If we can keep Jud Heatcote from wearing a checker-board jacket, we have a chance.

What a dime by Brown. Just a heady play off that down screen.

That’s why we run. Such a different team in the open floor.
by Trips Right on Dec 22, 2010 6:16 PM CST reply actions
Can we please have this J’Covan for the rest of the season?
by Little Burt on Dec 22, 2010 6:16 PM CST reply actions
So far I like the chances of more of our shots going in than theirs. I just hope we can hold down the boards.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 6:26 PM CST reply actions
We’re getting good looks for the most part, missed a couple chippies.
by BEHorn on Dec 22, 2010 6:27 PM CST reply actions
At least we’re killing ourselves from the free throw line … I like it when some things don’t change.
by BEHorn on Dec 22, 2010 6:29 PM CST reply actions
Jay Bilas is an asshat. What game is he watching?
by Trips Right on Dec 22, 2010 6:29 PM CST reply actions
If Hill did lead the team in blocked shots, I would take that as a sign to play even more aggressive defense.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 6:34 PM CST reply actions
It’s all relative. I’d rather have Bilas than Vitale or Gettys.
by Sundance01 on Dec 22, 2010 6:34 PM CST reply actions
Good grief J’Covan. Mismatch with Johnson on Green and you launch that horseshit?
by Trips Right on Dec 22, 2010 6:35 PM CST reply actions
I love Tom Izzo. His expression after Thompson’s dunk off the break … priceless.
by BEHorn on Dec 22, 2010 6:37 PM CST reply actions
Fast break points from the freshmen. Looking pretty solid so far, and it’s only a matter of time before Hamilton and Brown create some offense in the half court.
by Sundance01 on Dec 22, 2010 6:38 PM CST reply actions
I thought I’d see Dogus at the scorers table by the time J’Covan’s shot hit the rim.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 6:38 PM CST reply actions
Horns’ hoop game on one TV, future OC’s team (please, please!) on another at the airport bar. Kinda hope my flight is delayed.
by RedmondLonghorn on Dec 22, 2010 6:43 PM CST reply actions
I agree with Sundance. I’ll take this team over any of the others in the ESPN roster.
by Savage Henry on Dec 22, 2010 6:43 PM CST reply actions
Need to avoid another end of 1h swoon like we did at UNC….
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 6:47 PM CST reply actions
I actually really like Bobby Knight as a color guy. I suppose I like Bilas best after that. Fraschilla and Vitale drive me crazy.
Nice TO from Barnes there.
by Sundance01 on Dec 22, 2010 6:48 PM CST reply actions
We’re fine. We have a better basketball team.
by Trips Right on Dec 22, 2010 6:52 PM CST reply actions
Nix is small. I’d like to see him, Dex and Brian Williams mix it up.
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 6:54 PM CST reply actions
b/c i enjoy seeing large black men mix it up….
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 6:56 PM CST reply actions
Bilas calls Joseph a bigger DJ Augustin. Somewhere Reno Hightower is smiling.

This game is making me wonder who it was that we sent to Southern Cal a few weeks ago.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 7:16 PM CST reply actions
Need CoJo and Hamilton to start knocking some of those open treys down
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 7:16 PM CST reply actions
love how Cojo digs down and cleans up boards that get loose.
by Trips Right on Dec 22, 2010 7:21 PM CST reply actions
How did this team get beat by 17? By anyone?
by Savage Henry on Dec 22, 2010 7:24 PM CST reply actions
I still think it’s a close game down the stretch but this is fun right now.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 7:24 PM CST reply actions
Co Jo reminds me more of a young Deron Williams. Great body for a PG.
by Art Vandelay on Dec 22, 2010 7:25 PM CST reply actions
Damn it. I haven’t said it tonight, so I will now.
Screw J’Covan Brown. Can’t stand him.
by Orangeblood79 on Dec 22, 2010 7:31 PM CST reply actions
Brotzman (Boise kicker), just dropped a wide open pass on a fake punt on 4th and 6…dude is not having a good close to his season
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 7:32 PM CST reply actions
Draymond Green to the bench….is it just me or does he look like a darker Damion James?
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 7:37 PM CST reply actions
34 for Mich St carried the ball three separate times on that possession.
by Art Vandelay on Dec 22, 2010 7:41 PM CST reply actions
Why are we taking shots with 25secs on the shot clock?
by Savage Henry on Dec 22, 2010 7:44 PM CST reply actions
Tom Izzo is the Bob Stoops of college basketball. Bullies the refs and frog like expressions.
by Art Vandelay on Dec 22, 2010 7:44 PM CST reply actions
Every team needs an enforcer… and I didn’t see Hill throwing many bows in North Carolina. That takes cojones BIG time. Love the way J’Bowin scraps and fights with every ounce of his being for the burnt orange out there. Maybe he might not take all the best shots but he makes up for certain toughness deficiencies from other players.
by TheBlanton on Dec 22, 2010 7:44 PM CST reply actions
Tristan has been all over the place, but his post moves in the lane have been junk tonight
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 7:46 PM CST reply actions
Green does look like a darker, fatter, James.
by Sundance01 on Dec 22, 2010 7:48 PM CST reply actions
C’mon boys, close this shit out big. No drama.
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 7:50 PM CST reply actions
Nothing like fadeaways with 20 seconds left on the shot clock when you’re trying to close it out.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 7:51 PM CST reply actions
Better ballclub than the green and white. Time to put Jud Heathcote to bed.
by Art Vandelay on Dec 22, 2010 7:52 PM CST reply actions
What the …. ? Just got home from stimulating the (Christmas) economy and we’re up 15 with under 3 minutes left!? Have we played that well, has MSU played that poorly, or are the Spartans not the team we thought they were?
by AKHorn on Dec 22, 2010 7:56 PM CST reply actions
Goodnight Sparty. Don’t let the door on the rustbelt hit you in the butt.
by Art Vandelay on Dec 22, 2010 7:58 PM CST reply actions
Hamilton just told East Lansing to fuck off…
by Fundamentals on Dec 22, 2010 7:58 PM CST reply actions
And JHam gives Sparty another resounding fuck off

I don’t think I’ve heard a basketball arena that quiet since the Erwin Center last week against North Florida.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 8:03 PM CST reply actions
We just went to North Carolina and Michigan State over a five day span and won BOTH games.
Very, very impressive no matter who you play to win both games, but to win against MSU and NC in a great achievement. Merry Christmas to the players and coaches. You deserve it.
by Texoz on Dec 22, 2010 8:08 PM CST reply actions
These open basketball threads are the tits.
I mean, if you didn’t know the score and were just going by the tone of the posts, you’d think we were the team down by 15 at home.
Buncha ransomstoddards (hoops version) around here.
by CrazyJoeDavola on Dec 22, 2010 8:09 PM CST reply actions
Barnes gives well deserved props to Matt Hill….dude has come a long way as well….doesn’t show up on the stat sheet but he’s giving us a some damn good minutes
by marqroid on Dec 22, 2010 8:09 PM CST reply actions
The horns are going to be moving on up in the polls.
The starting front line was outstanding: Jordan had 21 points on 9 of 19 shooting plus 8 rebounds. Tristan got 15 rebounds plus 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting. Gary scored 14 points on 5 of 11 and also got 5 rebounds. If Barnes can figure out how to exploit the mismatches when Jordan is guarded by a smaller guard in the post, Jordan will get 40 points.
by Kafka on Dec 22, 2010 8:27 PM CST reply actions
That was as complete a game as I have seen in a long time — defense, rebounding, and a lot of options. It has become apparent that Barnes wants to play Johnson and Hamilton on the wings together, and they can cause a lot of headaches in matchups.
Jordan has really increased his basketball IQ. I am stunned that he came back and he has willingly bought into the Barnes tough love tactics.
It is also very apparent that unlike last year when December turned into Fools Gold, Barnes actually likes this team.
by srr50 on Dec 22, 2010 9:06 PM CST reply actions
MSU outrebounded UT 45-39 but the horns were working hard. The horns out shot the spartans 41% to 29%. UT also led in steals 11 to 4 and had fewer turnovers 10 to 16.

“I think this is the most talented team we’ve played so far,” said Izzo, whose team lost on the road to top-ranked Duke, against Connecticut in Maui and to Syracuse in New York.
by Diego on Dec 22, 2010 9:43 PM CST reply actions
^^^ wow. If not for last season’s nosedive, I’d be elated.
by texoz on Dec 22, 2010 10:35 PM CST reply actions
I may end up eating these words, texoz, but this appears to be a vastly different team, both in attitudes and in talent.
God love Dex Pittman, but Tristan Thompson appears to give us so many more options at the post. Our guard play is immeasurably better with Joseph in there, and Hamilton is enormously improved both physically and, it would seem, emotionally/intellectually.
Also, the players seem to not detest each other.
We may end up with a similar record to last year’s team, but I have little doubt that we’ll be significantly better in March of 2011 than in March of 2010.
by CrazyJoeDavola on Dec 22, 2010 10:49 PM CST reply actions
There is no relation between last year’s dive and this years team.
This team actually has bought into the offensive scheme, and they are also playing at a differently level defensively. Just look at the body language and you can tell that this team actually believes in each other and like each other. That was nowhere near the case last year.
Hell, Barnes likes this team.
Jordan Hamilton is a smarter player and a much stronger offensive player — with the ability to score from anywhere on the court. He has a much better awareness of his teammates.
The two freshmen are just elite players they are also hard workers who have already gained the respect of their teammates.
That’s not to say that they won’t go through rough stretches – because they will, thanks to youth and the level of the competition they will face. But this team will not collapse on itself.
by srr50 on Dec 22, 2010 10:54 PM CST reply actions
Jordan Hamilton is Paul Pierce 2 Electric Boogaloo.
by Charles on Dec 22, 2010 11:26 PM CST reply actions
When Jordan Hamilton’s mistake is giving up the orange on an ill-advised pass on a fast break, you know you got yourself a team.
Gary J – works.
Matt H – works.
Balbay – works.
Wagnmene – works.
Thompson, Joseph, Hamilton – talent.
And still they all play as a unit. Screw the final record, at least it’s fun to watch. After a year in the desert, it’s quality H2O.
