In my draft of this, “if we can keep Brian Bosworth from making movies, humanity will win.”
But I like what you did with this, too.

Both are genius.
Of course, Pitino is really the Michelangelo of banging assistant’s wives. He set the bar so high.
Baylor is prison-raping KU. Do they miss the fat man yet? They will rue the day. “Does this man look like he had all that he can eat?”
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:12 PM CDT reply actions
If we can just stop Greg Davis from getting to the stadium, we ’ll have a chance.
by Currently in Rehab on Oct 2, 2010 2:13 PM CDT reply actions
I am ready. Ready to root for my team as if we are going to win no matter what!
by Balltastic Motivization on Oct 2, 2010 2:14 PM CDT reply actions
Naturally, I’m moving this weekend and my Comcast won’t work and we have to wait on a repairman to fix a gas leak.
Allsome.

Always loved how the King bangs Lacewell’s wife, Larry catches them, and then Barry and Larry work together at the Cowboys. If that isn’t the epitome of a bros’ before hos’ I am not sure what is.
by Davey O'Brien on Oct 2, 2010 2:20 PM CDT reply actions
I would have titled this thread, “Texas-OU Open Wound Thread.”
by texoz on Oct 2, 2010 2:21 PM CDT reply actions
Wow, the Jawhawks are getting fucking mauled by Baylor.
by Canuck Horn on Oct 2, 2010 2:22 PM CDT reply actions
I had TimeWarner preemptively reset my cable box twice today and send those magic “signals.”
Not my first rodeo.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 2:22 PM CDT reply actions
I thought we were going to lose against UCLA. I think we’re going to win today. I am very optimistic. The kind of publicity this team got over the past week can cause even a putrid offense to gel. That’s what I expect.
Of course, I expect to see some WildHorn early too.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:26 PM CDT reply actions
Not a good sign when both sides are chanting, “You suck more.”
by Barefoot barbarians through the gates on Oct 2, 2010 2:28 PM CDT reply actions
YES! I’ve got the Wisconsin and VA Tech games in HD in Atlanta. Good thing I have Game Plan.
by mookiepatookis on Oct 2, 2010 2:32 PM CDT reply actions
It’s going to suck for Nkwopara when they won’t allow him on any of the rides after the game.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:33 PM CDT reply actions
We didn’t look exactly gangsta comin down the ramp.
by 2xHorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:34 PM CDT reply actions
I’m dropping tequila shots for every snap we take in the wildhorn.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 2:35 PM CDT reply actions
They are concerned, justifiably, with our team speed.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:40 PM CDT reply actions
ABC/ESPN with their usual great replay work on the personal foul.
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:41 PM CDT reply actions
Sigh, this drive is entirely comprised of penalties.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:42 PM CDT reply actions
Looks like the Big 12 front office has learned from the SEC and Big Ten, use the refs to protect the undefeated team. Only 2 slots in Bullshit Championship System.
by Sheesh on Oct 2, 2010 2:42 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah, 25 yards in penalties = bad field position for the offense, even if we get a stop here.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:43 PM CDT reply actions
I wouldn’t want to be Will Muschamp right now. Everyone knows Mack Brown won’t accept this sort of crap from his defense.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 2:44 PM CDT reply actions
Frustrating drive. They should have been punting from deep. Now they’re gaining confidence and running our D around. Stupid fucking penalties, killing us this season.
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:44 PM CDT reply actions
Good job with the hurry-up, really confused assignments. Damn.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:46 PM CDT reply actions
Start benching people with these fucking ridiculous penalities. Maybe they’ll get the message
by CA_longhorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:46 PM CDT reply actions
It ain’t even close to over.
But that was a horrible start for our vaunted defense.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:46 PM CDT reply actions
Is this the dumbest team in the Mack Brown era?
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:47 PM CDT reply actions
It’s sure hard to be ready for that hurry-up offense. It’s not like OU’s ever run it before. Or like we see it in practice.
by HelmetBoy on Oct 2, 2010 2:47 PM CDT reply actions
Explain to me, of ye Gods of football knowledge, why Earnest was on the field for the last 6 plays of that drive. Also, how do you get caught out like that.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:47 PM CDT reply actions
We started that so well then PISSED it away. That drive was entirely on the players, can’t blame the coaches for that one.
by CA_longhorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:48 PM CDT reply actions
Hey, no worries. This team is perfectly built to play from behind.
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:48 PM CDT reply actions
Two penalties and no poise against the hurry-up. Frustrating.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:49 PM CDT reply actions
Toadvine, I’m wondering why we don’t have Big Nickel myself. Not that that drive was on Earnest
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:49 PM CDT reply actions
“Hey, no worries. This team is perfectly built to take it from behind.”
Fixed it.
by texoz on Oct 2, 2010 2:49 PM CDT reply actions
Let’s see what we have up our sleeves. EMpty backfield.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:50 PM CDT reply actions
and we open up throwing short of both sticks.
allsome.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
NR,
Well, that’s pretty much what I’m getting at. Not slighting him personally, but that was a strange personnel set that we got stuck with through that hurry-up.
OU just out-schemed us on the drive.
And, for the 10th time this season, we killed ourselves with indiscipline.
I’m so frustrated. That play was exactly what we all knew it would be.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
Well, that opening play surprised me.
Venables will blitz the shit out of this empty set
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
If you had swing pass for -2 to Kirkendoll in the guess the first play contest, you win!
by CS on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
I see GD’s already digging deep into his bag of tricks.
by HelmetBoy on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
Gee, a screen on the first offensive play, who would have thought (and on the second).
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
Two swing passes to Kirkendoll.
I’m signing off now. I just have nothing to say.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:51 PM CDT reply actions
God damit, I am so fucking tired of the sideline to sideline bullshit. GROW SOME FUCKING BALLS.
by CA_longhorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions
Any decent hit will drop SMith. I love his presence in the 5-wide, btw. And by that I mean I absolutely don’t.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions
Kirkendoll sideways for -2
Kirkendoll sideways for -2
Greg Smith checkdown for not nearly enough
Have I seen this before?
by CS on Oct 2, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions
2 plays, 2 horizontal negative passes. Then a Greg Smith check down short of the sticks.
GD is personally fucking with me at this point. There is no other explanation.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions
I lied. Because then GG dumped it off to Greg Smith.
I just don’t know. I mean, I have no idea how this happens.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions
Nice punt. I think John Gold’s going to have a lot of opportunities to shine today.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:53 PM CDT reply actions
And we find the tight end 10 yards short of the sticks on 3rd down!
Greg Davis gives a thumbs up.
by EggNog on Oct 2, 2010 2:53 PM CDT reply actions
Greg Davis is just fucking with us at this point
by Misterloki on Oct 2, 2010 2:53 PM CDT reply actions
Kirkendoll would’ve had to beat a couple Sooners in the open field just to make it back to the line of scrimmage on those passes. Brilliant play calling.
And then the obligatory Greg Smith checkdown on 3rd and long.
by Puedlfor on Oct 2, 2010 2:54 PM CDT reply actions
Scipio, we gotta make sure they are defending those screens the way we think they will, so that we can get them with the pump fake screen deep pass later in the game. Gotta make sure they defend it that way on both sides, also.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:54 PM CDT reply actions
i don’t know whether to laugh or cry…it’s like GDGD was reading this blog all week and decided he was really going to show us that his O can work. it’s fucking crazy. two swing passes to kirkendoll and a 4 yd pass on 3rd and 13. is it wrong to wish a painful death on someone.
by Mr. Orange on Oct 2, 2010 2:54 PM CDT reply actions
It’s obvious our coaching staff does not understand the problem. When the players figure that out, this season is going to spiral out of control.
by nimrodxi on Oct 2, 2010 2:54 PM CDT reply actions
we get cornholed by troop beverly hills and this is how we respond? glad i bought extra alcohol.
by ipahorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
It seems that Greg spent the entire offseason playing golf. He sees -4 in the total yardage category after 2 plays and thinks he’s on his way to being Tiger Woods.
by Garry Crowbar on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
ah, it’s the ol’ “give up a long ass drive and then come back with a 3 and out” approach – we’ve got em just where we want em…
by jon on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
Greg thumbs his nose at you — and clearly doesn’t read Scipio, as he should!
by Disgusted in DC on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
nimrodxi, I think the players figured that out in the 2nd half against UCLA.
by EggNog on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
OU is playing deep. We’re passing the ball short to make them run further to tackle our receivers in the backfield, and thus wear them down. It’s genius.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
Making Landry Jones’ Heisman campaign for him…..
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
Since rallies are quite in vogue these days, can we please have a rally against Greg Davis? I will donate money to the cause. At least fund a billboard close to campus like the ND alum did against Weis.
by Dale on Oct 2, 2010 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
That was absolutely the worst play-calling imaginable.
And it doesn’t help that our defense put us in a 7-0 hole.
Someone with some fire in them needs to peel the helmets back off of these boys and peer deep into their fucking souls to see if they want to play football today.
Uncle Rico looks slick on those slants. And Muschamp needs to get his shit together.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
Muschamp has to take it easy on the calls and let them play.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
Just rewound and watched the personal foul on Keenan. Shoved a lineman from behind – not too hard – while ball still in play. Did not get his money’s worth.
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
That odd front on 3rd and short is asinine. Second time we’ve done it and it’s an easy conversion.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:57 PM CDT reply actions
i don’t want to be too negative here, but if ou scores here i may just mail it in. i really cant take an entire afternoon of this shit. it’s too nice of a day and i get too pissed off.
by Mr. Orange on Oct 2, 2010 2:57 PM CDT reply actions
Wow. We might be on our way to Mack’s worst OU loss.
That’s saying a LOT.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:58 PM CDT reply actions
this is going to get nasty unless we get a turnover
by wtf242 on Oct 2, 2010 2:58 PM CDT reply actions
They’re killing us with the up-tempo, not like we should have been prepared for that, they’ve only been running it for 3 or 4 years.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 2:58 PM CDT reply actions
Everyone is quick to shit on Davis. But Muschamp is getting worked right now.
Also, OU is showing why a fullback is valuable.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
We’re getting absolutely worked right now. This looks disgustingly similar to 2000 and 2003. If OU punches this in, the game is over.
by CS on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
This is going to be a replay of 2000 and 2003.
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
Jesus. 3rd and 6 and they convert running off tackle.
Totally unprepared for this tempo.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
Might want to take a TO on defense and get it together…
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
Total meltdown on both sides of the ball. The word is out: Texas has no defensive tackles.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions
Murray is playing really well, where are Randall’s teammates?
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 3:00 PM CDT reply actions
We cannot stop a power running game. Or a short passing game. Or a hurry-up.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 3:00 PM CDT reply actions
I for one welcome our three game losing streak.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 3:00 PM CDT reply actions
this is going to be an epic buttfucking. 3-3 here we come.
by 2xHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
Torbush.
Not even 10 minutes into it, and this one’s over.
Wow.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
Good coverage just exceptional pitch and catch…..We may be on our way to a 5 loss season….
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
Turn out the liiiiights the party is oooveeeer…
by Currently in Rehab on Oct 2, 2010 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
Undefendable, if you aren’t looking for the ball.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
This feels so much like Bob Stoops first year at OU when they came out and just walloped us. They’ve game planned this to perfection.
by Greg Davis is a moron on Oct 2, 2010 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
Would anyone like to predict the next 3 plays before we punt again?
by Currently in Rehab on Oct 2, 2010 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
Defense must be tired. That is it. I forgot one thing from my first remark. Fuck will muschamp.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
If we come our running that same sideline to sideline garbage I’m done. I refuse to watch a 100+ point blowout. If Mack refuses to change things up then he deserves to be on the hotseat too.
by CA_longhorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah, but still a great catch. The kind we’ve had only one of all year.\
We came out stagnant and flat on both sides of the ball. Which seems impossible after last week. And yet, there it is.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 3:03 PM CDT reply actions
Maybe Muschamp said “You think that was bad defense, I’ll show you bad defense.” and then prepared the defense all week the same way GD prepares the offense.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:04 PM CDT reply actions
Have not given up on a game in years, but since the defense did I will not subject my kids to the language I cannot control. Nice day for the zoo.
by BCH on Oct 2, 2010 3:05 PM CDT reply actions
We will come out and try and establish the run!
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:08 PM CDT reply actions
The defense is playing with zero composure.
A little complexity and tempo and they’re mailing it in. I don’t get it.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:12 PM CDT reply actions
Landry Jones is giving us a smooth butt fucking. Landry Jones.
by Woody Bombay on Oct 2, 2010 3:15 PM CDT reply actions
Wow, if he’s in then they are getting all of the breaks they need to make this very ugly.
I do ask, why the heck would they call that play when they’ve been blowing us off the ball all game?
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:16 PM CDT reply actions
Just to point out, GD just called the same exact call that spring Monroe on the TD. I kind of thought we’d never see it again, but alas, GD surprised me!
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:20 PM CDT reply actions
Would be nice to spot them 14 points and come back and beat them (not predicting it, just saying would be nice and demoralizing for them).
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:21 PM CDT reply actions
Wasn’t exactly the same, on the TD run they flowed everyone, including DJ to the left. On the one before the end of the quarter he ran between the tackles.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:23 PM CDT reply actions
Gilbert can make throws Colt couldn’t. Like way down field out of bounds.
by E. Orr on Oct 2, 2010 3:23 PM CDT reply actions
That’s the one deep ball per quarter I wanted to see. 3rd and 10 here.
Be smart.
Get rid of the ball Garrett, but good job recovering your own fumble. Nice whiff Britt.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:24 PM CDT reply actions
Glad we had the break between quarters as the offense rewarded the defensive stop with another 3 and out.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:25 PM CDT reply actions
I love how they keep talking about how ineffective the defense has been, but nothing about the offense.
by BornOrange on Oct 2, 2010 3:26 PM CDT reply actions
D is getting back its composure.
Good deal.
Nice job by Earnest on 1st down.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:26 PM CDT reply actions
OU’s occasional brain farts on O are really the only things stopping them so far.
by Woody Bombay on Oct 2, 2010 3:27 PM CDT reply actions
Time for the O to put together a nice drive. Give the D a rest, put some points on the board.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:28 PM CDT reply actions
If we can go get points of any kind on offense here, we’re back in business.
Can’t go 3 and out.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:28 PM CDT reply actions
“OU’s occasional brain farts on O are really the only things stopping them so far.”
My thoughts exactly. We need to capitalize here. I don’t think we have to score, but we have to flip the field, minimum three first downs, and pin them inside the 20.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:29 PM CDT reply actions
How sad is it that I am hoping our offense can get a minimum of three first downs, keep control of the ball, and then punt?
Thanks, GD!
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Run Monroe sideways to the short side of the field, not gonna work.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Does any offense specialize in losing yardage more than Texas?
by naija on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Time for a new running play, Greg. They’ve got that one figured out.
by spit and tears on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Wow. That stat was insane. 60 yards on one play. 13 on the other 9.
Make that 10 on the other 10.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
That’s not going to work everythime Greg. It’s not a base play.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Take away Monroe’s run, and the offense is averaging 1.0 YPP.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:31 PM CDT reply actions
Jesus, throw it to the sticks just once, please.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:31 PM CDT reply actions
Exactly the series we didn’t need.
Motherfucker.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
And now we’re back to dink and dunk passing.
Well, that and Mitchell whiffing blocks.
Hopefully the defense has reorganized a bit.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
why do we ALWAYS throw it short on 3rd down.. ugh
by wtf242 on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
Hey, servers let me back in…..Gold shanks it….
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
Goddamnit, motherfucker. Call a play that can get a first down. And now a crappy punt. Fuck it.
by Blueshorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
Ugh.
Well, it looks like Greg Davis has already had his one savant moment for the game. It’s back to idiot mode.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:32 PM CDT reply actions
We’re putting too much pressure on our defense, who hasn’t been as sharp or good as we’ve needed them to be today…..No TO’s is good though…
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:33 PM CDT reply actions
The offense flipped the field, but not quite how we wanted.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:33 PM CDT reply actions
Our best hope is hanging around and wearing them out, with them getting exhausted from running so many plays.
by Nickel Rover on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
Their shanked punt bounces and rolls for an extra 15 yards. Our shanked punt goes straight out of bounds. Just not going to be our day.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
This OU defense is giving up 400+ yards a game. Mind blowing.
by NY Horn on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
The defense started the game shitting the bed, the offense made a play, then roles were promptly reversed.
The D has two consecutive 3 and outs. Another would be huge here.
If I’m Wilson, I get back to running the ball.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
So it looks like our offense will be side to side, hoping for another random confluence of luck to allow Monroe to break another long run.
by CS on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
Hey. You have to like what Gilbert did there. Instead of going for the first down, he gave Gold the opportunity to shank a punt.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:34 PM CDT reply actions
Can’t wait to see how GD blames his players after this.
Let Garrett grow up, Greg. Take off the fuckin’ training wheels. Run plays that have a chance to succeed.
by spit and tears on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
Same shit from Davis for years and years.
Uninspired to start the game, unprepared and out hustled.
It truly is a RECURRING NIGHTMARE.
by Woody Bombay on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
Answer to trivia is Garrett Gilbert’s dad, they mentioned it last week on the same network.
by tdwalsh on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
Our tackling has really slipped this year…
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
I wonder what we’re going to start our next series with…moron in the booth.
by Bobby_Batronic on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
Great defense. 3 guys miss him stonecold in the backfield
by naija on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
GALE GILBERT! And he lost all five!!!!
Do I win a BC tote bag?
Great tackling there, BTW.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
Ouch. The D is playing touch football. That’s old school Mackovickian.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:35 PM CDT reply actions
That was another nice catch.
Thank God for the pass interference.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 3:36 PM CDT reply actions
Great catch…..Penalty brings it back…..Thank God.
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:36 PM CDT reply actions
My unborn child is hearing “MOTHERFUCKER” a lot. Is that good for math and/or spatial skills?
Zebras saved us there.
by spit and tears on Oct 2, 2010 3:36 PM CDT reply actions
Brinnnnnnng it back. And where is the safety?
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 3:36 PM CDT reply actions
Glad we gave up 9 yards without any pressure or coverage….Outstanding…
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:37 PM CDT reply actions
And now the refs will fuck us, too?
Wow was that a terrible call.
by Woody Bombay on Oct 2, 2010 3:38 PM CDT reply actions
Ha, ha, ha…..2 guys in the pattern….Still completed.
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:39 PM CDT reply actions
Unreal. Fucking holding on Murray. Call that shit, refs. Fuck.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:39 PM CDT reply actions
Welp, looks like we’re close to 21-7. Even their mistakes turn out well. Goddamnit.
by spit and tears on Oct 2, 2010 3:39 PM CDT reply actions
kind of hard for them to replay the play when OU is running plays every 5 seconds
by wtf242 on Oct 2, 2010 3:40 PM CDT reply actions
Somebody needs to make a huge play. [stating the obvious]
by naija on Oct 2, 2010 3:40 PM CDT reply actions
Offensive has been bad…..defense has been worse…
by Patrick Bateman on Oct 2, 2010 3:40 PM CDT reply actions
Glad ABC got me back in time to see that.
And one other thing, can someone teach OU ANOTHER FUCKING SONG?
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 3:41 PM CDT reply actions
Wow. I want to see a replay on that PI call. Looked like horseshit to me. Regardless, penalties are killing us. Without the three big calls on the D, this is a 7-7 game.
by BrickHorn on Oct 2, 2010 3:41 PM CDT reply actions
Mark Richt will enjoy a quiet, peaceful scotch tonight.
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 3:42 PM CDT reply actions
to be fair OU’s offense has been amazing. Landry hasn’t thrown a bad pass and the receivers are are making unbelievable catches.

Very little discipline on defense. Can’t even line straight. Offense looks pathetic ex the DJ Monroe run. Mack needs to grab his balls right now before this gets out of control. No more sideways bullshit, ram is down their goddamn throat! Do something besides the -3 yard sideways runs.

At this point I hope we lose every remaining game this year. With GDGD we aren’t going to get near another nat’l title game, hell probably not even another elusive conference title, unless recruiting lightning strikes a third time (defying all statistical probabilities.) Going to take incredible heat to get him out of here.
Otherwise Mack will return to form with nice seasons but always a dumb choke to deny us the conference title for the umpteenth time. Overhyped mediocrity as we descend back to where the program was before Mack arrived. This program will spend a decade wandering in the wilderness because Mack puts his friendship ahead of the program.

Everything has been quick passing for OU. I don’t think L Jones is handing even the smallest amt of pressure very well. The 29 yder at the end of the first half was a missed opportunity of our DLine to get pressure.
On offense, yrds are too hard to come by for this offense to have this many penalties and negative yds on runs and freakin passes. Especially on first freaking down.
Gilbert seems a bit better in the pocket but not sure that will translate into anything. He going to have to hit passes btw the backers and the safeties, you know, if we actually ran plays there.

The problem is that there are too many problems. Also, no answers.
The two positives: Fozzy and DJ look good.
Our special teams continues to be terrible. Our defense is being systematically worked and committing penalties. Also, when we set up for run we get burned on the pass. When we set up for the pass they kill us with direct runs and quick snap runs.
On offense, well, it sure looks like no one is getting any separation at all. And our O-line is getting killed. And, again, committing stupid penalties.

Happy feet are a Texas QB standby because our receivers are usually covered in their initial routes. Colt did the same.
The difference is that Gilbert can’t improvise, move the chains with his feet, or bust runs to force a spy and loosen up coverages.
All of our success under GD is dependent on improvisation.

scip, hot routes are upper division courses, post-doc stuff.
by BurntEndz on Oct 2, 2010 5:12 PM CDT reply actions
So, here’s a real question. Do we only throw short because: (1) our receivers suck and can’t get open once they are covered; (2) our o-line sucks and can’t give GG time; (3) we have no running game, so teams take away the deep route in the hope that multiple throws will lead to turnovers; (4) Davis is an idiot; or (5) Gilbert can’t be trusted not to throw picks?
I should add: (6) all of the above.
What is it?
by Toadvine on Oct 2, 2010 5:13 PM CDT reply actions
mashtun -
And as importantly, teams deliberately leave that guy uncovered as a lure and use the extra defender to double our WRs outside. There’s no place to go. And if a receiver does break open, it’s late and Gilbert is already off of his progression.
It’s not a game of “can I find one WR open at any time somewhere on the field” that our fans like to play.
It’s bang-bang. And when Gilbert is ready to throw in rhythm, those WRs are a blanketed.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 5:13 PM CDT reply actions
That was a hold on the last play of the 3rd quarter, the D lineman that Murray ran right by was obviously being held.

by spit and tears on Oct 2, 2010 5:13 PM CDT reply actions

EVERY player AND coach on the offense must be reviewed during the bye week. I have never seen a TEXAS offense with so many 3 and outs. We look afraid of the defense in every aspect of our offense. Greg Davis must go, “Pussy” McWhorter must go, and then we can start reviewing which players should be starting.

BrickHorn: That’s the worst part. The defense has been hit and miss today but did play well generally in the second quarter and most of the second half. However, Mack will gloss over the offensive ineptitude (he may even laud it for taking care of the football) and concentrate his ire on the defense. Incredible, but you know it’s coming.
The only think separating this loss from 2000-2004 is the apparent lack of wind in Dallas today.

It’s a damned shame. The D has played a fairly solid game, except for 3 or 4 terribly stupid penalties.
But, man, I don’t know what games we can win with this offense. They’re just atrocious. Nebraska’s going to skullfuck us.

Scip, so the flaw is in the general scheme that allows the O to be shut down like that on third down? What do we do to free up the receivers? Is it not having a tight end outlet at all and sending him farther downfield? What’s the answer to keep from being shut down?

I think Keith Stone is going to hook up with her. Gut feeling.
by Scipio Tex on Oct 2, 2010 5:24 PM CDT reply actions
I mean, I tend to not really fault true freshmen. They make mistakes. But for the D to be playing as kick-ass as they have been, to have this many drive-extending penalties is ridiculous.

Toad – I know. But it’s due to stupidity on penalties. And some bad calls, frankly. That PI was horrible.

3. Jeffcoat personal foul.

Not spending all of your time in 3rd and 11 is a good start.
The second thing would be to run routes that actually challenge the defense and force safeties to make quick decisions.
A bunch of guys drifting on settle stop routes at half jogs two yards shy of the sticks doesn’t really challenge a defense.
The route tree exists for a reason.

We didn’t deserve to win it. Didn’t play well enough offensively. Can’t score in the red zone. I don’t blame E Jones for going for the scoop and score. We weren’t getting without our O. Diminished expectations holla!

Yep, Mack is going to blame the defense on this one, no doubt.
He is, however, not entirely wrong. The offense was horrific, but only had one meaningless turnover, and sprinkled in a few big plays, which is exactly what the Muschamp-driven offense is seeking.
Expect more of this, not less, going forward. This is not making the football good.
by uthookem on Oct 2, 2010 6:22 PM CDT reply actions
Oh, and what is the OU offensive total if you add our defensive penalties? And how many first downs did OU get on penalties? I’m sure Mack will have the details.

I’m a card-carrying homer for Muschamp and the D. But defensive mistakes at critical times killed us, today. That’s just the truth. Offense sucked ass, as usual. But we could have won that game if we’d played smart. We did not.
by Blueshorn on Oct 2, 2010 6:28 PM CDT reply actions
Oh, and Billy, I’ll complain about the defense. Those first two touchdowns DID cost us the game as much as anything else did. And those 4 yards per play demonstrate the length of OU’s drives and its time of possession.
The defense played better than the offense, but it sure didn’t play well.

I should amend—I think complaining about the D is justified given the first quarter, and their dumb penalties which turned 3.9 ypp by OU into a W. But I don’t see systemic problems with the D like the O.

by NY Horn on Oct 2, 2010 6:37 PM CDT reply actions
Muschamp will be the fall guy for this game, for sure. The MB presser last week was quite revealing in how much time MB spent ranting about the weak 2nd half defense, as if it mattered at that point (which it didnt). It appears to me that MB is getting mighty defensive, and having a “coach in waiting” is sure to make the dynamic pretty toxic.
That being said, the D should take its share of the blame for this game. Especially the safeties (I didnt watch every play, but they didnt look very involved when I did watch).
There was no O. There were 2 legitimate big plays. The rest was the sideways/backwards stuff. It has always really surprised me about GD over the years how much negative yardage he is willing to take, even on successive plays. As if he doesnt see any difference between 3rd and 6 and 3rd and 14.
Whatever. The season will be worth watching just to see if GG develops, if we find any receivers with a presence, watching Jeffcoat and KR. Even if we now drop out of the top 25 on Monday. Think about that.
by NYHorn on Oct 2, 2010 6:39 PM CDT reply actions
I think there is a systemic problem in the penalties the D commits which extend drives – that is something that’s been happening all season long. That is a dark spot on a generally very good defense.
But the offense is a wasteland. A total barren wasteland. So we can’t win these kind of games with just a very good defense with a a few black marks.
by Puedlfor on Oct 2, 2010 6:39 PM CDT reply actions
Our wretched, abysmal, moribund, criminally-mean Offense actually exceeded expectations.
Our much-praised, overrated D (LBs and DEs excepted) did not.
To be clear, I’m not praising our offense. They sucked at loud. As we knew they would. But they did actually play better than I thought they would.
Our D lost this game with those penalties.
We had two 1st and goals we made into FGs. They had two failed 3rd down conversions we made into TDs.
Mack has some serious, serious work to do if he’s going to avoid his first 3-game losing streak here.
That having been said, I’d trade the loss today for a win in Bugaha in a heartbeat.

Yeah, every single facet of this team sucked today. Kick coverage, punt returning, kickoff returning, Gold’s shanked punt, pass rush, linebacker and safety coverage, zone coverage, pass blocking, route running, hands on catches, Gilbert continues to throw erratically (slow down, he made some nice throws too — but he rifled a bunch over people), TE play, play calling, play calling, play calling, personnel sets, defensive scheming (never caught up with the no-huddle in the first half), kickoffs (that attempt at trickery on the no-onsides kick thing sucked a big one), and discipline.

A couple of comments while I’m sober.
I counted (5) third downs where we stopped the Sooners and a penalty gave them a first down. I can’t remember a Texas/OU game where 90% of the calls went against one team. One team was allowed to hit after the whistle, one team wasn’t. One team had WR’s who held on the edge on running plays and weren’t called, one team had textbook blocking on the edge on a long pass and run and that was called a hold. In most games the bad calls even out, in this game they didn’t. Not making excuses, just facts as I see them.
Why on 4th and goal when we are down 11 do we go for the field goal? Is it easier to go 70 yards with no timeouts for 8 points, or easier to go 70 yards with no timeouts for 3 points? I give up on making excuses for Mack & Co. in terms of game planning and game strategy. My nine year old would kick the crap out of Mack and G Davis in Stratego.
Also, I’m on board with Scipio on the check downs. Clearly Gilbert is doing what he is told, and it was interesting watching the TV shots of Gale Gilbert getting frustrated. Guaranteed he was frustrated with G Davis.
by Art Vandelay on Oct 2, 2010 6:49 PM CDT reply actions
The primary issue we have to grapple with is that we have actual expectations for the defense. Thus, if they badly underperform for a stretch – like the two early drives, bullshit penalties or not – we are badly disappointed. We didn’t adjust to tempo early and we can’t spot a 14-0 lead as we wait to get things in order. Was Muschamp unaware that OU runs hurry up?
No one is disappointed when the offense shits the bed because we’ve all accepted their intrinsic awfulness. We expect nothing of them.
So we leave the game oddly encouraged by the offense for putting up 20 points against a terrible OU defense and let down by the D we thought we could count on completely.

I will not however complain about the defense. Not that they’re not somewhat responsible and have work to do, but it’s clearly the offense holding this team back. That is obviously not news, but one thing I think we’ve overlooked is our lack of offensive identity. I’m not the first to say it but our offensive woes go beyond poor play calling, bad execution, lack of playmakers, and inconsistency. The fact that we spent an entire offseason and fall camp practicing an offense that we’ve seemingly already abandoned can’t be underestimated. That doesn’t excuse or solve problems such as constant check downs or false starts, but until we find and install an offense catering to Gilbert’s talents (like the zone read with Vince and short passing game with Colt) we’re going to consistently underachieve. And that is not on the defense, it’s neither fair nor realistic to expect them to hold every opponent under 300 yards and 14 points. They’re definitely not perfect as the penalties prove, but they could be the ‘00 Ravens and we’ll still lose games until we know what we’re doing on offense.
And Scipio, you’re right on as usual. Despite the disappointment of the season thus far, you’re entertaining analysis and expertise go a long way in making this a unique website for a unique fan base. Thanks for everything and keep it up.

The defense gave up 21 point quick. The offense did not play well but giving up 21 points will get you beat agains anyone. There is no excuse. Expectations are not the issue. The defense put the team in a 2 score hole and the onc that was cut to one score gave up another TD drive. That was game.
The offense was poor. It was but the offense didn’t put the team in a hole. The defense did. I don’t know how anyone can give any part of the team a break. Can’t we just say, Texas stunk and be done with it?

by Savage Henry on Oct 2, 2010 7:04 PM CDT reply actions
That’s the problem with the defense today. OU came down the field on us on the first drive (with the help of 25 yards of penalties) and scored. Then we ran our normal start of game fear-based negative offense. Then OU marched down the field again and scored again. 14-0 holes in the first quarter. So yeah, I think this is the second game in a row where the defense has shown some real, legitimate problems. And they need to be addressed.
The offense is basically hopeless, and I agree with Scipio about basement level expectations for that group. Gilbert looks really average. I have no idea why Greg Smith or Barrett Matthews are on the field on 3rd and long. They give you no chance to succeed. We’ve abandoned Cody Johnson, unfairly I think. Fozzy is showing signs of being a good back. But otherwise, Kirkendoll is still Kirkendoll (although right now he’s our best receiver — chew on that shit sandwich for a minute). I think the offense is hopeless this year.

Tough loss in that a we gave it away as much as OU won it. Good for them, they played to win and we do what we usually do and try to make it a game in the 4th. The offense is tough to watch, but basically our defense and special teams aren’t as good as their press coming into the season. We’re a bit soft up the middle and our secondary hasn’t been as good as we’ve hoped. We really miss Houston and Sergio physicalness. Beyond that, we are a poorly coached team who kills themselves with TO’s and bad penalties. We’ll get better mainly b/c Gilbert will get much better as he gains experience but it’s tough to watch……Better times. I think McWhorter and maybe Kennedy are gone….To think we start 3 seniors and a junior on the line this year…..Sheesh.
Only good thing is the last couple of games have taken some luster off Muschamp. Georgia could also look at Kirby Smart especially if Bama gets to another Championship. I know there may be some hard feelings from last year, but I doubt that much especially with another regime in charge.

I’m in an argumentative mood so I’ll go ahead and play devil’s advocate (I also strangely want to see 1000 comments)…
I think this team is a lot closer to clicking than we give them credit for. Not that I expect them to roll out in 2 weeks and beat Nebraska but if we can somehow find that offensive identity as we have in years past we can return to playing competent football and compete nationally next year and onward. That is obviously a huge if but considering the growing pains we experienced with VY and Colt before developing a system around them, this team should have been expected to endure their own as well. It’s widely recognized that the most valuable position in all of sports is quarterback (unless you’re Bama) and I think many of our problems were exacerbated by attempting to develop a system with seemingly little regard to our QB and his strengths. We’re now having to deal with the results of that decision BUT… if we continue to place more responsibility on Gilbert and open things up more for him I think we’ll get it eventually. There’s definitely more to it than just that (mental mistakes, developing consistency, etc.) but given Greg Davis’ track record and tendencies, I’m optimistic we figure it out eventually and return to championship form next year.
Eeesh, that was harder than expected. To be honest, I’ve never had so little faith in our team and coaching staff as I do now. Why is it that even to us posters the problems seem clear as day and the solutions achievable with some changes? Is our staff that blind?!
by add665 on Oct 2, 2010 7:37 PM CDT reply actions
We are really missing our leaders from last year. I tried to explain the loss that Colt was in the NG and non UT fans don’t get it. Similarly, losing Sergio and Lamar and Earl is a loss we haven’t accounted for enough yet. Our defense has not risen up yet and we don’t quite have the leaders on that side of the ball anymore. Two of our best d players have given away TDs on punts.

I have a bit more confidence in the offense after watching either GD find his balls or Gilbert stepping up in the 4Q. Either way, Mack needs to tell Greg to stop with the sideways and backwards offense that kills every first half. I can’t even remember the last time we came out with an explosive first half that was solely due to the offense. Hard to win games when you’re down 14-0 or 21-0 after the first quarter.

This game is the case study for one of the most insane and asinine OCs ever. Even my wife, who is an eternal optimist and keeps me in line during games, gave up watching in the 1st quarter. Her exact quote was, with hopeless exasperation, “I don’t know why they did that. It doesn’t make any sense.” I failed in trying to explain to her how it feels to feel like that over and over again. And she is new to football. But even someone new to watching the sport understands that throwing for negative yards is stupid.
I don’t know if I want to let Greg Davis torture me anymore. I would have thought that Mack had learned through the Vince and Colt years, but I am afraid we have regressed to 2002. Infuriating, not unpredictable, but not necessary either. But that is my rant for tonight and this season. Now I will go back to our depth chart and recruiting lists and dream about how I would design killer offenses with the weapons at my disposal.

If anyone else doesn’t see the writing on the wall for Muschamp to be on his way to Georgia, I guarantee that the post game presser will guarantee it. Because Mack Brown is going to credit the offense for a good game that they didn’t play, and he’ll put the blame for the loss on a defense that doesn’t entirely deserve it. Combine those two things, and Muschamp won’t be willing to wait in Mack Brown’s shadow for his shot. He’ll be the head coach at Georgia within 90 days.

I have always thought that the odds of Muschamp actually ending up the head coach at Texas was 70-30 against.
I have assumed the deal was made to give us stability at the DC position for longer than two years. Mack was willing to give Muschamp a great financial deal and tutoring on the depth of obligations for being a head coach, while Muschamp thought this was a really good place to wait for a dream SEC job to open up — with the outside possibility that Texas would open first.

Mark Richt has a HUGE buyout (14-15 million) if he were to get canned this offseason. He’s well loved by the UGA administration, his best player has been off the field for the first part of the season and he’s the best coach UGA has had in a long time. I think he gets a pass this offseason. Not sure Muschamp would even get offered the job if Richt gets the ax. I’ve heard they want head coaching experience (i.e. Chris Petersen, Jim Harbaugh, maybe even Kirby Smart). It’s only natural for folks to overanalyze the Muschamp situation as Georgia continues to struggle.

I’m really not sure which Uinversity of Texas is dumber. The 2009-2010 Basketball team or this Football team. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes….!

Texas WR turned RB D.J. Monroe on why he didn’t play much vs. the Sooners after a 60-yard TD run: “I don’t know the plays.”
by Savage Henry on Oct 2, 2010 9:15 PM CDT reply actions
Not knowing the plays is probably an advantage in this offense.

When was the last time ISU and Baylor won a Big 12 game on the same day?

i don’t know. let me see if the answer is at the bottom of my next beer.

October 30th, 2004. Iowa State beat Kansas 13-7, and Baylor hilariously beat Texas A&M 35-34.

Nice to see you guys shit the bed after laughing at us for playing fucktard in Stillwater. Guess both of us have a lot of fail going on right now. We are gonna get reamed next week then you boys will get cornholed the week that follows. At least I’ll be sitting in a nice club seat drinking a margarita instead for freezing my nuts off in Lincoln.
Welcome to our world ! ( BTW your offense still sucks.)

Georgia screws up the handoff, and Colorado has the ball back with less than two minutes to go, up by two.

Aggie Lurking,
Go celebrate on your own blog. Don’t come over here and verify all the stereotypes that is the aggie fan base.

Mack needs to hang it up and we need to hire Harbaugh. Big money donors, make this happen, please.

Iowa St had 52 pts and 251 yards rushing against Tech. Puts our Lubbock performance in perspective, no?
by Bobby Jack Akina on Oct 2, 2010 9:49 PM CDT reply actions
Don’t look know, but everybody’s dream head coach and heisman QB just lost Q3 14-0 and Oregon has the ball in Cardinal territory.
Harbaugh needs better halftime adjustments and should spend a little time with the D.
by horninexile on Oct 2, 2010 9:56 PM CDT reply actions
Fuck, honestly I’d take either coach. Anything over these brainless dipshits we have now.
by NY Horn on Oct 2, 2010 10:02 PM CDT reply actions
Anyone with a brain could coach our players to 35 points.
by Savage Henry on Oct 2, 2010 10:07 PM CDT reply actions
Harbaugh and Luck got shut out in the 2nd half and outscored 21-0.
They led 21-3 after Q1, and were outscored 42-10 in the final 3.

not sure if this webiste has the rule about personal attacks…you know, ala hornfans back in the day?
anyways, some of y’all are absolute delusional idiots who are bandwagoners for myopic internet fodder that treads anywhere near questioning greg davis on any level.
get rid of mack brown? seriously? we played in the MNC game — LAST YEAR. I guess there was probably some dipshit that wanted to get rid of Royal in 1966 too.
can’t believe that there are still some Muschamp dick suckers on board. give it up. rewatch the 1st half of the game. at least hold him accountable as you do Davis.
questioning why williams is fielding punts? really? deion sanders anyone? vasher? about a billion others?
love this logic about…“oh shit, now MB can just blame it on the mistakes.” yeah, probably because if our D/ST’s hadn’t made so many fucking mistakes we win the game. would hate for him to blame the mistakes.

Too much, there’s too much fucking perspective now.

We’ve long recognized that the Brown and Davis regime cannot win without a huge edge in talent. On those rare years where we are able to out talent folks and have a Heisman contender at QB, we have a shot. Otherwise, it’s another year with no championships. 2/13.

David St. Hubbins – perhaps Jeanine could consult the Zodiac to help us find a new direction…perhaps new uniforms for the Nebraska game.

Holy shit, I only read the last 30 posts or so. What a clusterfuck. Ags coming over here to brag is, well, pitiful.
by nordberg on Oct 2, 2010 11:31 PM CDT reply actions
Absolutely unbefuckinglievable. We actually had an outside shot at tying the game late in the fourth quarter if we hold onto the gift fumble by Jones or if AW holds onto the damn punt. We should’ve been rolled by 30 the way we played most of the game. The stupid fucking penalties were just crushing death blows. It was good to see fight in some of the players (Fozzy, Cody, DJ) but I don’t think anyone can adequately put into words the frustration at watching our offensive “gameplan” and the way it hamstrings us. Our first drive on offense tells the entire story.
Homesick Alien…1999 = 3-game losing streak: aggy (bonfire game), Corn (Big 12 title game), Pig (Cotton Bowl, Applewhite injury). So this would be our first 3-game skid in 11 years if we can’t find a way to beat Corn in 2 weeks.
Fuck Greg Davis.

burnt orange outrage,
We never, ever, never ever had the gift fumble by Jones to hold onto in the first place. He was able to slap it out of bounds before any Horn reached it.
David StH,
I’m sure I’d feel much worse if I weren’t under such heavy sedation.

OK this site has gone silent after a tough loss. I’m looking for objective opinions from Scipio and others here and get nothing. Bottom line is this… OU took it to UT today, got a few calls, made a few plays and comes away with the win. Texas D played tough to the end. Blame Davis for “horizontalism” in certain situations. But he made a couple of plays OU couldn’t defend.
by horn_joe on Oct 3, 2010 1:58 AM CDT reply actions
Well, 1000 posts into this (and I can’t be bothered to read any), the problem was that we had horrible execution on O and no discipline on D or ST.
The penalties alone gave OU the game. Period. Shitty, petty, and in some cases flagrant infractions were just too much to overcome.
GD busted out with a real offense but it was held back by idiotic mistakes and costly drops.
On D we had drive sustaining penalties (including on the first drives ou had in the 1st and 2nd halves – and the back breaker) that were simply inexcusable.
Someone has lost control of this team. Someone needs to pick up the pieces and establish a coherent plan moving forward. That someone is not Mack. He’s going to have to step down afer this year. The fucked up part about that is that I can envision a scenario where Muschamp takes over at Georgia AFTER being handed the HC position when Mack steps down. We’re at a serious crossroads and I don’t think any of you quite realize it yet.
I’ll be back next year to rub it in.

Vato Loco,
I thinke we all realize the crossroads we are at. Read the posts on this board and you’ll see.

you’re too retarded to understand football and probably only look at the score and listen to what mack and the coaches tell you. i wish i was as stupid as you. at least then i would have hope.
