Fear The Leach

The Maryland Terrapins forced ACC Coach of the Year Ralph Friedgen to walk the double-reinforced plank this week.

Star-divide

According to all sorts of rumor and rank speculation, they have their eye on the Dread Pirate Leach.

Let me be clear. I need this to happen. The blogosphere is nowhere near as fun when Cap'n Mike is in dry dock.

Also, if he takes half of Mike Stoops staff, that will cause angst in the Youngstown fraternity and it's always fun to watch these hot heads go lunar.

Guns Up, Terrapins!

Sailor,

I don’t think he should take half of Mike Stoops staff, only the top quarter. Then, he should add the top quarter of Bo’s staff. We can call it a parting gift that keeps on giving.

Now, let’s get our house in order!

I just got so happily worked up over this, my GF told me to settle down. The elephant might be coaching 15 mins. from my house.

X-mas is coming early to College Park.

How long until he starts referring to College Park as, the Isle of Tortuga?

Justin Wilcox of Tennessee will be offered the DC job at Texas.

DCers don’t fear the Leacher.

Bummer for Big Ralph. Nice turnaround and then gets his walking papers?

Agree though – I really hope Leach is the man. I’d like to see him back in the Big 12, but this is a good second best.

I think Leach can do a great job of keeping all that D.C. talent at home. That would be a great hire for the Terps.

I think in a few years Miami will regret not hiring the Dread Pirate. He needs to get a good DC and pay more attention to that side of the ball. He should be able to get better athletes than what he was able to lure to Lubbock.

And this is a bad hire for Virginia Tech. Where do you think VPI has been getting all those players? Christiansburg?

by Ag_in_TX on Dec 19, 2010 9:26 AM CST reply actions

Awesome! I can’t wait to see the Pirate back in the game. He is one of the best characters in college football. I really enjoy having him around.

Sorry that I’ve missed this, but can someone explain to me why the Maryland coach was forced to leave? They had an unexpectedly great season this year.

Inconceivable!

I have been intrigued by the idea of his going to Arizona State with the resources of the University, great weather, and access to California, but ending up at Maryland has some great possibilities.

Mid -Atlantic with some very good local talent int DC and Virginia, access to other talent up and down the coast and that does include Florida, a solid league but not a great one, and you put him in a pretty big media market.

Maryland is an Under Armour school as is Tech, I think. I like Leach at Maryland. Big enough school and conference where I’ll be interested in following him, but not too close.

ultralight,

Excellent point and in fact I believe the founder of Under Armour is a Maryland grad. Hmmmmmmm……I wonder what would happen if he made a decision to funnel donations into his alma mater as a way to help build the program and help the company’s market share.

There is a reason as to why he ended up in the ACC — at a basketball school. No BCS power team will touch him with a 10-foot Pirate Plank.

I assume part of the deal will be that the ESPN lawsuit goes away.

Didn’t we just schedule a home and home with Maryland not too long ago?

by tdwalsh on Dec 19, 2010 3:55 PM CST reply actions

15 minutes from your house, Bates, and 30 from mine. Finally, a reason to be interested in Terps football again!

Access to all those sailors in Annapolis.
