Texas Tech Game Moved Up to 9/18/10

The official website has posted a revised 2010 football schedule that follows through on Tech's previous statement regarding the game's move to September.

Click here for the future schedules page.

Star-divide

We're still playing UCLA. I'm putting Mack on notice that anything less than 67-3 is unacceptable.

Also, I like this scheduling move and hope it continues, whether it's with Tech or someone different. Moving decent conference matchups into the traditional non-conference period gives the conference more weekends with attractive games when it comes to negotiating TV contracts.

Agree that moving these up really make our home schedule more fun. It sucks to have 3 home games in Sept, all against crappy Non-Con teams. That being said, any attempt to affect TV contract negotiations with these conf games move to early in the season most likely will have to include Texas as one of the teams. No other team, with exception of OU can move the needle for TV ratings with a conf game. And, not sure who that opponent would be for OU that would make it so? Maybe NU or possibly Tech, but not much else.

To sum up…this conf sucks, and Texas doesn’t get nearly as much out of it, as we put into it.

If Mack doesn’t deliver 77 vs. UCLA I will be penning Sally Brown a scathing e-mail.

Nice to see the bye before we head to Lincoln. I’ll mellow out by then but that game scares me more than OU next season.

Fail, everyone knows Clipper only sends faxes.

Am I crazy, I can’t see a loss on next years schedule? To me, there’s not a single “oh shit” game.

OU doesn’t scare me on defense, and I don’t see their offense playing any better against our D next year than they did this year. NU doesn’t scare me on offense at all. Maybe if the weather is as crappy as it was a couple of years ago we could struggle. Tech? Pfft please. The entire North sucks. Agnes could be our toughest match-up.

I think OU/A&M is an option for a moveup game. And it doesn’t have to be a marquee matchup to improve on the usual early season snoozefests. I think even something like Nebraska/Kansas could increase interest in the early season slate.

All 4 weekends in September could have a conference game eventually. Texas/TT, OU/A&M, Neb/Kan, Mizzou/KSU. Not all have the same interest, of course, but it’s something to consider.

Where’s my Clipper Cooper National Championship preview? I want to hear tales of Clipper hob-nobbing with the O.C. nouveau riche!

A Cooper wouldn’t be caught dead with new money. Coops at Santa Anita as we speak. Not to gamble, but to purchase.

In other news, the Alamo bowl just announced The 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl ranks as the No. 1 most-watched college bowl game in ESPN history, according to a release from valeroalamobowl.com

by Tim on Jan 5, 2010 3:21 PM CST reply actions

Is the highest rated ESPN bowl game higher than the lowest rated BCS bowl game? Doubtful.

by magnusbleuveigner on Jan 5, 2010 3:30 PM CST reply actions

No, all the BCS games and the Capital One Bowl were/will be higher rated.

But Tech should be congratulated. And all they had to was suspend and then fire their coach less than a week before the game.

by HenryJames on Jan 5, 2010 3:34 PM CST reply actions

The high rating was obviously due to Michigan State’s involvement. How highly rated were other Texas Tech bowl games that weren’t against the Spartans?

by Huckleberry on Jan 5, 2010 3:35 PM CST reply actions

@tim

yeah, but for the same reason why people stop traffic to look at car wrecks.

that broadcast did more damage to tech’s national image than when valtrex announced they’d moved their headquarters to the llano estacado.

Our opponents next season went 6-2 in bowl games this year thanks to Okie Lite and Aggie fucking up.

8:00 on a Saturday night with nothing else on. Not surprised lots of people watched.

The ladies were tuning in to see Ruffin strut it on the sidelines.

Yep the Tech-MSU game is the most watched bowl game in ESPN history. The 5.6 rating translated into 5,553,630 households, just ahead of the Texas-Iowa game which had a 6.0 rating that translated into 5,521,000 households.

They only showed him from the waist up like Elvis.

On the one hand, it’ll be nice to get Gilbert and a young O a true road test before Dallas. On the other, 4 straight weeks of football right before OU (including the two hardest last in Tech and UCLA) isn’t ideal.

Losing to OU (knock on Connor Wood) would be absolutely devastating. There would be an extra week to stew, and the team would have to prep for a possible 5-0 Nebraska team (sked: WKU, Idaho, @ Jake Locker, DII, @K-State, Bye).

As magnus points out, the rest of the schedule looks cupcakey, with only A&M as a possible ranked opponent. Then again, we thought this year’s schedule was going to be “Big XII” challenging.

Doesn’t look like there will be a PPV game either, unless Texas is (again, Connor Wood) like 6-4 when they play FAU.

Whatever, let’s instead just go win our first game of 2010 in two days.

Is Tech pussing out of the TCU game next year? If so, this isn’t so great for the TV package…sure, Texas/TT makes for a better game in September, but TT/TCU would have been a decent game, and now the November schedule loses a little luster.

by TaylorTRoom on Jan 5, 2010 4:48 PM CST reply actions

A month ago this moved seemed to favor Tech, with Texas breaking in a new QB and 3 new starters each on the OL and DL. Now with the coaching change at Tech, the early game seems to favor Texas again.

by Horncasting on Jan 5, 2010 4:49 PM CST reply actions

Horncasting—

After watching or o-line the last few weeks, I can’t help but think that breaking in three new starts is another positive for us.

by Cricketslayer on Jan 5, 2010 5:09 PM CST reply actions

Iowa can run the ball against a stacked front 8 times in a row with an occasional pass. I know nothing about GT’s defense, but Iowa is running a tiny white dude (Wegher) at the entire DL and LB crew and averaging close to 9ypc.

Fuck GD.

by mike on Jan 5, 2010 10:28 PM CST reply actions

Hmmmm….well after some research on Wegher (just sounds a little bit like “Wigger”), he’s a pretty decent RB and was a ‘sought after’ recruit (in that part of the country anyway).

Still, I’d wager that we’ve had easily his level of talent in our backfield and have been able to produce exactly jack shit.

by mike on Jan 5, 2010 10:41 PM CST reply actions

Not to excuse our offensive philosophy/execution, but GaTech is a pretty middling defense. Their offense keeps as many points off the board as their D. Maybe more.

by CrazyJoeDavola on Jan 6, 2010 1:54 AM CST reply actions

Kirk Ferentz is a slightly better OL coach than what we got
