Cameron Ridley to Texas

Gerry Hamilton of 247sports is reporting that Cameron Ridley has committed to Texas. Ridley is a 6'10" 235 lb true center. I have not seen him play, so I will let Trips come over and give you some analysis.

Here is some video of Ridley squaring off against future teammate Julien Lewis and La Marque. Ridley is the tall badass dude.

Ladies and gentleman, this kind of reporting can’t be found in many places.

Cherish it, treasure it, and by all means mock the messenger while celebrating the news.

Now come back in 15 minutes when this post is actually finished.

The General is padding his post stats like Dennis Rodman missing shots on purpose to get the rebound.

For the trifecta of suck, that is a pay link to the story.

‘ladies and gentleman’

i like the sound of that.

Magnus, straight out of the Henry James playbook.

This site is all over it. Seven comments and nary a single use of the player’s name. Let’s keep this going, Ripley loves it when we stay off topic.

If it hasn’t been obvious for the past week, he’s grouse hunting in Europe.

by Vasherized on Jan 14, 2011 10:26 AM CST reply actions

Oh, and Julien Lewis is a fucking badass.

Did anyone else expect Cameron Ridley to look a bit more like, say, Connor Atchley or Jason Klotz? Like Jevan Snead in reverse.

nordberg-

Yes.

I haven’t been this confused since Tyrell Reed, and before that Patrick Chung.

Just got a post up at March to March:

http://marchtomarch.fantake.com/2011/01/14/longhorns-splash-onto-2012-recruiting-scene/

It’s HUGE recruiting news for Barnes. You’ve probably been reading for months (years? hours?) that Texas talent is stacked in 2012-13. Ridley now gives Barnes a powerful recruiting chip when he’s talking to the elite guards in these classes.

by jc25 on Jan 14, 2011 10:38 AM CST reply actions

After last season I was concerned that the wheels came off the bus.

Barnes is now driving a gold-plated, diamond encrusted Mercedes Benz bus with wi-fi, a hot tub, a 60-inch plasma, and it’s followed by a supply caravan loaded with potential future Horns hoping to get on the “Benz Bus.”

The original confounder: Tyrone Branyan.

From Teasip’s article:

“Nothing’s going to change,” joked Ridley’s mother, Sharon Rinehart. “He’ll still do chores and still put away the trash.”

Put away? HOARDERS!!

Huge get, for the reason’s jc25 stated. The staff doesn’t even have to leave Houston when chasing 2012ers.

Patrick Chung’s mom must have been a G.I.

Whoa, epic italics fail.

I need a number. Are we talking a top 50 player? Top 20? 5?

by ut-06 on Jan 14, 2011 12:11 PM CST reply actions

MarchtoMarch has my numbers.

Cameron Ridley, a 6’10″ center from Fort Bend Bush, verbally committed to the Longhorns today. Ridley is ranked #14 overall by Rivals, #4 by Scout, and #4 by ESPN.

by ut-06 on Jan 14, 2011 12:16 PM CST reply actions

He’s a legit top 5 player. Now if we could just get Hamilton and Thompson to stick around for awhile.

by Vasherized on Jan 14, 2011 12:21 PM CST reply actions

vasherized,
Barnes biggest recruiting coup of his career will be to make sure nobody leaves this team early after this season, specifically Hamilton.

If that happens, UT will be the favorite to win it all in 2011-2012.

by Texoz on Jan 14, 2011 1:12 PM CST reply actions

JHam is as good as gone. Still a top 8 preseason team in 2011-2012 if we can avoid a 2nd half meltdown and TT returns.

No. And here’s why.

“Ridley is ranked #14 overall by Rivals, #4 by Scout, and #4 by ESPN.”

I saw that first before I saw him.

Probably a lot better videos out there, but am I the only one that thought that was incredibly sloppy basketball?

by Victory Lap on Jan 14, 2011 2:16 PM CST reply actions

Totally unrelated, but I’m glad those hippos (cheerleaders) got a work release for this game.

by Nick Cremona on Jan 14, 2011 2:33 PM CST reply actions

Thanks for the story and congrats to Rick Barnes. Great get. So what do we think are the chances that TT goes pro? My thoughts are that he’s just scratching the surface of his potential, and even still is extremely impressive. The Tech behind the back dribble and dish (like others who commented in the post-mortem) was the “woah” moment for me. If I were a scout at that game I would have been on the phone to my boss pretty quickly. All that said, the kid seems like if he were to have another year with Todd Wright and develope his game in college, he could really get PAID in 2012. Unfortunately I feel like the thought of him staying is just wishful thinking.

Bush high holla!!!

by Fico on Jan 14, 2011 2:52 PM CST reply actions

VL: Yes, sloppy. Hard to believe that the Bush player let himself be trapped…. twice.

There did not seem to be a ton of emotion in that clip.

by Bob in Houston on Jan 14, 2011 2:59 PM CST reply actions

Victory Lap – no.

Granted it was only 1 qtr of 1 game, but still. And Ridley’s teammates seemed like they suck.

by justhookit on Jan 14, 2011 3:20 PM CST reply actions

Tristan Thompson is 6’8" (6’9" at the tops). There are 3 PF’s or Centers in the top 50 of the NBA that are below 6’9" in height. TT doesn’t have a face up game from 15-18 feet, and shoots ~50% from the line. I think TT can do some good coming back. That doesn’t scream NBA game to me.

by Wulaw Horn on Jan 14, 2011 3:24 PM CST reply actions

julien lewis was something like 1-6 on 3pt shots. probably wouldn’t use this as his highlight film.

by mpayne on Jan 14, 2011 7:23 PM CST reply actions

I liked his form, though. Much like Hamilton, Lewis is going to have to learn what is a good shot and what isn’t.

by justhookit on Jan 14, 2011 8:11 PM CST reply actions

Avery Bradley demoted to D-League. Good bulletin board material … for those who think “one ’n done” is the real deal.

This site is cool. Is it the companion site for recruiting news, as opposed to general coaching and program articles on recruitocosm?

Julien Lewis has been wrecking shit this year. Check the stats.

Be of good comfort Master Ridley, and play the man. We shall this day light such a candle by God’s grace in Austin, as (I trust) shall never be put out.

finally watched the video from the post. My favorite part is the free throw shooting. bends his knees, puts a nice arc on it, and seems to have a soft touch.

He HAS to shoot FTs well because he will spend a lot of time shooting freebies in his career.

by Texoz on Jan 15, 2011 11:59 AM CST reply actions

Victory Lap you sir are correct.

That was the ugliest few minutes of basketball I’ve seen in a long time. Horrendous shot selection; the word “pass” can’t even be used anywhere near that video, much less the word “assist.”

If those two teams are ranked 2 and 3 in the state, I’d hate to see the unranked teams.

Yikes.

I’m going to have to disagree with you there, I mean, he’s not shack, but he’s got an awful lot of motion on those free throws. It seems to me he’d be more consistent with a shorter stroke from the line.

I also thought on his jump shot, he was shooting a bit late i.e. as he was coming down. Even so, Ridley was the best player on the floor if you ask me. Certainly nothing to be concerned about.
