Is this a form of satire given the past speculation of coaches to the 40 acres or should this be taken litterally as it was just more speculation???

Strangest. Offseason. Ever.

by Brian Combs on Dec 22, 2010 2:06 PM CST reply actions

Really, the strange offseason is consistent with the bizarro football season we already experienced. We should have expected as much.

Geoff Ketchum is a fraud.

lets not forget, Jesus was running with this for a while as well…

lots and lots of misinformation coming from Bellmont. I’m starting to think this is finally being controlled in the proper manner by Mack & Co.

speculation breeds restlessness. let’s just have an announcement and be done with it. and it sounds more and more like it is gonna go down the first week of january…

happy holidays!

Stike one- Austin is coming to Austin… Sorta glad he is not coming to Texas
Strike two- Addazio is coming to Texas
Strike Three- Santa Claus is coming to Texas on Dec 25th early in the morning to deliver a new OC and DC.

This offseason is like a bad murder-mystery. Random, sudden changes lead to accusations that make less and less sense. Somebody wake me when we actually hire somebody – hopefully we won’t have lost the entire 2012 class yet.

by WanderingHorn on Dec 22, 2010 2:18 PM CST reply actions

Jesus never indicated that his sources confirmed Addazio. He was just happy about the fact that it was the kind of coach that would probably keep Westerman in the fold.

Whether that is good or bad is anybodys guess.

by Hipster on Dec 22, 2010 2:34 PM CST reply actions

Scagnetti,

Not to do Jesus’ bidding but in fairness, Jesus didn’t run with it at all. He didn’t opine on Addazio until OB’s dropped their story.

Toadvine could be right and that’s why the predictions and proclamations have been quiet on the Cosm as of late. Too much info coming from too many angles that doesn’t mesh.

The fact that Mack is so expertly misleading people leads me to believe that he has a decent plan in place.

Addazio probably was the call until Temple stepped in. Premature prognostication, happens to us all.

Bottom line
Mack Brown is the godfather of college football coaches. Do not mess with the godfather. That would include leaking info. Put some hair on his chess, gold chain, thick hair with sun glasses.. That would make a great picture. “no leaks, I have a plan and if info leakes it will not be a preaty pritty preety picture for the guilty one” Touch of satire

One of the complicating factors (or reassuring depending on your point of view) in this coordinator search is the degree of involvment of the higher ups in Mack’s hiring process. We’ve come a long way from the “we trust you Mack go out and hire who you want” days. That’s what 5-7 and a Cleve situaiton will do for you.

The big difference between Ketch putting this out and Jesus’ story a few weeks back is that Ketch indeed charges members for his speculation and rumours while all Jesus ask is our time. It’s becoming clear that our momentum is lost and the shine on working for the Texas program is dull. The chances for that “world class staff” are dwindling.

by Saltshaker on Dec 22, 2010 4:19 PM CST reply actions

None of that is in any way clear, ’shaker.

Nothing is clear right now. Maybe it’s not happening with the alacrity you want, but as a whole, we just don’t have enough information to say the wheels have come off yet.

Or that the wheels are still on, for that matter.

BREAKING NEWS***

I am no longer a candidate for the OC position at Texas.

by EarlCampellsSausage on Dec 22, 2010 4:54 PM CST reply actions

Most of the reports that I have seen saying Addazio was taking our OL job were coming from the Florida camp, not Bellmont, which has been on lockdown. At least that is how IT phrased it from yesterday’s first report.

Similarly, the smoke on Wilcox for DC is coming from Tennessee. We should view those rumors as rumors.

by hopefulhorn on Dec 22, 2010 5:13 PM CST reply actions

With respect to the vacant OC and DC jobs, make a list of every NFL and Div. I coach who has:
a. recruiting chops
b. a track record of sending kids to the show
c. a squeaky clean reputation
d. a willingness to honor the chain of command, and most importantly
e. not yet been rumored to be the choice.

I could take our football offense and do better than Greg Davis with it. I guarantee you. We’ll have “voluntary” practices for 60 hours a week under the lights, including for three hours after every game we lose.

by Coach Gus on Dec 22, 2010 9:39 PM CST reply actions

This is from Lance Zeirlein on OB.

Even considering te source, could this be true? Vinny Cerrato? Good Lord.

“Here is what I KNOW. Texas has Vinny Cerrato analyzing the program inside and out and helping Mack through the hiring process.”

by save us from mackdavis on Dec 22, 2010 9:56 PM CST reply actions

Those of you saying the sky are falling are simply frustrated with the process.

There is no reason for Mack, or anyone else in Belmont, to update the vast Texas fan base on the hiring process. If he did, it would discourage some very attractive applicants from applying. Would you apply for a job while employed elsewhere, if you knew that the information would be broadcast to your current employer even if you weren’t under serious consideration for the position? In addition to a job security issue, it could certainly be embarrassing.

Think about the candidates that have been leaked. To date those names have been Shannon, no longer head coach at Miami; Austin, no long DC at Florida; Addazzio (sp?), no longer OC at Florida; and Wilcox, who may very well have a deal in place with all but i’s dotted and t’s crossed. (That would be fine by me.)

Not one of those candidates would be hurt by the exposure, most would probably benefit. If, as I suspect, Wilcox will be our next DC and the only thing left is minor details, the release of his name hurt no one.

I think that thinking Mack Brown is controlling this is giving him way to much credit. I’m afraid Mack is controlling this the same manner he controlled this past train wreck of a season. This might be a joke but so far it’s not very funny

by stilltrying on Dec 22, 2010 10:24 PM CST reply actions

stilltrying,

It is possible you are correct, but I seriously doubt it. There is rarely a point of view that is correct, as well as, 100% positive or 100% negative. For those of you who choose to believe that Mack has forgotten everything he has learned in decades of coaching, overnight, I will laugh at you, grab your season tickets the first moment they are available, and laugh until tears run down my face when he replaces the coaches we lost with an upgrade at almost every position.

The notable exception is the linebacker coach who, I believe, will be Muschamp’s equal – clone, if you will. If you choose to remain morose about the entire situation, so be it.

Hook ’em!

Bellmont has posted a new job description for the DC role. This confirms my suspicion that Mack Brown isn’t some master manipulator using reporters as marionettes, while he pulls off some great coaching hire heist under everyone’s noses.
Reality check for the Mack Brown faithful. The entire process is fluid. Guys are probably accepting and then using their Texas offer as leverage for higher paying gigs. Economics and market demand are in control. Not Mack Brown.

We are also competing with some of our own rivals for coaching hires, as well as Muschamp & co. Wake me when the ink is dry and they purchase real estate in an Austin suburb.

by Mocking Bird on Dec 23, 2010 9:08 AM CST reply actions

I’m afraid those pushing the narrative of Mack’s got a free hand and has everything under control are off. Look at the embarrassing repost of the DC position for one.

by ex cathedra on Dec 23, 2010 10:48 AM CST reply actions

Hey, Mack Van Winkle – Are you fucking awake? The whole DC job posting just needs to say ‘DC for Football Program’ then go hire whoever you want. This whole tayloring a job description to fit one person is bullshit dreamed up by a collection of attorneys who need to pay themselves. Mack needs to get on the ball and get personnel in here and quit fucking around. By God, we’re Texas and we don’t need to wait until some bowl game is over, blah blah blah to make some fucking hires. Get the fuckin’ talent on the payroll and lets get this football program back on track. I can’t believe Mack is getting paid millions for this cluster-fuck.

Oh and by the way, fire fucking Deloss Dodds. He has shot the Big XII in the head and the body is laying on the street bleeding out. Death is iminnent. That is not good for Texas.

by Le George on Dec 23, 2010 1:01 PM CST reply actions

Le George,

Perhaps the guys we really want don’t have any interest in coming here before their bowl games…perhaps the guys we want also want some leverage and want to see what other positions might open up after the bowl season. You may believe the ’We’re Texas’ mantra but top coaches could give a shit if more money or a higher position awaits elsewhere.

Or we can do it your way and hire the guys who want to come now and end up with the equivalent of Taylor Doyle for our coaching staff. Its nice to have guys who really want to come here, but I would rather wait and get the best talent.

by Ricky on Dec 23, 2010 2:18 PM CST reply actions

You are responding to something Le George didn’t even say.

The re-posting is freaking embarrassing.

by saveus from mackdavis on Dec 23, 2010 4:58 PM CST reply actions

mackdavis, huh? Unless my snark meter is completely fried, George is telling Mack to get off his ass and hire a staff and tell us who it is…stat. That isn’t going to work when coaches, especially good ones, don’t think working for Mack at Texas is the greatest thing ever.

Yes, its embarrassing that they have to repost the job, but hurrying is the whole reason why it happened. We now have guys who perhaps aren’t so great turning us down it seems! If the AD weren’t so intent on getting around state hiring practices this wouldn’t be an issue. The sad thing is that it sounds like they interviewed enough candidates to have covered any legal issues and they could have just posted a more generic set of qualifications in the first place.

by Ricky on Dec 23, 2010 6:17 PM CST reply actions

We are all not far apart The original posting was was hyper-cautious over lawyering that blew up in Mack;s face. He needs to get the best man available. I don;t think he needs to wait until the bowl games are over to make contact and maybe he’s doing it behind the scenes. The process has not seemed smooth to say the least.

by saveus from mackdavis on Dec 23, 2010 7:24 PM CST reply actions

I’m starting to get the impression alot of coaches think hiring on at Texas right now isn’t a good deal for any type of long term stability. They probably don’t see Brown staying on for another 3 years and figure the next guy in will fire everyone so why bother.
