I’m tired of watching Oklahoma State perform their annual belly up performance against OU — I’m spending more time watching Tech beat Houston. It’s 21-10 Red Raiders in the 2nd quarter.

by srr50 on Nov 27, 2010 8:10 PM CST reply actions

What do you know — Landry Jones keeps OSU in the game. Herbstreit just said that is Jones’ 7th interception in five road games.

by srr50 on Nov 27, 2010 8:15 PM CST reply actions

Not so fast srr50 – pick 6. It’s a game again. That’s two INTs for The Mustache already.

by Dagga Roosta on Nov 27, 2010 8:16 PM CST reply actions

How lucky can OU be that Blackmon is hurt?

by Blueshorn on Nov 27, 2010 8:20 PM CST reply actions

of course OSU roughs the kicker. Dumb.

Someone remind Holgerson that kendall Hunter is good.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 8:32 PM CST reply actions

Seems like OSU is taking rumors of GD being gone seriously and ensuring that Holgerson doesn’t look good so that we don’t want him.

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Nov 27, 2010 8:35 PM CST reply actions

OSU will taunt us by going ahead in the second half only to piss it away in the last few minutes.

by parlin on Nov 27, 2010 8:35 PM CST reply actions

Wow. That was amazing.

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Nov 27, 2010 8:37 PM CST reply actions

That was frickin awesome. what a pick! Course they missed the hold on the OU OL.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 8:37 PM CST reply actions

HOLY CRAP. That’s one of the craziest interceptions I have ever seen.

OSU player leaps high into the air, taps a pass heading out of bound back into the field of play and another teammate catches it for INT.

by Ishtar on Nov 27, 2010 8:37 PM CST reply actions

ridiculous INT

by GODZILLATRON on Nov 27, 2010 8:38 PM CST reply actions

Best part was the alert defender who cleaned up on a lounging Broyles. Just wiped him out.

by parlin on Nov 27, 2010 8:39 PM CST reply actions

Man, OSU offense is stinking up the joint.

by Texoz on Nov 27, 2010 8:40 PM CST reply actions

Astounding play. Gee, when do you think Landry Jones is going to learn that he needs to go a few yards out of bounds when throwing balls away?

by Dagga Roosta on Nov 27, 2010 8:40 PM CST reply actions

OSU goes with the short kickoff after their touchdown, giving up field position. Then they lay down and let OU march down the field for a field goal before half. They’re playing about as dumb as we do, with similar results.

by Blueshorn on Nov 27, 2010 8:57 PM CST reply actions

People can make all the comments they want about Stoopes, but the SOB’s teams get better and if I am not mistaken he will end up playing for the Big XII title for the 8th time in his 12 seasons in Norman. Factor in the money spent by the athletic departments on say coaches salaries and other costs and I would say Bob is a better value than Mack.

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 9:09 PM CST reply actions

Dagga,

Good point. Landry might have thrown two of the greatest interceptions I have ever seen in a college ball.

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 9:10 PM CST reply actions

If OSU remembers that they can run the ball pretty damn well they will win this game. If they keep throwing it every God damned down like they have been they are going to piss this away.

by t1climb1 on Nov 27, 2010 9:10 PM CST reply actions

Davey,

At this point, anybody that tries to argue Mack is a better coach is looking through orange colored glasses. Parcells said “you are what your record says you are” and the numbers are extremely lopsided. I think Stoops is an arrogant fuckstick with a faulty moral compass, but if you are just talking records and on-field achievements there’s no debate anymore.

by t1climb1 on Nov 27, 2010 9:14 PM CST reply actions

tclimb<

Is Stoopes really any more arrogant than Mack? Biggest difference to me is Bob doesn't tolerate fools well, but with what we have seen in the Texas program be it the fact a kind has to come to Mack to get an offer (Brilliant decision when you look at a kid like Stonum versus any receiver on the Texas roster.), or the energy that is spent on the image of the program and not the development of players.

In regards to moral compass, that is a stone any program should be very, very careful picking up. No, Texas has not had an event like Big Red Automobile. There have been plenty of kids who have been straight running turds be it Brock Edwards, Ramonce, Hardemann, Brandon Collins, etc…….

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 9:20 PM CST reply actions

Weeden must not have had much movement on his fastball. Or his offspeed stuff never developed. He’s got a rocket.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 9:20 PM CST reply actions

If Mack is watching this game and saw all the games today, noting the offensive schemes, there should be no question about a change at offensive coordinator and quarterback.

by torre on Nov 27, 2010 9:21 PM CST reply actions

Man, OSU offense is smoking up the joint.

by Texoz on Nov 27, 2010 9:23 PM CST reply actions

Easy on Ramonce, it was just a little bit of weed.

OSU TD, tied ballgame

by BramonceTaylor on Nov 27, 2010 9:23 PM CST reply actions

That was a great throw for the TD. Tight window over the LBers.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 9:25 PM CST reply actions

It’s a pure pleasure to watch the OSU offense when they’re clicking. Multiple sets, motion backfield, receivers blocking, guys getting open, a line blocking, and running backs getting to the second level without being touched.

Fuck Greg Davis in the ear.

by Toadvine on Nov 27, 2010 9:28 PM CST reply actions

Maybe for Nate Newton.

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 9:29 PM CST reply actions

Block in the back by OU on that punt? Geez, it was right in front of the official.

by Texoz on Nov 27, 2010 9:34 PM CST reply actions

Face mask by OU receiver? not a penalty on offense?

by BramonceTaylor on Nov 27, 2010 9:38 PM CST reply actions

Can the offensive receiver really just grab facemask like that? Insane.

by Dagga Roosta on Nov 27, 2010 9:39 PM CST reply actions

Seeing OSU play so many Frosh LBers, makes me wonder if Jordan Hicks didn’t get enough snaps this year. Especially with E Acho hobbled. We really ended up with a really tight rotation at DE and LB. Also, disappointed with what Earnest and Norton provided as SRs.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 9:41 PM CST reply actions

I get that everybody is in love with Holgerson and I agree it is a good option to consider. However, in all of the football I have watched the last year or two, the offense I am most jealous of is Stanford. I know that Harbaugh is supposedly looking for an NFL gig, but how do we get that offense here at UT? Can we hire their OC? Are there other OCs around the country that do well with that offense?

by tim on Nov 27, 2010 9:47 PM CST reply actions

That actually was a stiff arm by the receiver. It is easy to understand the confusion as Horn fans this year are more accustomed to either the receiver not catching the ball at all or falling down.

tim,

I agree completely.

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 9:54 PM CST reply actions

Hmmmm. Announcer just said Miami already took action for their program… Just sayin.

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Nov 27, 2010 10:07 PM CST reply actions

BTW, and forgive me for being pretty far off topic for this thread, if there is any affinity for coaching for his alma mater, why isn’t Michigan handing Harbaugh a blank check right now? Where would they be if they had hired him instead of RichRod?

ohhh that’s a killer.

No shit – considering where we’ve been, we’ll take it.

by Ag_in_TX on Nov 27, 2010 10:19 PM CST reply actions

tim,

If you watched the Ohio State – Michigan game today you might have heard thoughts that Rich Rod is in big trouble and one of the big issues was he wasn’t a Michigan man. There isn’t a head coaching prospect out there that meets that criteria more than Harbaugh.

Biggest issue I am told is that Michigan has to come to grips with just how far the program has fallen and when that happens they will do what is needed to bring Harbaugh back to Ann Arbor.

by Davey O'Brien on Nov 27, 2010 10:21 PM CST reply actions

What gets me is how much OSU’s defense is keeping them in the game. Their offense has been struggling a lot more than I thought they would against OU.

by Capt. Obvious on Nov 27, 2010 10:24 PM CST reply actions

tim – considering how good Stanford is right now, pretty much any program in the country should be lining up the money trucks for Harbaugh (Texas included, maybe). But RichRod is a major beneficiary of the sunk cost fallacy. After all they went through to get RichRod on campus, a lot of egos (and a lot of cushy jobs) are vested in his success. It’d be a no-brainer to dump him for Harbaugh otherwise, and I imagine Harbaugh would be interested. But the Michigan brass would need to admit RichRod was a mistake first, and I don’t see that happening this year. But I could be wrong.

by Dagga Roosta on Nov 27, 2010 10:26 PM CST reply actions

Miami loses to South Florida. Shannon fired. per ESPN crawler. Mack Brown and Greg Davis to South Beach.

by Sasha is a Longhorn Dog on Nov 27, 2010 10:43 PM CST reply actions

Also, as to the surprised remarks about OU shutting OSU down, maybe we should not be surprised. OU and UT did a pretty good job of shutting down Holgerson’s stuff at Tech.

About the comments about coaching changes, thanks for the replies. Thanks especially to Davey for the detailed info. I am not as knowledgeable as the rest of you, so I am just coming at this from a very simplistic point of view: Mack and Will purportedly wanted a power running, play action, deep throwing offense. Stanford has one, and it is devastating. Let’s figure out how to get that here. My gut feeling is that type of offense is more effective against tough defenses than the Holgerson style spread or maybe even the Oregon spread (eg Ohio St in Rose Bowl 2010). Maybe I am wrong.

by tim on Nov 27, 2010 10:43 PM CST reply actions

What the hell were the DBs looking at? Terrible.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 10:44 PM CST reply actions

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 10:49 PM CST reply actions

Division titles:

Stoops – 8 in 12 years
Mack – 5 in 13 years

Conference titles:

Stoops – 6 or 7 in 12 years
Mack – 2 in 13 years

Yet UT is the anchor school in the best recruiting state with the most financial resources in the country, while OU is the outsider underdog. That’s some major underperforming by UT.

Why the hell should Mack not be fired? He won a national title? Yeah, so did Stoops, and his Sooners have played in twice as many MNC games.

Texas has all the advantages (other than cheating) yet loses by wide margins on all the metrics that should matter. Do we really play for titles or just to look nice?

Okie State, as a Longhorn fan who endured a 5-7 season, even I feel a bit sorry for them. Players and coaches who aren’t accustomed to the big stage. Probably happy that OU didn’t hang 60 on them this time.

by ultralight on Nov 27, 2010 10:57 PM CST reply actions

A weak OU team will win another title, because Mack surrounded himself with a collection of buffoons for coaches.

Thanks, Mack. My disdain for you grows with every passing day. I can’t stand to listen to your squeaky voice, anymore. Please retire and let Muschamp take over.

For all of the folks that think Holgorsen will stay at OSU and won’t move “laterally” to Texas, I give you the 47 points OU just scored on the Cowboy defense in Stillwater. He won’t have to worry about that in Austin.

by uthookem on Nov 27, 2010 11:00 PM CST reply actions

Davey,

Yeahhh, let’s just say I know a little more than you on the subject of their relative moral compasses and leave it at that. And it’s from first hand experience.

As for the arrogance. Yes, point taken. Mack is certainly arrogant but in a very different way. How about this, Mack’s arrogance leads to his massive blind spots and Stoops is just an asshole?

by t1climb1 on Nov 28, 2010 12:18 AM CST reply actions

Ahhhhhhhh, what a weekend:

Boise loses
LSU loses
Texas is 5-7 and no bowl birth (huh?)
OU put OSU in their place…again!

WHERE ARE THE 45-35 CHANTS? HOW ABOUT 5-7? WHERE WERE THOSE SIGNS IN THE STANDS AGAINST THE AGGIES??? For a program like Texas to go 5-7, especially a year after going to the national championship, it’s downright disgraceful. No matter how many BCS games Stoops loses, or how many road games he loses, or how many times he somehow goes to the Big 12 game over Texas even though EVERYONE knows Texas should go, NOTHING will ever match the sucktitude of Texas going 5-7 under Mack with the best recruits in the country. NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THAT…

by Phaeded on Nov 28, 2010 12:44 AM CST reply actions

tclimb,

Fair enough on the issue of moral compass. In regards to the arrogance as a career salesman I can tolerate someone who is an ass when they continually deliver on their numbers. What I can’t stomach is someone who is more than happy to tell you that if they had caught a break or two or if that one big sale had come through their numbers would be completely different. Especially when that salesman has the prime market share.

It should be noted OU did show their complete disregard for the rules of fair play on their final touchdown. First, the idea of calling an offensive play specifically designed to exploit a defense’s tendencies is viewed as highly suspect by most and unethical by some. Second, they broke a longstanding gentleman’s agreement among BIG XII coaches to run an EBS on a pass pattern over 10 yards down the field. Third, to even recruit a player who specifically had those abilities instead of trying to convert a player when we all know it is a dying position in the words of James Colburn’s character from Payback, “Is just plain mean”.
