Texas Baseball: 13 In A Row
It would be entirely understandable for a a good baseball team to come off of a three game sweep/shellacking of a cricket-infested in-state rival, a #2 national ranking, their 12th consecutive win, play disinterested baseball on the following Tuesday against an outmatched opponent, and cruise to a 6-3 victory.

Great stuff, Scipio. Where’s HenryJames? Did he violate parole? And Matt Cotcher?

I was at the game, this team is legit and should easily get to omaha. Who’s the lefty who started for Texas? If he’s a 4th/5th day starter, wow, he was bringing it.

Kansas State, at 9-3, is only one game back in the loss column. But they haven’t played the Horns yet & there’s a reason that the third through sixth place teams all have at least seven losses. And the good news doesn’t stop there…..Texas faces three of the four teams from the bottom of the conference to finish the season. In addition to Texas, KSU still must play OU, Kansas and A&M.

Sam Stafford started the game and he has looked pretty good throughout the year. It’s tough to develop a 4th starter when we are only using 4 pitchers in total during the weekend series. Work for the rest of the pitching staff is very hard to come by for this team.

I’m excited that we are doing well, but worried that we are doing well because of the level of competition. Are my fears unjustified? Or should i legitimately be worried about a first round exit because of course we look really good against a bad big 12 and midweek practice games?

A lot of whether or not we have success in the post-season will depend on whether we are hot or cold at that time. However, I think overall, we are a stronger team than last year. Deeper pitching staff, far more power at the plate, and a little better fielding.
Our stats are better than last year’s and we will have more Top 50 RPI wins as well.

Good teams are supposed to beat bad teams. Beating them 21-2, 14-0, and 8-0 shouldn’t give you anything to worry about.

We have the ability to bang the ball and we also have the abilty to manufacture runs on nights when the opposing pitching staff is giving us fits.
On top of that, we play great defense.
Is this Augie’s best all-around team?

Nice write-up Scip. One quibble, Texas plays OSU at the Disch. I like that this team is hitting its’ stride in the middle of conference play warming up for post season play. That’s diametrically opposite of the basketball team this year

Of course I knew that. I thought it would be like Augie to take the team to an empty stadium in Stillwater to prove that our true opponent is within.

Haha. Show up to the stadium, do the ‘Clark Griswald staring at the Grand Canyon’ look, and then get back on the plane.

Show up to the stadium, do the ‘Clark Griswold staring at Wally World’ look, and then go get a pellet gun, and tell the boys, “We’re playing today.” A thrice wined Augie would do it.

We may go down there with a full team, they might not all come back. If we miss the Big 12 again Franks seat gets real warm next season

Nice writeup, Scipio; always love to see college baseball getting some pub.
alma, I would argue that the 2004-05 teams are still Augie’s best overall, but this year’s version may top them when it’s all over. The offense is really coming on the past month and if it holds up, it would be a big surprise for us not to get to Omaha and seriously contend for the title because the pitching has just been otherwordly and the defense has been solid.
The biggest roadblock between us and Omaha right now would seem to be TCU, but if form holds, a super regional rematch would be at the Disch.

i dig the article. yoda has the team believing. once they get that faith established, it should be lights out. how good do we have it at Texas?
