I can haz Fennis Dembo?

by sizzlechest on Sep 11, 2010 5:01 PM CDT reply actions

Jay Novacek & Jim Kiick send their regards.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 5:05 PM CDT reply actions

That Joe Tiller is a heck of a coach, but he’s no Fred Akers.

by Holy Cow on Sep 11, 2010 5:10 PM CDT reply actions

I know it will sound callous, but I hope Mack doesn’t overdo the weepy condolence thing here. There’s appropriate acknowlegement, and there’s ill-advised obsequiousness.

Let’s stick to #1 and focus on the job at hand.

by Levander Williams on Sep 11, 2010 5:26 PM CDT reply actions

Y’all podcasting at halftime?

by Canuck Horn on Sep 11, 2010 5:43 PM CDT reply actions

Vondrell McGee out for the game b/c of academic issues but apparently he’s in good academic standing.

Brian Davis strikes again.

by maninblack on Sep 11, 2010 5:50 PM CDT reply actions

Levander just wanted to use the word obsequiousness to counter Jom Knox’s ass blood antics

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:04 PM CDT reply actions

christalmighty, 5 hour energy commercials are worse than Jim Knox

first run with Fozzy off tackle

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:14 PM CDT reply actions

HAHAHA Notre Dame QB couldnt even land the pass in the endzone

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:19 PM CDT reply actions

Canuck, no.

Glad to see the training wheels come off in the first drive, but would like to see us get 6 there.

Hix has his third false start of the young season.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:20 PM CDT reply actions

Open in 4-2-5 with Acho inside and Jeffcoat starting.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:23 PM CDT reply actions

Our D is as good as we thought. Our O not so much.

by Craig Biggio's Dirty Uniform on Sep 11, 2010 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

Nice 3 and out.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

The D looks up for it.

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:25 PM CDT reply actions

Nice pickup for Malc.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:28 PM CDT reply actions

That thing goes if Kirk gets his block. Damn.

O line is making me drink more Maker’s

by Craig Biggio's Dirty Uniform on Sep 11, 2010 6:29 PM CDT reply actions

You know that Greg Davis is dying to screw this whole running experiment and just start airing it out on every play.

by Cricketslayer on Sep 11, 2010 6:29 PM CDT reply actions

Nice grab

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:29 PM CDT reply actions

Hell of a throw and catch.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

nice grab by malc

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

You know that Greg Davis is dying</em

Man. That phrase really got my hopes up.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

I’m no fan of the hurry-up power running offense.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

The risk/reward was out of whack on that sideline pass to Mal, but great job aggressively taking the ball.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

this is so futile it makes me vomit

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

The O is really starting to frustrate me.

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

What a shitty screen. Fuck. Just like every year except 2005 and 2008, I hate our offense.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

Worst. Screen. Ever. Bad place to call it too. they aren’t blitzing.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

our OL cant even push around former LBs

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

Apparently the hills have eyes in Wyoming, too.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 6:32 PM CDT reply actions

the only thing lacking is mutant rape.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:33 PM CDT reply actions

We’re really not that into giving our offense a chance to succeed. This gets back to Scipio’s thing about Davis’ inability to call plays situationally. That was a random screen — out of a shotgun — that he rain because it was third down and he hoped that maybe they’d send the house? And leave single coverage on the outside? Right.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:33 PM CDT reply actions

Does Davis still script the first 15 plays of the game?

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:34 PM CDT reply actions

Wyoming’s MO is zone on 3rd and long with lots of men in coverage. Usually rush 3 or 4.

A screen is the worst thing you can run. Just so bizarre.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:35 PM CDT reply actions

I just made a mold of barrel-dude out of mashed potatoes.

by sizzlechest on Sep 11, 2010 6:35 PM CDT reply actions

Great throw by AC-S

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:36 PM CDT reply actions

A screen is the worst thing you can run. Just so bizarre.

That’s why I asked about the scripting. It could explain the complete lack of situational appropriateness.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:36 PM CDT reply actions

This means something…

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 6:36 PM CDT reply actions

Where’s the pass rush?

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:37 PM CDT reply actions

Yes, Leonard is just like Jordan Shipley. Except he’s 6-4 210.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:37 PM CDT reply actions

Davis needs to take a page out of the Christopher Guest playbook when it comes to sticking to the script.

Isn’t it charming that there’s no way to distinguish between a situationally inappropriate call due to scripting or a situationally inappropriate call due to gross incompetence?

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 6:37 PM CDT reply actions

Davis’ idea of being creative is just calling a bunch of random ass plays with no cohesiveness, believing that the random nature in and of itself will cause the defense to be confused. Scipio is exactly right. There is no consideration at all of the situation outside of perhaps down and distance, if that.

by Cricketslayer on Sep 11, 2010 6:38 PM CDT reply actions

Pressure only rushing 3. Awesome job by Acho.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:38 PM CDT reply actions

Acho working hard so far.

We have an atrocious running game.

3rd and 1 and we get another false start. Geez.

Thank God Taylor Doyle is on his way!!!!!!!!!

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM CDT reply actions

This is embarrassing.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM CDT reply actions

Wyoming rushed two there and Gilbert pressures himself.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM CDT reply actions

So then we go max protect on a 3rd and long. Because they don’t blitz.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

I blame a lot of the false starts this year on fear of failure that results from our shitty scheme.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

Vaccaro played that so well. Textbook.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:47 PM CDT reply actions

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:48 PM CDT reply actions

I bet Vaccaro could run the ball.

¡Que chingon!

by 2xHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:49 PM CDT reply actions

Look at it this way. We’ve scored infinity times more points than our opponent.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:49 PM CDT reply actions

VY 2nd half opening drive v Okie Lite esk pump fake by ACS (minus the 80 run to the house)

My pee pee is flaccid after watching our O. Greg needs a drink

by Craig Biggio's Dirty Uniform on Sep 11, 2010 6:50 PM CDT reply actions

BTW, Durant drops 38 on Lithuania to put us in the World Basketball Final. Dropped 33 on Russia Thursday.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:50 PM CDT reply actions

sounds like I am not missing much… oy. do NOT have a good feeling about next week.

by spit and tears on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

Does he have 40 in him for the final?

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

O/U on yards this next series? 12?

by NY Horn on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

So you’re saying someone related to Texas can score?

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

GD needs a 5 hour energy

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM CDT reply actions

Can Durant drop a burning car on Greg Davis?

by sizzlechest on Sep 11, 2010 6:52 PM CDT reply actions

I’ll take the over. One promising first down and then we’ll shit the bed.

by Cricketslayer on Sep 11, 2010 6:52 PM CDT reply actions

Does Texas have any clue what they’re trying to do on offense? It’s like Davis is pulling plays randomly out of a bag. Garrett looks very raw right now. No way this the number 4 teaming the country.

by Holy Cow on Sep 11, 2010 6:52 PM CDT reply actions

we need those punt blocks to keep the offense on a short/off field

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:53 PM CDT reply actions

Klatt needs to work with Drew Kelson in the booth. Ah the memories.

by Craig Biggio's Dirty Uniform on Sep 11, 2010 6:53 PM CDT reply actions

MIKE DAVIS!!!!

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:53 PM CDT reply actions

Mike Davis!!!

by Matt on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM CDT reply actions

Welcome to the team Davis! But squeeze that second one.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM CDT reply actions

Klatt is right. We should be running four vertical and letting Gilbert take a shot.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

What a joke

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

I love a 3 yard route on a 3rd and 5.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

Looks like the I-Formation power running game experiment went so well that we decided there’s no more reason to practice it.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

Davis looked GOOD on that play. Smooth, explosive, composed.

by BurntOrangeCanadian on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

Did anyone else see Andre Ware pick this game for his upset of the season or whatever?

by floridianhorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

looked like a deep cross – goodwin’s route? – was open

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

You know, we all said Gilbert was the most important player this year (maybe other than Randall), but I’m pretty sure that Sherrod Harris could run this offense equally effectively. Or little McCoy. Or Richard Walton.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM CDT reply actions

Based on their performance so far this season, this appears to be the worst Texas offense in the Greg Davis era.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 6:57 PM CDT reply actions

Since our offense is so inept, it’s a great thing we are able to directionally kick the ball so well.

by tim on Sep 11, 2010 6:58 PM CDT reply actions

Wow Gilbert looks extremely average.

by Holy Cow on Sep 11, 2010 6:58 PM CDT reply actions

bill walton?

by PVogel on Sep 11, 2010 6:59 PM CDT reply actions

Bill Walton would run it better.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 6:59 PM CDT reply actions

and i wish i could tell davis that quarters coverage = double slants. or stick.

by PVogel on Sep 11, 2010 7:00 PM CDT reply actions

to say nothing of Richard Walton

by spit and tears on Sep 11, 2010 7:00 PM CDT reply actions

*Greg. Greg Davis

by PVogel on Sep 11, 2010 7:00 PM CDT reply actions

This is actually really, really embarrassing. There is no way to put a positive spin on what this offense has done this half.

Is Cody Johnson not playing?

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:01 PM CDT reply actions

Gilbert has a ton of ability but the game hasn’t slowed down yet, and nothing we do schematically helps him a bit. I am starting to wonder if Barrett Matthews banged his GF though.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:01 PM CDT reply actions

Great D. Another 3 and out.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:01 PM CDT reply actions

or richard simmons

by Topo Gigio on Sep 11, 2010 7:01 PM CDT reply actions

I like Curtis as the punt returner. A lot of quickness.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:02 PM CDT reply actions

There are no easy yards for this Texas offense.

by ultralight on Sep 11, 2010 7:02 PM CDT reply actions

Return to the Akers era

by nimrodxi on Sep 11, 2010 7:02 PM CDT reply actions

Wrong. The offense loses yards with ease.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 7:03 PM CDT reply actions

Let’s go ahead and get the ball into the hands of White, Williams, Davis, Goodwin, and Monroe as much as possible. F#ck everyone else. Our only chance to score is to break big plays out of nothing.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:03 PM CDT reply actions

Heard Cody was out tonight.

Our backs’ invdividual talent is about 5th on the list of our run game woes, but having watched a full day of CFB watching the difference between what they get on swing passes/half decent blocked plays and what so many other D1 backs get is startling.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:04 PM CDT reply actions

Tech is going to light us up if we don’t show some sort of spark on offense. Our D is fantastic, but 3 points against Wyoming is simply unacceptable.

by Cricketslayer on Sep 11, 2010 7:04 PM CDT reply actions

Meanwhile, Penn State stinks out loud.

by bleh on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

At least send Vaccarro after Knox during this possession so we have some entertainment value while the O is on the field.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

Can this offense score any points in Lubbock next week? That game is starting to look Loki an L.

by Holy Cow on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

marquise made that happen, by himself

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, the defense looks great. As they should against Wyoming.

I told you Goodwin needed the ball and it’d take superhuman effort.

Chiles is clueless.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM CDT reply actions

Marquise breaks tackles better than Newton.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

Earl, imo.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

I like it when Davis calls a play with 4 broken tackles.

by Dave on Sep 11, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

goodwin is a freak. chiles’ blocking- not so much

by PVogel on Sep 11, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

Nothing comes easy for our offense.

by Mr Excitement on Sep 11, 2010 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

Clipper Cooper-Castleberry!

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:07 PM CDT reply actions

That was nice running from Goodwin.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:07 PM CDT reply actions

We just ran a QB sneak on a 2nd down against Wyoming.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:08 PM CDT reply actions

Real emotion comes from real achievement.

Our D doesn’t struggle with emotion Mack. Ponder that.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:08 PM CDT reply actions

Davis has no faith in Gilbert, apparently. Hence the lame-ass horizontal screens.

Newton falls down easier than Hodges Mitchell.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

Block it for 3, Newton gets you 3.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

ANY misdirection creates at least a degree of space. Although about 100 D1 backs get the first down there.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

scip – you guys doing a halftime podcast, or will you be dumping tabasco in your eyes after this offensive abortion?

by eljinca on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

Q sneak is clearly our best play. We should simply run it on every down in every game.

by Louis L'am Jones on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

awesome. 2nd qb sneak on 2nd and short

by Topo Gigio on Sep 11, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

eljinca – no.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

wow that sweep looked good… maybe too good?

by scagnetti on Sep 11, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

Ugly, but always willing to believe Kirkendoll is not in the right spot.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

Gilbert looks terrible.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

The color talent are indeed annoying. Lack even basic knowledge, such as the fact that among Longhorn speedsters, there is such a person as DJ Monroe.

by Louis L'am Jones on Sep 11, 2010 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

McCoy sucks the defense into a roughing the passer there.

by ultralight on Sep 11, 2010 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

We wouldn’t want to throw play action TE post against Cover 2, would we? Is that even a legal football play?

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM CDT reply actions

Touchdowns are overrated.

by Mr Excitement on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM CDT reply actions

Justin Tucker – my offensive MVP thus far.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM CDT reply actions

This is surreal.

by BrickHorn on Sep 11, 2010 7:14 PM CDT reply actions

and tucker sucks…that’s how pathetic we are.

by crash_davis on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM CDT reply actions

I see what you did there, Greg Davis. You realized close games are much more exciting and reorchestrated the offense to ensure a close game even against vastly inferior talent.

Everything you do, you do for US.

by Louis L'am Jones on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM CDT reply actions

I think Matthews got caught in a 3-way with Gilbert’s girlfriend and Davis’ daughter.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM CDT reply actions

Whaley sighting! Looks like a D1-AA guard.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:16 PM CDT reply actions

just sandbagging for the oklahoma game, when we will be 2-2.

by eljinca on Sep 11, 2010 7:16 PM CDT reply actions

This is going to be a painful year. We’ll win most, but it’ll be ugly.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:17 PM CDT reply actions

No accountability on offense whatsoever. None.

by Mr Excitement on Sep 11, 2010 7:18 PM CDT reply actions

“If you’re Wyoming, you’re one play away from being in the lead.”

Because you see, it is possible in football to score seven or more points on one play. You just score the little known mega-touchdown.

by Louis L'am Jones on Sep 11, 2010 7:18 PM CDT reply actions

HAHAHAHA little kid mines for gold on regional TV! Excellent.

by nobis60 on Sep 11, 2010 7:20 PM CDT reply actions

On the positive side, Wyoming currently has 34 yards of offense.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:20 PM CDT reply actions

That kid picking her nose was the offensive highlight of the half.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:21 PM CDT reply actions

i feel terrible that im actually glad chykie at least made the tackle

by PVogel on Sep 11, 2010 7:23 PM CDT reply actions

Great job by Wyoming. Two ballsy calls and ACS is a good player.

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:24 PM CDT reply actions

Wow.

That’s what blocking looks like. This is as embarrassed as I’ve been of a home performance since Skip Hicks ran a marathon against us during my freshmen year.

by Toadvine on Sep 11, 2010 7:24 PM CDT reply actions

chykie making the tackle after the blown coverage didn’t make a chit.

by sizzlechest on Sep 11, 2010 7:24 PM CDT reply actions

Why were Wyoming’s Wide Receivers blocking on that play? Do their coaches make them?

by Scipio Tex on Sep 11, 2010 7:25 PM CDT reply actions

Our defense is good, but not good enough to overcome our liabilities

It’s time for Vaccaro to start growing up Darren Woodson-style as the slot in our Big Nickel. I’ve seen enough. If you are stupid enough to look over and start drifting towards a man 15 yards inside you that’s already double covered, you will never be smart enough to be counted on. You just can’t go from indescribably stupid to trustworthy.

Davis and Brown need to open up the offense. When the play calling is tight and conservative, the players are tight and conservative. It’s that simple. Play with abandon, have fun. Davis, the freshman, hasn’t been around long enough to be contaminated with the GD cautiousness.

Every Newton carry takes a minute off my life. How many times must I watch the line give him a crease only to see him get two yards or less? There was a reasonably blocked off tackle play that looked for all the world like it would break for six yards or more, and Newton got two. Two! The stiff-arm notwithstanding, he goes down immediately at the first hint of contact.

But all he does is score touchdowns!

by nimrodxi on Sep 11, 2010 8:53 PM CDT reply actions

Penalties killing us this game. Coaches can’t be happy with these errors, even if the calls are questionable. On the other hand, the announcer is right that Gilbert’s throws are sometimes a little tall and lacking touch on the short routes. Not that we would run a 15 yard route on 3rd and 15.

by mashtun on Sep 11, 2010 8:54 PM CDT reply actions

It looks like the officials are calling anything they can on Texas. The call against Walters seemed pretty marginal, of course the TV shot was cut in half.

by java on Sep 11, 2010 8:54 PM CDT reply actions

We have no rhythm with personnel either. M. Davis gets hot, so we immediately call a series of plays to Kirkendoll. The first play we throw to White is a 35 yard go-route. One throw to Matthews.

That being said, we could — and should — be better than we are. Greg Davis is just killing us with his personnel switches and bizarre play sequencing.

by Art Vandelay on Sep 11, 2010 9:44 PM CDT reply actions

nobis, those odds are about as high as Acho’s IQ.

Art, I like this team, too. I love the defense and the offense. No one on the offense is getting star treatment this year, and that’s ok. They simply go out and play, but Gilbert will be outstanding this year and great before his career at Texas is over. He shows outstanding judgement for a 19 year old.

I’m hoping that by opening up the offense in the second half, Davis was showing more faith in the receivers, and they came through-particularly the young guys and Goodwin. (Hope he is ok.) It’s hard to imagine that Davis lacked confidence in Gilbert.

We have so many stars on defense this year. They can have the press. The offense will do their job, if they can stay healthy and have a little time.

by Balltastic Motivization on Sep 11, 2010 10:25 PM CDT reply actions

One of the main problems was stalling out in the red zone. We did it the first two times and that hurt the momentum. Then from the middle of the 3rd all the way to the end of the 4th the Offense had issues either with play calling, or execution, or penalties.

The defense did well, but I thought the whole second half was kind of poor. Way too many penalties. When Wyoming did have a good play it was usually due to losing outside contain or rushing the passer without discipline.

I think everything can be corrected, but I just hope it happens this coming week.

I just got home and I haven’t read this thread.

But I’m getting the feeling, like being beaten over the head with a baseball bat, that we don’t have what it takes to run the kind of offense we’re trying to run. Yeah, I know, shocking.

Fucking go in shotgun and do whatever it takes to get the ball to Goodwin, Davis, Williams, and Monroe. Give up on this stubborn fucking “WE’RE GOING TO RUN THE FUCKING BALL!!” stuff because it’s obvious we’re just clueless there. Let Gilbert be Gilbert and get the ball to our ridiculous playmakers.

I love reading the live game thread after spending a day on the 40 acres. I get to relive the 70 painful memories and the 7 good ones like they just happened.

We’re fine. We have plenty to work on, though. Their QB is legit and we did open it up a lot more on O than in the Rice game. Baby steps, but steps nonetheless.

Defense studly, Offense dudley.
The prob with O is that it is built to make 3rd and 4’s, but we can’t make em consistently…Erg
