Run, Ricky, Run
In case you missed the NFL Network game last night, Ricky Williams had a terrific performance in leading the Miami Dolphins over the Carolina Panthers with three TD's including this game clinching 46 yarder.
All and all, not a bad night for little Earl. 15 carries for 121 yards. Two rushing TD's and 1 reception for a TD. Run, Ricky, run.

Yep, I got to see two of his three TDs while swapping back and forth between the CU/OSU classic. When he broke the 46 yarder I screamed like I used to at DKR.

game “clenching” 46 yarder.
Isn’t that something you and HenryJames do when you get together?

It’s time to put Ricky into the Longhorn Hall of Honor
by srr50 on Nov 20, 2009 9:27 AM CST reply actions
He’s still got that great body lean he always had. You just can not teach that.
by BatesHorn on Nov 20, 2009 9:33 AM CST reply actions
Trips, you illustrate the perils of tracking statistics using only your fingers and toes.
Ricky had 22 carrier for 119 yards.
During his clenching run, was he clenching his teeth or his hands?
by Scipio Tex on Nov 20, 2009 9:37 AM CST reply actions
And were his 22 carrier aircraft or pigeon?
by Bobby Jack Akina on Nov 20, 2009 9:41 AM CST reply actions
The fantasy team is happy with that start.
He’s still got it but how long will that last with him being the feature back at age 32?
by busy at work on Nov 20, 2009 9:47 AM CST reply actions
Keep in mind the only hits he took for several years were of the Cypress Hill variety.

“Child, please”
- Ricky to the DB trying to tackle him up high at the end of his run.

Remind anyone of his run against A&M to set the NCAA yardage record?

Speaking of ex Longhorns did anyone see the Bengals kickoff return for a TD against the Steelers last weekend? Check out #12 for the Bengals. Great block to spring the runner, then makes a mad dash (showing some serious wheels) to block two more Steelers, including a crushing block after racing 80 yards downfield.
Fear the Quan!!

Season tix have always been in the blue hair section at DKR, thanks to the GrandFolk. Just within shouting range from the handicap section. To this day when I see or hear of RW, I have flashbacks to the cowbell wheelchair lady “Get the Ball to RICKaaaY!!!!! Get the Ballllll to RICKaaaaaYYYYY!!!”. This was yelled as the team would break the huddle…every down. and followed with that damn cowbell.

My favorite football clip ever is Quan’s hit on Lendy Holmes in the OU game. I can watch that over and over and over.
by AZHorn on Nov 20, 2009 11:42 AM CST reply actions
This is worth watching. #11 for the Steelers gets “Quaned” twice.

Incredibly satisfying to see how Ricky has not only righted the direction of his career, but performing at a very high level. Makes one wonder what could have been had his immense physical talents been allowed to flourish sans mental hindrance.

He made a near TD catch on a wheel route that was awesome but couldn’t quite get the second foot down.
His complete lack of histrionics is so refreshing. Gets in, tosses the ball to the ref, heads back to the bench.
The other thing I noticed is he flat out punishes guys. Tackling Ricky can’t be much fun.

If ricky hadn’t gone off to smoke pot (and the broken bone didn’t help either), I think people would be saying things like “Adrian/CJ looks like he might be the next Ricky.” The guy had over 6000 yards after 5 season even after missing 10 games his first 2 years! He would be the future HoF gold standard to compare running backs too.
Is he definitely calling it quits after this? Since Brown is out with an injury and Ricky is now starting, maybe he’ll get 20-25 carries a game. Hopefully Miami will say “Holly shit! He can run!” and Ricky will realize that he has missed being the feature back.

Damn, it’s nice to be a Longhorn. Quan’s blocks were more impressive than the run back.
by uthookem on Nov 20, 2009 1:33 PM CST reply actions
Ricky has said he plans to play one more year after this one.

Any chance at the Hall of Fame? What kind of numbers does a RB have to accumulate to get in?

That Quan clip was a thing of beauty. What a badass! Loved how he peeled off at the last second to nail #11 a second time.
by MidTexHorn on Nov 20, 2009 2:24 PM CST reply actions
I doubt he makes the HOF, but he is less than 1,000 yards from passing Earl Campbell on the career rushing list.
by HenryJames on Nov 20, 2009 2:57 PM CST reply actions
You won’t find a better pass protecting running back anywhere in the league. Shades of roll left.

Ricky’s career stats:
http://www.nfl.com/players/rickywilliams/profile?id=WIL271115
If he comes back another couple of years, he could have a shot at the HOF. He’ll surpass 15,000 total yards from scrimmage with two decent years. (He’s at 12.7k now). 66 TDs, Not sure how that compares but he may make the pro-bowl this year with Brown out. Two more real good years could get him to 100 TDs, which I think gets him in on that alone.
The last 3 guys in were
Thurman Thomas, 16.5k yards, 88 TDs
Barry Sanders, – 18K yards, 109 TDs
and Marcus Allen – 17.5k yards, 144 TDs, but in more way seasons.
So 15+k yards plus 100 TDs gets you in the mix. Very comparable to Clinton Portis, who many consider a marginal HOFer at this point. Edge’s career is over at 15.5 and 91.
Marshall Faulk has about 18k/136 tds
Jerome Bettis about 15k/94 tds
I think both of those guys make it.

If he finishes with more yards and touchdowns than Edgerrin James, I’ll be very, very pleased.
Very pleased.

In an article on his new contract earlier this year, Parcells made sure it was known that Williams is a “Parcells guy”, i.e. a player that Parcells trusts to play the way he wants.
by TaylorTRoom on Nov 20, 2009 4:06 PM CST reply actions
After years 3-5, I thought there was no way he wouldn’t average close to 1300 a season. If his body had held up, I think he’d be knocking on 20k yards by the time he retired.
by UT_BKC on Nov 20, 2009 4:31 PM CST reply actions
I think knowing Parcells has his back is huge for Ricky.
“It’s time to put Ricky into the Longhorn Hall of Honor”
I could not agree more.

Well hell yeah he needs to be in the Hall of Honor. He’s been gone 11 years now. James Brown went in today and he left one year before Ricky.

Yes. I could hear Musberger saying “Hello record book!” on that run.
by Hookah Horns on Nov 21, 2009 1:41 AM CST reply actions
If you watch that run and dump bourbon on your head, then it will really remind you of Ricky’s run against the Agriculturals.
