It’s HUGE recruiting news for Barnes. You’ve probably been reading for months (years? hours?) that Texas talent is stacked in 2012-13. Ridley now gives Barnes a powerful recruiting chip when he’s talking to the elite guards in these classes.

After last season I was concerned that the wheels came off the bus.

Barnes is now driving a gold-plated, diamond encrusted Mercedes Benz bus with wi-fi, a hot tub, a 60-inch plasma, and it’s followed by a supply caravan loaded with potential future Horns hoping to get on the “Benz Bus.”

Cameron Ridley, a 6’10″ center from Fort Bend Bush, verbally committed to the Longhorns today. Ridley is ranked #14 overall by Rivals, #4 by Scout, and #4 by ESPN.

He’s a legit top 5 player. Now if we could just get Hamilton and Thompson to stick around for awhile.

Barnes biggest recruiting coup of his career will be to make sure nobody leaves this team early after this season, specifically Hamilton.

If that happens, UT will be the favorite to win it all in 2011-2012.

JHam is as good as gone. Still a top 8 preseason team in 2011-2012 if we can avoid a 2nd half meltdown and TT returns.

Probably a lot better videos out there, but am I the only one that thought that was incredibly sloppy basketball?

Thanks for the story and congrats to Rick Barnes. Great get. So what do we think are the chances that TT goes pro? My thoughts are that he’s just scratching the surface of his potential, and even still is extremely impressive. The Tech behind the back dribble and dish (like others who commented in the post-mortem) was the “woah” moment for me. If I were a scout at that game I would have been on the phone to my boss pretty quickly. All that said, the kid seems like if he were to have another year with Todd Wright and develope his game in college, he could really get PAID in 2012. Unfortunately I feel like the thought of him staying is just wishful thinking.

Granted it was only 1 qtr of 1 game, but still. And Ridley’s teammates seemed like they suck.

Tristan Thompson is 6’8" (6’9" at the tops). There are 3 PF’s or Centers in the top 50 of the NBA that are below 6’9" in height. TT doesn’t have a face up game from 15-18 feet, and shoots ~50% from the line. I think TT can do some good coming back. That doesn’t scream NBA game to me.

julien lewis was something like 1-6 on 3pt shots. probably wouldn’t use this as his highlight film.

I liked his form, though. Much like Hamilton, Lewis is going to have to learn what is a good shot and what isn’t.

He HAS to shoot FTs well because he will spend a lot of time shooting freebies in his career.

That was the ugliest few minutes of basketball I’ve seen in a long time. Horrendous shot selection; the word “pass” can’t even be used anywhere near that video, much less the word “assist.”

If those two teams are ranked 2 and 3 in the state, I’d hate to see the unranked teams.

I’m going to have to disagree with you there, I mean, he’s not shack, but he’s got an awful lot of motion on those free throws. It seems to me he’d be more consistent with a shorter stroke from the line.

I also thought on his jump shot, he was shooting a bit late i.e. as he was coming down. Even so, Ridley was the best player on the floor if you ask me. Certainly nothing to be concerned about.
