Dan Buckner finally shows some toughness
Unfortunately it was toughness of the illegal kind. He was arrested last night in College Station for criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
I wonder if he started limping after the cops arrested him?

I’m really beginning to question whether Tim Brewster laid a curse on our Tight Ends for getting Nolan. Which, if he did, is totally not fair, since Nolan sucks.

If DJ Monroe can go Eddie Sutton on the highway to match his .5 GPA and play in the title game then Buckner should be fine.

I believe he has a girlfriend that lives in College Station. I’m with Los on this one to some degree though. Dan’s problem is he doesn’t want to play the position he is best suited for and until that changes I don’t see us getting anything more from him than we did this year.

You know, there have been far too many of these things happening lately. I kind of hope Mack has some sort of team meeting to address this, as best as it can be addressed. In the last year we have had Kindle, Monroe, Collins, Davis, and now Buckner all doing stupid shit. I’m probably forgetting some folks, but that list is unacceptably long IMO.

I was looking at The Eagle’s website for details on this arrest, but then I realized that would have required one of their reporters to pick up a pen or pencil and go do some real work.
Once I realized the idiocy of that scenario, I went to TexAgs.com (why not? – it’s only one rung down the journalistic integrity food chain from The Eagle) and found these details:
Oh yes, it is just a kid making a bad choice… give me a break……
Because I was arrested all the time when I was his age… nope. He broke in somewhere trying to steal something and then resisted arrest when caught. Not a kid making a bad choice, a thug is a better and more accurate description.
by Ag_in_TX on Jan 14, 2010 9:49 AM CST reply actions
I’m with you ded,
for the most part, these kids are getting busted for shit that we all did in college and some of us are still doing i.e. having a few and deciding to drive home. While a bad decision it does not IMO mean you are a bad person. Now the Brandon Collins thing, yeah I’m looking down at him for that. Holding up a drug dealer at gunpoint was not in my repertoire of college shenanigans.

My roommate violently attacked a cop once.
We had taken our last final and went out on 6th Street to party with friends and females. The night got a little out of hand for my friend, as he was pouring down shots and beers regularly. I didn’t feel great and decided to be a driver for part of the group.
We were in 311 and as 2:15am hit, everyone began piling out. I was ahead of our friends in the crowd, trying to help a buddy from class get out the door as he could barely walk. He stumbled into a group of midgeted frat douches as we came out the door and they naturally reacted by trying to jump the incoherent guy, 6 on 1. I intervened and they calmed down as a crowd gathered and then one little bastard tried to grab me from behind as the cops showed up.
I have a bunch of friends hit the door at that point and I thought we were about to have a melee. The cops started separating people but my drunk roommate, apparently hallucinating, came flying out of the 311 doors like a streak and jumped onto a cop’s chest like a spider monkey. He shouted something in what must have been Sanskrit or Aramaic and the cop started spinning with my roommate clinging to him with four appendages above the waist.
“Get this guy off me!!! Get this guy off me!!! HELP!!!” The man’s arms were pinned by a mini-ogre’s bear hug.
The other 2 cops were busy sorting everything else out and didn’t seem to notice.
I eventually got my roommate’s attention and he jumped down from the cop. I started apologizing repeatedly to the cop and promising to get the guy home. I was certain the dipshit was going to jail, Buckner-style.
To this day we’re not real sure why the cop let him go. Maybe because I was clearly sober and apologetic, I don’t know. Also to this day, I wish those cops would have put a thorough nightstick beatdown on my roommate while the rest of us watched in fear and awe. It would have made for a better ending.
Anyway, … what happened?

If he was stealing something he’d be charged with that, too.
I’ve heard of people getting in disturbances at say, a bar, management asks them to leave, they refuse, and then they get arrested for trespassing.
It doesn’t make it any better, but in that scenario at least it isn’t a premeditated thing.

My roommate got arrested for PI in that exact same situation, and his girlfriend was the drunk one. Cops can be such shitbags.
This situation just reeks. Aggy cops recognize DB’s name/face, can’t charge him with anything legit, so they pull out trespass/resisting arrest. Hopefully this is a non-issue. But maybe this jolts Greg Davis into the realization that he should never thrown the wr screen to a receiver that runs a 5 flat 40.

the cops can use criminal trespass for anything. its a catch all. i was arrested at a gas station three weeks ago for criminal trespass when i gave the girl at the counter a fifty and she gave me change for a twenty. when i refused to leave until she gave me my correct change, she called the cops and said that i was trespassing. once the cuffs are on, or you have been directed by a peace office to stop resisting, then they can pin that on easily. all anyone has to do to be charged with criminal trespass is not leave when asked. that being said, stay the hell out of college station. there are PLENTY of hot girls in austin.

Their’s a full on love affair with Malc on this site and that motherfucker can’t catch shit. Atleast Buckner holds on to the ball. I don’t think he’s nearly as slow as some others do on this site, he just isn’t tough and doesn’t break tackles. I’m not a fan of the guy, but sometimes people are just average. For one, Buckner is not a Tight End. Do some of you even watch the games? Who really gives a shit what the staff is calling the guy? He is a slot WR, that’s it. He has the blocking skills of an open doorway. He has never put a hand down and he is not going to be doing that. Good grief. He’s as far from a TE as most of you.
In regard to dismissing his talent, I dismiss his play very easily. He has excellent hands when someone doesn’t want the ball more than him. He was embarrassed in an unforgivable manner against Nebraska. It was pathetic. He performed similarly against Bama. His act of limping after every catch in which he couldn’t find the sidelines is also played out.

“We’ve talked to Dan and his family about his recent situation and they’ve assured us that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong and they’re confident that it will be cleared up through the legal process,” Mack Brown said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.
“During our discussion with Dan and his family, we all decided that the best thing for him would be to transfer to another school and get a fresh start.
“We told them that we would release him of his scholarship and help him with the transition process in any way we can. We appreciate everything Dan has done for Texas and our football program and wish him the best in the future.”

I’m not saying I’m happy about kids getting arrested, but there’s still a world of difference in how things get handled. The ones who’ve done things worse than most of the people posting on here are completely removed from the program.
And the ones who’ve done exactly the kinds of stupid things that a substantial percentage of us did in the bloom of our youth have been punished. I don’t think you’re going to find many programs who kick guys completely off the team for DUIs. If that’s important to you, perhaps you can look around until you find one who does and begin rooting for them in your inimitable style.

We can still make fun of schools like OU for recruiting thugs. Because Stoops has recruited guys who have committed felonies BEFORE getting onto campus.
You’re ALWAYS going to have kids do stupid shit in your program. The important part is what you do AFTER they get in trouble. If this had been Meyer or Stoops, they’d have slapped Buckner on the wrist and that’d be the end of it. Mack, on the other hand, politely tells Buckner to GTFO because We’re Texas and we don’t tolerate that shit.
Honestly, I don’t see what else Mack can really do. Every time a player gets in legitimate trouble he drops the hammer. The other guys on the team have to know he’s not going to tolerate any horseshit, yet some of them are stupid enough to do it anyway. All you can really do is cut them from the herd and keep on going.

Would someone please introduce John Chiles and Phillip Payne to a couple of crazy white barrel racers.

Buckner has announced he will transfer, according to the Statesman. Not sure if someone else already pointed this out or not.

Apparently Buckner has had women issues before and also not handled them well.

If Hicks and Jeffcoat commit we would need four more to transfer.

Apparently, A&M WR Jeff Fuller was arrested on Jan 2nd.

Haha, that’s amazing. “Man, we should have offered Fuller instead! What? He was arrested too? Okay, who here HASN’T been arrested??”

I’m guessing aggy is feeling better about Fuller right now than we are about Buckner. Well at least from a production/potential/he’s still on their team standpoint.
Exactly how bad of a “nest shitter” do you have to be to have “Mama Bird Mack” throw you out?

Weird syncronicity.
Buckner is taken over Fuller.
Buckner is from Allen.
Fuller resides in BCS.
Buckner is arrested in BCS.
Fuller is arrested in Allen.

Buckner’s secretary is named Fuller and Fuller’s secretary is named Buckner

They share the same favorite architect: Buckminster Fuller.
I predict they will one day live together in a geodesic dome.

Mike Davis will be better than Buckner the day he sets foot on campus. So will Darius. So will Chris. So will……

This has been awesome. A Lincoln-Kennedy assassination reference (good work Killer) into Ace Ventura, into bizarre racist, into a Buckminster Fuller/geodesic dome refernce. Other than the racist idiot, who I’d accuse of having migrated here from a lesser board but for the use of parentheticals, this is exactly why I love this board.

He should have been arrested in Travis County. The jail’s full there.

Buckner and girlfriend, Julianne Pipoly, are still dating according to his facebook and twitter accounts. He is now at Arizona, and she is transferring to Stanford. Still together, but starting over in new places. Sounds like there will be more trouble in his future with her.
