alabama. Special teams perhaps.

this is just a friendly reminder that we still have 3/4 games left in this season. and, although the Southeaster Conference (and its crooked refs) are insuring that at least one of its teams makes it the MNC, Texas does not seem to have that luxury. It’s hard not too look ahead; however, we still have 3/4 teams in front of us that all will likely be playing for bowl eligibility. Not to mention, we have to go to that inbreeding hellhole that is College Station and play against a desperate coach and team that would love to justify their non-existence against TU (a la 2007).

I am proud of the way our team has taken care of business each and every week while we watch Alabama and Florida screw around with Tennessee and Vandy. There is definitely something great about feeling like the fans are on the same page as the team.

No doubt we are near the finish line; however, the more we appreciate each any every game, the more will appreciate the rarity of a MNC.

I don’t mean to sound like everyone’s judgemental Mom, but I figured I would attempt to keep things in perspective.

Gideon is not the weakest link in our db chain. Chykie amazingly might get that designation.

And Beasley was the least favored of the 3 guys on the academics outs to begin the season, but he certainly has come on big. We’re a better defense with him playing, and none of us were excited about him coming back.

Is it just me or it seems that for a few plays in every game, our defense appears quite disorganized before the snap? Many times I find myself yelling for them to line up as the offense is about to snap the ball. But they somehow end up doing a bang up job, with some wide receivers dropping balls to help out.

 I agree he is playing better, but the plays he has made have all been within 10 yards of his original location. His range, and his tackling would be reasons why I would wanna see Scott. Teams have been going at him quit a bit lately. Fortunately for us, we haven’t seen the most athletic receivers yet.

giden has improved, in catching the ball. he still has no range but that hasn’t been a problem, yet.

Nobody’s bashing anybody, Newy. This site is as much of an attraction for its humor as for its analysis—-at least that’s the way I view it. Gideon, like every player on our D, gets better every game. The comment was a reference to earlier posts on other boards essentially espousing that only he and he alone is capable of lining up our defense.

As far as the Beasley thing, I don’t disagree that he is the weakest of our DB’s, but he is a cornerback and a blow-out patch until AW gets well. Scott is a safety, and there is a difference, especially when it comes to the amount of responsibility they have for run support relative to cornerbacks, who play pass first.

Chykie isn’t as good a cornerback as Aaron or Curtis, and he gets a lot more balls thrown his way as a result. That doesn’t necessarily make him the weakest link in the chain, just the lesser of three evils for an OC to ponder.

Aerohorn, I’ll assume you are being sarcastic. If not, get help—-quickly.

A lot and more depends on how he’s done in practice, but I would think he would be fine to play heavy snaps against Alabama. Florida can actually throw the ball. Not well, but it does actually go up into the air and come down near where it supposed to be.

Also, everyone will be out of “game speed shape” for over one month thanks to the absurdity that is bowl scheduling and the BCS. Scott will have a chance to play.

Actually, that’s not true. Alabama does not pass very much, ranked 76th. Florida is worse, ranked at 82nd.
