McCoy wins the Unitas
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award goes to the top senior quarterback.
Tim Tebow is also a senior quarterback.
Tim Tebow did not win.
This will not end well.

The “Johnny” Unitas Award?
Or the lesser known senior-QB “L’Chaim” Unitas Award, which is given to the Best Senior Quarterback Who Isn’t Quite So Christian as the Other Guy?

I guess we’ll find out whether Tebus is the benovelent new testament deity he claims to be or whether he carries a little old testament fire with him. Look out for locusts.

Ignoring the Tebow stuff and just looking at the accomplishment, this is an awesome achievement for McCoy and good work on the recognition by the selection committee. McCoy’s body of work is outstanding.

CTJ – agreed. Well deserved for McCoy.
I also wondered if it bode anything for the Heisman race. Can’t tell — here are the Unitas winners since 2000; there are a few Heisman winners on it, but offhand I’m not seeing much in the way of correlation:
Chris Redman Louisville
Chris Weinke Florida State
David Carr Fresno State
Carson Palmer USC
Eli Manning Ole Miss
Jason White Oklahoma
Matt Leinart USC
Brady Quinn Notre Dame
Matt Ryan Boston College
Graham Harrell Texas Tech

If you rearrange Unitas it spells:
I Satun
Holy crap. I’m calling Dan Brown.

From the SEC blogger on ESPN: Colt also owns Tebow on 3rd downs and red zone offense:

I tend to dismiss the performance of quarterbacks who I haven’t seen combatively screech and howl while covered in garnet turf paint.

I used to think Tebow was an okay fellow, and that I really just disliked how the media treated him. However, after this season, he has proven to be a genuine douche bag.

Between Colt and Tebow there exists enough Jesus love to slay Mammon.

Well-deserved by Colt and hopefully only the first of many big awards that will come his way in the next month. Here’s hoping it’ll all be topped off by the MVP award from the national championship game.
