Podcast #1: The One Where Scipio and Sailor Drone On and On...

Today marks another milestone in the Borg-like takeover of all media forms by the Barking Carnival and its FanTake mothership.

Somebody gave Scipio and I fancy microphones and Skype accounts. We then proceeded to abuse them and possibly inflict all manner of aural torture on our listeners. Not oral torture, HenryJames, aural. It's different. I think.

Anyway, give us a listen and let us know what you think. Unless you didn't like it in which case keep it to yourself. We're going to get lots of Barkers involved and we've got some really interesting guests lined up including plenty of former Horns.

Listen here.

Good stuff by you guys. Bout time. Will this be a regular thong?

by Mr. Pink on Sep 3, 2010 9:31 PM CDT reply actions

Sailor will wear his regular thong.

Mr Pink, thanks for the kind words. We’re looking to podcast at least twice a week.

Once we figure out hosting and some other logistical issues, we’ll also get it lined up for you on iTunes.

What’s in all this for you? Is it more lucrative than a real job and better than spending time with the fam?

by Hey on Sep 3, 2010 9:51 PM CDT reply actions

I would imagine that it depends on the job. And the fam.

You are assuming any of us have real jobs — which is probably more logical than any of us having a fam to spend time with.

Y’all sound like dorks. And/or attorneys. Which is fine, I’m a dork myself, although I would never try to pronounce “cause célèbre” correctly on a podcast. I would go w/ the redneck “cause suh-lebb”

How ‘bout returning to the “Dan Neil era” as far as our running game? I’d like to hear his opinion after the unveiling of our new (pretty please?) offense.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

Well, just because I can’t remember the last time anyone said such nice things about me doesn’t mean I’ll listen again.

Dunno what kind of microphones you picked up, but a dead cat would be helpful. I heard alot of pushy "P"s. Something like this:

yes EggNog, the some semblence… PoPPing Ps and hiSSing Ssss….

but very well done fellas. incredible content, astute and concise, with an obvious rapport.
on those notes, id be happy to volunteer production help, grab music and effects and the like, and do a proper mix down if you so desire.
lemme know, would be glad to polish it up a bit for Dos Gatos Grecos…

cheers, and good gigs guys.

In a mastabatory sense, ESPN’s analysts are the bra section of the SEARS catalog, and these guys are Jenna Jameson pre-ebola.

by Dave on Sep 4, 2010 3:04 AM CDT reply actions

Smoking crater? Not. Once I got into Scip’s up-speak groove, the ’cast was a perfect combination of humor, information, insider intelligence…but more importantly…succinctness. The length was spot on. I will be a regular listener so long as you check the snide Greg Davis remarks at the door (smiling).

And to hornybadger, please tell us you meant “Asian-Fusion”.

That lisp-masking software seems to work pretty well.

by Jesus Shuttlesworth on Sep 4, 2010 7:06 AM CDT reply actions

I’m pretty sure there is no hard consonant sound in Scipio, it is just a soft s like science. Just for your information.

by uttuck on Sep 4, 2010 7:38 AM CDT reply actions

Also, you guys sound so suave it throws me off. I thought the posters here would sound more like Gilbert Godfried.

Where are you guys located? I’m sure this is an Austin broadcast, but I’m stuck in Dallas, so I was wondering if I could catch a show live, and throw stuff at you to see if you can concentrate and ignore my nude gyrations.

Good stuff though, I’m hooked.

by uttuck on Sep 4, 2010 8:02 AM CDT reply actions

Tuck,

There is no soft c in Latin.

by The General on Sep 4, 2010 8:11 AM CDT reply actions

Then it’s a freaking good thing we’re not speaking Latin General. What do you army boys learn in school? j/k

But not about Scipio, that crap has to be soft, like a post binge bowel movement. Make appropriate changes on the next podcast.

hook’em

You guys are brave as all get out. Well done although I find myself expecting (hoping for?) a Parker and Stone “Cannibal! The Musical” type booze-a-thon to break out.

by Minnesotahorn on Sep 4, 2010 8:37 AM CDT reply actions

“What’s in all this for you? Is it more lucrative than a real job and better than spending time with the fam?”

I’m reminded of “The Nightman Cometh” when Charlie announces he wrote a musical and the gang all wants to know who the mark is.

by Minnesotahorn on Sep 4, 2010 8:48 AM CDT reply actions

Well done ladies, but was hoping to hear some really awkward radio spots selling flooring or some such.

Tecate is the Hodges Mitchell of mexican beers. Pacifico is the RIcky Williams.

Vasherized and I (Dave, did I mess that up too?) have a bet concerning Muschamp. I posit that if the LSU job opens up this year, Will is going to take his talents and knowledge of Waller fishing holes, to Baton Rouge. Nevermind the house by Bergstrom, he’s loading the family into the almost paid for Civic and moving on.

2 bottles of scotch that I’m hoping like hell to lose.

by magnusbleuveigner on Sep 4, 2010 8:59 AM CDT reply actions

We need a laugh-track guys. Our demographic research tells us so.

by SportsJesus on Sep 4, 2010 9:01 AM CDT reply actions

I can’t believe I spent a whole 24 minutes listening, I usually turn off podcasts after a few minutes. Overall, very good work, which echoes the writing.

Muschamp has got to have a target date or a set plan for pay increases to stick around, and I still think if LSU or UGA opens up he is gone (unless his pay increase is tied to other job offers).

Mack wants (and I think deserves the right, has shed the blood for the program, etc) another NC, and he’s not leaving until he gets it.

Not bad gentlemen. May I suggest HenryJames coming on at the end of every podcast and donning a mascot head?

by Art Vandelay on Sep 4, 2010 10:35 AM CDT reply actions

Scipio was a known from hearing the podcast last fall with Peter Bean, but I was surprised with the presence Sailor Ripley brought. Nice work. I get a sense of the broader appeal you guys might have with your informed knowledge base that goes well beyond Texas football.

Regarding Texas football, I was surprised to hear the commentary on Mac McWhorter. For all the talk about all things Offense in recent weeks, I don’t recall his name being mentioned once in relation to an impact on the running game. I’ve wondered what, if anything, was different about his coaching at Georgia Tech that might have been getting squelched here. I’d like to think that any new success in the running game is in part a result of McWhorter getting to do his thing.

Nice references to Mackenzie and Bain. Do either of you guys happen to work for a certain company based out of RR, or are those two particular consulting firms just pervasive across the business world?

holy fucking shit. it’s actual intelligent sports radio conversation, without a bunch intros featuring staind music played over random audio clips from will ferrell movies.

by jon on Sep 5, 2010 12:14 AM CDT reply actions

Scipio,

Promise you’ll never attempt another impersonation of Mike “The Situation”. Do this for me and the sky is the limit for you serial podcasters.

We were on the wrong side of the bell curve for game 1 except for the defense, which I’d put right on top of the bell. Lots of room for improvement in all categories and the biggest concern after game 1 has to be the OL’s disjointed play. Four weeks to get their shit together.

The guys we thought would be badass — Robinson, Randall, S.Acho, Vaccarro — delivered as expected. The guys we worried about — Chykie, Britt Mitchell, Kyle Hix — disappointed as expected. A senior tackle shouldn’t have two false starts, let alone against Rice.
