Hmm…looks like all they’ve updated are the teams and rankings. Records, previous, etc. are still from last week based on that ranking spot.

A little surprised KSU only dropped 2 spots. Probably the right call. That was Missouri’s 30th win in a row at Plaige, and KSU was leading until the last minute. Plus, everyone else seemed to have lost as well.

Kansas only drops to #3. Still a shot at a #1 vs. #2 on Feb 8. Not a good one, but a shot.

Missouri is #9 in Sagarin’s predictor, #8 in Pomeroy’s ratings, and #5(!) in my straight power rating. Their season performance has been up-and-down, obviously (Oral Roberts really?), so they’re only #23 in Sagarin’s overall rating and #21 in my EWP ratings.

They’re a different team at home. They have no inside game. None whatsoever. They rely on aggressive pressure defense to create turnovers, and 3 point shooting in the half court. If they get in foul trouble, or the outside shots aren’t falling, they’re in a bit of a pickle.

Texas will be travelling to Missouri with a shot at breaking a pretty big home court winning streak if the Tigers keep it up. I’m sure glad Mike Anderson is in the conference. I really like him. I thought Georgia might hire him, but Missouri managed to keep him.

I wish A&M had been able to break into the top 25, simply to set up Saturday’s game with a little more hype. It’’s fine the way it is, but being ranked #26 is oh so close.

“I wish A&M had been able to break into the top 25”

You can blame that on a gruesome injury that literally demoralized our team so much that Turgeon considered forfeiting.

Washington is overrated. We would have worn them down the stretch. As it is, I doubt we make the tourney…

Roland was playing so much better this year. It’s a big loss, but they can still send out a team.

by Bob in Houston on Jan 11, 2010 1:56 PM CST reply actions

I still can’t get that image of Roland’s leg out of my mind. I was watching the game while working on something and glanced up to see it. At first my mind didn’t process what I saw.

Sorry you guys lost him, South06. These kids spend their entire youth dreaming of playing ball and to go out like that is awful. Also, would be nice to see A&M ranked, like SL Express said.

Well, my hope is that it demoralizes the Aggie team enough that Texas can finally get a sweep. Not that I wanted it to be because of an injury, but Varez Ward’s injury was at least as freakish, and Shawn Williams is no longer going to be available due to injury either, it looks like.

Hey, check out that Pac-10 performance…

Bad sports year out there so far.

SLX – what’s up with Williams?

by BEHorn on Jan 11, 2010 3:58 PM CST reply actions

BEHorn-

I’d imagine the trainers and staff will look to get him a medical redshirt because of his ankle. I believe the general rule is if you’ve played under 10% of one’s contests you can be eligible for the medical redshirt

by UT wildcatter on Jan 11, 2010 4:07 PM CST reply actions

It’s not 10%. 30%. I guess anything can happen, but I’m assuming Shawn Williams will be a dominant factor for this team next year as a redshirt freshman.

by SL Xpress on Jan 11, 2010 4:47 PM CST reply actions

I’m with SLX, I assume that Barnes (& Williams) is taking advantage of the injury in letting him redshirt this season to help lengthen the value of this recruiting class.

If this is how it works out, it would be similar to what happened to Jason Klotz.

Question about the starting lineup in the frontcourt

Now that we’ve gotten into the conference slate will Barnes substitute Jordan sometimes into the lineup for Mason? Strangly enough the Big XII teams have somewhat NBA lineups. Look no further than or matchup with Iowa State

PG 6-4
SG 6-5 Luca Staigger
SF 6-7 Marcus Gilstrap
PF 6-9 LeRon Dendy
BF 6-10 Craig Brackins

Not only will we be challenged by teams immediately zoning us on defense but they may run their offense right at Mason and whomever he’s guarding. The away games against KState and UCONN offer similar disadvantages to our starting lineups with UCONN being as big or bigger than UNC with four to five semi 7 footers. Now that we’re done playing Irvine and East Banjo State I just don’t see the reason to continue to start the 3 guard lineup.

Only impish aggy, who starts 3 guards and joke power forward nathan walkup, is comparable to what we trot out on the floor. That’s like us circa PJ Tucker when he was our starting 4. Sidenote I like Walkup’s game for aggy bball

I’d like to see Jordan get some starts. He doesn’t have to get them all just against lineups that warrant it

by UT wildcatter on Jan 12, 2010 2:21 AM CST reply actions

I correct myself aggy has inserted 6-7, 215 pound Porter-Gaud freshman Kris Middleton into the staring lineup to give them a little more size
