Open thread: Vince vs Ricky
The cool kids in the Austin area get to see this game instead of, oh I don't know, the Texans vs Rams. But don't fear. Our Texans correspondent CloseToJumping will be providing us with live updates.
In the meantime you can enjoy watching the two best players to come out of Texas since Earl Campbell.

Vince throws a pick on a ball that was tipped by three different players, but he shouldn’t have thrown it.

Miami turns it into a field goal.
I wonder if Chad Henne and Matt Leinert are friends?

I’m starting Vince and Ricky on my playoff ffl team, I need a shootout.

Vince scrambles for a first on 3rd and 6.
Vince hits Justin Gage for a td on 3rd and 5. Beautiful pass.
Dan Fouts is very complimentary of Vince describing it as a ‘fantastic throw.’

Thanks for the updates HJ, not in my market and I don’t feel like streaming it.

Ricky is 4-10 thus far.
So who wins the NFL comeback player of the year? Ricky or Cedric?
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 12:22 PM CST reply actions
Miami punt. Titans take over at their own 24.
Anyone have the Texans score? Ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha!
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 12:26 PM CST reply actions
Fouts’ beard looks line ’70s porn vagina.
Vince spins away from a sack and throws it away. Mature play.
Incomplete pass on 3rd and 12 so Tennessee punts.

Ricky makes a 15 yd run and now has 1,000 on the year. One of seven guys in NFL history to do it after the age of 32.
Dude can still ball.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions
And then he fumbles it out of the Wildcat, and Michael Griffin recovers.

Does it bother anyone else that so many Texas players have to go through personal crises related to immaturity before they can become great in the league?
by ChrisApplewhite on Dec 20, 2009 12:39 PM CST reply actions
Phil Dawson just kicked a FG in a game against Jamaal Charles (whom i’m also starting).

Miami gets first and goal. Ricky has carries for 8 and 5 tds on the drive.
They took him out after they got inside the ten, and Miami settles for a field goal.
10-6 Titans.

Great coaching. Get inside the 10 and take your best player out.

Titans catch Miami in a blitz, and a screen to Chris Johnson picks up 41 yds on 3rd and 5. Two minute warning.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 1:05 PM CST reply actions
Vince makes another great throw to Gage for the touchdown. Thrown where only Gage could make the catch.
Under review.
That’s the greatness of Vince. He makes everyone around him a better player.

Jeff Fisher just pressed his head to Vince Young’s bossom. Jeff looked like a child telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas.

Chris – no, it doesn’t bother me, or even really surprise me. Consider:
1. More than a few guys, from TJ Ford to Roy Williams, have said that they didn’t want to leave Texas. The Nashvilles, Miamis, etc., of the world must be a real jolt from being The Man in Austin TX.
2. The corollary to that is that you have much farther to fall from a Texas Pedestal than from those at many (though not “all”) other schools. To go from the adulation we pour upon our star performers, to the cold and unloving arms of dissatisfied fans of pro teams, must be a terribly difficult adjustment.

Henne throws a pick with 32 seconds left at the Titans 32. Tennessee is content to run it out.

And…we’re back.
Miami punts on their first series.
Vince converts a 3rd and 6 with a 17 yd run, and now converts a 3rd and 10 with a 32 yd td pass to Nate Washington.
24-6.

HenryJames learned to game track from Aborigines.
by Vasherized on Dec 20, 2009 1:47 PM CST reply actions
Miami punts again. Titans take over at their own 20.
Jamaal Charles has gone over 100 yds again. Vasherized says we should have started Chris Ogbonnaya instead in 2007.
Chris Johnson fumbles, and Miami recovers on the 34.
Field goal makes it 24-9.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 1:55 PM CST reply actions
Vince Gill is in the booth.
Chris Johnson has gone over 100 yds for the ninth straight game.

Ricky scores a 1 yd td, and it’s now 24-16 with 7:41 left.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 2:28 PM CST reply actions
Vince/Ricky/Jamaal have been good for 52 points so far, even with a pick and a fumble. Not a bad day.
by TOR on Dec 20, 2009 2:43 PM CST reply actions
Miami scores to make it 24-22. Ricky scores the two point conversion to tie it with 1:34 left.
Titans start at their 33 with all three timeouts left.

I wonder how good Vince Young could be if he had a receiver worth a shit.
by Trips Right on Dec 20, 2009 2:55 PM CST reply actions
1st down Vince one hops a throw
2nd down Nate Washington can’t hold on to a first down
3rd down Scaife makes a seved yard catch
Miami gets the ball on their own 2 with 56 seconds left.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 2:57 PM CST reply actions
Both teams looking for overtime. I think Tennessee should be using their timeouts at this point.
by Puedlfor on Dec 20, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions
Jeff Fisher sits on all three timeouts. Overtime.
by HenryJames on Dec 20, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions
The camera work on this MIA/TEN game is awful, but I am glad cbs is showing the OT in Houston.

by Puedlfor on Dec 20, 2009 3:07 PM CST reply actions
Three straight handoffs lose a yard.
Bironas wins it with a 46 yarder.
Titans are now 7-1 since Vince was made the starter.

From 0-6 to 7-7…not bad for a kid that can’t pass, can’t hang in the pocket, and will never be able to run in the NFL.
Hook ’em!

Suck it Merril Hoge, you douchebag. Vince rules!
by burnt orange outrage on Dec 21, 2009 12:15 AM CST reply actions
The end of that game reinforced what an awful gameday coach Jeff Fisher is. Not using any timeouts on the last possession of regulation and then the mindnumbingly conservative runs before the final field goal. Ugh.
