If we can stop Neil Lomax, we have a chance.

It’s on ESPN. Young with a nice 5 yard hook up to Bo Scaife.

Chris Johnson then runs tentatively twice in a row to set up fourth down. Mike Heimedinger hates my freedom.

Matt Lienart gets the starting nod for the Cardinals. Regardless of the outcome, he’ll think they have a better football team.

I get the feeling that Fisher is going to have to take the reins off of VY if he wants to win this year. Their defense looks pretty f’n mediocre on paper.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:00 PM CDT reply actions

Next series for VY.

No gain for Johnson.

QB Hurry leading to a throw away by Young.

Third and 10 five yard completion to Nate Washington.

Three and out. Deadliest Warrior gets more intriguing with every possession. Is there a MAC replay on somewhere? Toledo Rockets vs. Ohio University Bobcats? Competing point shavers in a tug of war trying to keep the game inside or outside the number.

Arizona 3 and out.

VY in his third series hits Hall for 9, Johnson gets a first down on a three yard run.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:14 PM CDT reply actions

Vince with a sandlot throw to the backup tight end off of his back foot for 30 yards.

Jaws just said he threw the tight end open. Me rikey.

Vince hits nate washington on a quick slant into a tiny window.

Scipio, it’s either live blog this game or watch Law and Order with the Charge Nurse.

Touchdown Tenny! Vince marches them down and Chris Johnson gets to paydirt on 6 yard stretch play. Why the fuck didn’t Vince Young start from jump-street last season?

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:18 PM CDT reply actions

How bad is your running game when Tim Hightower is your starter?

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:22 PM CDT reply actions

i’m amazed that matt al-leinart is in his fifth year. looks like a young madrasa student out there.

by Christian Wofford on Aug 23, 2010 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

Hmmm, javon ringer is an interesting change up to Chris Johnson. Nice six yard gain and then a 6 yard safety valve catch for a first down.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

VY with his best matt norgren dribble for a first down.

by Christian Wofford on Aug 23, 2010 7:29 PM CDT reply actions

Tenny’s Oline is mashing right now. Vince Young looks rookie year mobile out there. Nice Matt Nordgren esqe dribble for a 10 yard run.

VY then audibles to a go route on a blitz and should have drawn a PI call. No call, but Young looks really good. Of course, the Cardinals defense is really bad.

Vince Young with a frozen rope out for a first down. Officials rule it incomplete, but Washington caught it.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:32 PM CDT reply actions

I like this Christian Wofford cat.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:33 PM CDT reply actions

Trips, not sure you need to give us the play by play here. Lets just mock and ridicule shit as we see it. Like Gundy saying that was a good no-call and Tirico calling him out.. Clearly pulled Washington’s arm on the play.

Nate Washington looks like he might be making a hell of a step up this year.

by SydneyCarton on Aug 23, 2010 7:34 PM CDT reply actions

Vince slimmed down last year, but I think he’s shed some more weight this off season. He looks like he did in 2005 again.

by kevwun on Aug 23, 2010 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, I thought the same. He looks a lot more slender than he has in years past.

by SydneyCarton on Aug 23, 2010 7:36 PM CDT reply actions

Sydney, good point. It’s preseason for live blogging too, I suppose.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:37 PM CDT reply actions

Wow, Vince Young is throwing peas out there.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:38 PM CDT reply actions

VY is playing like leinart, not bush, stole his heisman. scans field, passes crisp.

by Christian Wofford on Aug 23, 2010 7:39 PM CDT reply actions

I just figure it’s safe to say that everyone who’s showing up here has access to the game. We’re here for the hijinks.

And to watch Vince wreck shit.

I’ve always been one of the people who was a bit reticent when people would say that Vince throws a great deep ball. I never thought he threw that great of a deep ball, personally. As he once said, he just throws it up and let his athletes do the work. So far in this game, his deep ball has looked much improved. Only one misfire, and that looked like a miscommunication.

by SydneyCarton on Aug 23, 2010 7:40 PM CDT reply actions

how many texas fans thought “automatic QB draw” on that 3rd down?

by Christian Wofford on Aug 23, 2010 7:42 PM CDT reply actions

Christian Wofford looks like a young Jerry Reed.

by SydneyCarton on Aug 23, 2010 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

What is a Mike Tirico, exactly?

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

Derek Anderson is in, and with a couple first downs, you’ll have a quarterback controversy Phoenix.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:45 PM CDT reply actions

What, did I misspell his name or something? In general, a Mike Tirico resembles a Carl from Slingblade that just dropped a deuce in his pans.

It’s time for the second and third string live bloggers to come in and mop up. We worked out some kinks and had a couple witty comments that makes me think we’re ready for live bullets. Remember, some of you are blogging for a job.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 7:59 PM CDT reply actions

Sid, you’re right, Carlton is in much better shape. Is it true Tirico is a horn dog that texts his junk to interns?

Vince throws up the hook ‘em after the sideline interview. Michelle Tefoya has been verbally impregnated. That dude’s the GOAT.

by Trips Right on Aug 23, 2010 8:09 PM CDT reply actions

I hear that at ESPN, some form of sexual harassment if a requirement. Kornheiser, Harold Reynolds, and Sean Salisbury insist they were fulfilling contract obligations.

by SydneyCarton on Aug 23, 2010 8:10 PM CDT reply actions

VY signs off by flashing his horns. classic.

i assume a line producer warned ms. tafoya not to accidentally horns down.

I’m going to eat at Killeen’s Steakhouse tomorrow night in Pearland. Do you think it will be rocking’ for the LLWS like the Tavern for a Horns game?

Badass steakhouse but I’ll miss the full moon rising over Galveston Bay

I’m a second-stringer still I guess

Gruden:

“They like Simms here in Tennessee. He went to Texas, where Vince Young went to school. They are a lot of similarities between these guys, as far as upbringing…they really like him here.”

I’m not sure this statement even needs any commentary. Could anything be more ridiculous? I know these guys are having to feel the airwaves, while 3rd string backups let Samkon Gado gash them for 200 yds and 9 TDs, but at least speak in moderate truths.

by thestos on Aug 23, 2010 9:10 PM CDT reply actions

Vince and Chris Simms had similar upbringings according to Gruden.

by Juice on Aug 23, 2010 9:12 PM CDT reply actions

1. They both grew up in major metropolitan areas
2. They both went to Texas
3. They both injure spleens (simms his own)
4. They are both in Tennessee now
5. I think they are both 6’ 4", but Vince is still growing

by Nero on Aug 23, 2010 9:57 PM CDT reply actions

I am very encouraged by the Tenn defense. I know the ones were up against Leinhart, and that was part of it; but I thought they were going to be bad this year. Today they looked good. Tenn seems to have a lot of skill position players that are good. None other than CJ are “very good”, but they have about 5 receivers/TEs that are quality. And Ringer/Blount look good as well. I think we are looking at a 9-7 team that could go 10-6 with a few breaks.

by fear_the_cow on Aug 23, 2010 10:06 PM CDT reply actions

Killeen’s in Pearland…very good steak. UT_06 – where in Seabrook were you?

So, Vince has me thinking about picking him (assuming he’s still available) in the later rounds as an attractive backup QB option…am I stupid?

by uthookem on Aug 23, 2010 10:20 PM CDT reply actions

It is NEVER stupid to pick Vince. NEVER.

by SleepyHorn on Aug 23, 2010 10:37 PM CDT reply actions

@uthookem:

Not stupid at all. In theory, your back up QB is only supposed to start one game for sure and that’s the starter’s bye week. If you’re in a 10 team league, he’ll likely be available in the eighth round or so. In a twelve team league, maybe later. Pick him before you take a D/ST or a K…. they can be picked up week to week off the waiver wire.

It will be a particularly rewarding pick if the Titans play, say Tampa Bay, in your starter’s week off. I love VY, but he isn’t necessarily geared to be a fantasy starter. I took him though, and he’s on my bench backing up Aaron Rodgers. He’ll be starting against Miami in warm weather in Week 10. I’ll take that.

by Confused and Dazed on Aug 23, 2010 11:15 PM CDT reply actions

Oh, but if Rodgrers gets hurt, I’m trading for a better option.

by Confused and Dazed on Aug 23, 2010 11:21 PM CDT reply actions

UThook – we lived at Regatta Bay apartments off of repsodorph for about 2.5 years. We just bought our first home in Soutdown. Pearland is nice, but I liked being <5 minutes from the water. Are you still in the Seabrook/Kemah/Clearlake area?

by UT_06 on Aug 23, 2010 11:27 PM CDT reply actions

UT_06 – I’m from Clear Lake. Live in Houston now unfortunately, but go back every weekend to go out on the water – can’t wait to move back one day. Killeen’s and Outriggers are two of my favorites.

by CL_Horn on Aug 24, 2010 8:23 AM CDT reply actions

I just drafted Vince on my fantasy team. With Charles and Benson. I’m such a homer.

Luckily, I resisted the urge to put in a $1 bet on Roy.

My guess is that no one is checking this thread anymore, but did ya’ll hear Herm Edwards on sportscenter say that he gives all the credit for VY’s comeback to Jeff Fisher? Just confirms that only the retarded fucking rejects end up on the WWL.

by texastough on Aug 24, 2010 12:23 PM CDT reply actions

I saw that texastough…what a crock of shit. I give the credit to Vince for being one BAMFer and him being injured (and maybe a little too thick) in the 2008 season. Oh, and to Bud Adams demanding that they bench captain alcohol and start Vince.

I’m near Red Bluff and 146 – not on the water but drive across bridges and enjoy the views every day.

They also ran the dribble/scramble highlight as a positive. Can you imagine the screeching about “ball security” had it not bounced back into his hands?

by JUICE on Aug 24, 2010 12:54 PM CDT reply actions

Vince Young. Forever. Unconditionally.

by Homesick Alien on Aug 24, 2010 11:21 PM CDT reply actions

JC – It may be a little homerish, but I don’t think those are terrible pick ups. Benson is a top 10 running back. The only downside is that he doesn’t get all of ‘his’ TDs. I’m not sure why JC hasn’t been the starter in preseason, but he’s looked better than Jones to me. I don’t know why they picked up Jones. They should be trying to get JC more touches, not less.

Really, unless you passed up CJ, Peterson, or MJD as your RBs I can’t fault you for taking any of the 3 UT backs (Ricky). After those big 3 RBs, there is a noticable drop off to the next tier, and everyone there is pretty close. Picking on homerism amongst them is about as good as picking on a gut feeling that player Y is going to keep his YPC up and get 50 more carries this year.
