Don’t sleep on St John’s in the tournament. They may be the second best team in the Big East right now.

Of course a guy with a name like Doc Sadler is going to be crafty. It was preordained.

Here we go. Watch how they play Balbay, if they guard him they’re nuts.
by Trips Right on Feb 19, 2011 12:47 PM CST reply actions
Horrible call. He didn’t even have the rock.
by Trips Right on Feb 19, 2011 12:49 PM CST reply actions
Secondary break for the win. Got to keep doing that.
by Trips Right on Feb 19, 2011 12:50 PM CST reply actions
The pace is really good for us. Just need hit shots and identify their shooters.

looking for JCB now, theyre not letting any drives to the basket
by scagnetti on Feb 19, 2011 12:56 PM CST reply actions
He;s in now. Let’s see. Now that’s huge! Watch the driving lanes open up after that JCovan 3.

Shoot the ball Jordan, you’re our finisher.

hey Trips, who are the assistants on RB’s staff?
particularly the bespectacled fella on his left?

and which one is todd wright?
i gotta see what that guy looks like
by scagnetti on Feb 19, 2011 1:00 PM CST reply actions
JH seems to be playing a little too loose, a glimpse of last year
by scagnetti on Feb 19, 2011 1:02 PM CST reply actions
scag, it’s either springmann or terry. Switch back and forth to st john’s pitt so I haven’t seen him.
by Trips Right on Feb 19, 2011 1:05 PM CST reply actions
Rich Zvosek is an idiot. i covered him as a student sports editor at UMKC almost ten years ago, was the first to call for his job, and they promptly went on an 11-0 streak in january in the old Mid-Con, and was then given an extension he never finished. Matt Brown, Beliene’s old assistant is the 3rd year head coach for The Roos now.and theyre over .500 for the first time since that run in 04-05
and Mitch hultus! voice of the kansas city chiefs, smart guy… for football.

I’m not sure i would zone against this lineup.

Does anyone have a link for those outside of Texas to watch the game live? ESPN3 says that the game is blacked out?!?!

I’d love a non-ESPN3 link. My VPN is crapping out today.
by Garry Crowbar on Feb 19, 2011 1:12 PM CST reply actions
You can’t zone Brown, Joseph, and Hamilton. Just dumb.

Wangmane is contagious, even opponents travel around him.

Phenomenal difference between our ineptitude against zone last year and now.
by nobis60 on Feb 19, 2011 1:14 PM CST reply actions
Some serious passing skills on display. All we need to do now is stop traveling and corral a rebound.

HOly shit what an ending in the St john’s game. Hardy with a length of a court drive to knock off pitt by 1. Johnnies are for real!

When Hamilton struggles, we are going to struggle. Luckily, JCB decided to show up today. He is the difference right now. If Jordan heats up, we should pull away, if not, it could be a tough one. We needed a good physical test for a half. Let’s see how we react this 2nd half.

I’d start going under that ballscreen because Walker doesn’t want to shoot it. That’d cure our penetration problem.

i feel it should be JCB, CJ, GJ, MH & TT

This is what I thought would happen to us early in the season against teams with big frontcourts, but we’ve done a great job of handling it to this point. These guys don’t have an ounce of skill and we’re letting them just body the fuck out of us to do whatever they want.
by nobis60 on Feb 19, 2011 2:11 PM CST reply actions
Down 13 for the half. Gotta believe that’s the low point.

by ransomstoddard on Feb 19, 2011 2:14 PM CST reply actions
Job one from here on in needs to be fouling out Almeida – this fat fuck is having a career with bullshit hooks that he hasn’t made before or since.

We need to attack this tubby bitch almeida, and foul him out. He has just dominated our prep All-American bigs…
by Grateful Horn on Feb 19, 2011 2:15 PM CST reply actions
Gonna have to start trapping that weave, we’re alllowing them to reverse the ball on our post defenders and we can’t get around. Be nice if we could start going up and down with these cats. No way Almeida can run with us.

Really poor job of Barnes and the staff of preparing for this game. NU did the same thing to KU at KU. Simple film review would have showed the goofy dribble weave offense they run and they packed in zone look on defense. Sadler is not a very good coach and the stuff he runs is grade school level. Easy to prepare for. Looks like we are hurrying to take our loss and come home.

Man Doc Sadler is a whiny bitch.
Nebraska got what they needed for an upset. Poor shooting night from our starters and opportune offensive rebounds. I agreed we should have started to press earlier. I did not see this one coming. Oh well. Lets hope we learn something from this.
Our goals are all still alive. Win the big 12 and earn a high seed in the San Antonio regional. Then we hope for good matchups and some upsets.

by nilboghorn on Feb 19, 2011 3:13 PM CST reply actions
Deep breath, Horn fans. Rather have this type of game now in the Big 12 regular season than in the NCAA tournament. This team needed this. A Physical (fat) Mugging in a 1/2 court game where we had to play from behind. Let’s hope we’re better prepared the next time we face a similar opponent, because the same recipe by an inferior opponent — see USC — is a lead pipe given. Barnes now has a ton of video at his disposal in which to provice “teachable moments.”
by AKHorn on Feb 19, 2011 3:18 PM CST reply actions
Really appreciate the measured response here unless other sites.
We simply had a bad game against a team who hates us. JH had the worst shooting day of the year with a lot of open looks. And with as awful as we played, we had it tied late in the game.
The undefeated season would have been nice if we were a mainly junior and senior team. This team needs to have a bit of adversity before March to continue to grow.
by LonghornsWin on Feb 19, 2011 6:17 PM CST reply actions
What’s Brown doing?
Screwing up the play. Barnes was pissed and rightfully so. Brown was supposed to kick it back to Hamilton. JH acted like a bitch right after the game. We do not need any back biting among teammates right now.
This was a “trap” game all the way. Nebraska (despite what some may think) is a pretty good team, and Doc is a good defensive coach. We got in late, got up early (this was the earliest tip off we have had in quite a while), and then got outhustled. JCB is so damn bi-polar that I can’t bear to watch. If he makes all three of those free throw I guarantee you that Nebraska would have crawled into a hole.
Oh well, it will probably help the Big 12 get 7 teams into the tournament.
by srr50 on Feb 19, 2011 6:33 PM CST reply actions
Someone who dvd’d the game might be able to confirm … but, it appeared there was some bickering between Brown and a team mate as they left the floor at halftime, too.

Virginia,
That wasn’t Brown. It was his J’Cousin.
by gazmorida on Feb 19, 2011 7:58 PM CST reply actions
In Big 12 play, for 3 point shots, Jordan is hitting 37%, Cory is hitting 50% (!), and Brown is hitting 40%.
In Big 12 games, for free throw shooting percentages, Wangmene leads the team (!) with 87%, then Jordan with 83%, followed by Brown at 77%, then Cory with 74%.
by Kafka on Feb 20, 2011 2:06 AM CST reply actions
I know we have a young team. I know we have an at times emotionally immature team. I’m not a basketball guru. But some of the shit that happened in the last minute or so of that game, was absolutely infuriating. Barnes could be the worst in-game coach of all time, and/or the players have no idea of some basic fundamentals of basketball and sports psychology.
First, we should have never been in that game at the end. Two separate occasions where we were fouled to shoot 3 three free throws.. Nebraska clearly couldn’t handle the pressure. But when diaz got the ball with around 30 seconds left off the inbound pass, he should have been fouled immediately. At that point the game was tied. Conventional wisdom would say “oh play good defense and get the ball back.” But diaz had just blown two free throws. He was a 60% free throw shooter on the season. The odds were that he was going to blow two more with even more pressure on. Instead, we fuck around for twenty seconds, let one of their better shooters get to the line and drain two free throws.
Then, with 12 seconds left, Texas decides to go for either a 10 second violation or a steal… They wasted way to much time, which gave them little time to pull off a last second shot. They should have fouled immediately.\
I love this team. I bet them 30/1 odds to win it all about a month ago. But after seeing how rattled they looked tonight, well let’s just hope we get the southwest region where we would only have to go to Tulsa, San antonio and Houston. Cause our boys looked scared and confused by a morbidly obese cornhusker (p90x bitch), and a former Cincinnati footballer.
I have been saying for a long time that I think J’Covan Blood is our best natural basketball player. The kid just looks fluid out there. Behavior problems aside, he is fun to watch. I don’t have any problem with him taking that last shot. But if the play was designed differently, the perception now is that obviously JCB is subversive for his personal glory. Or maybe it was his cousin who took the shot….
by TJ Chevy on Feb 20, 2011 8:39 AM CST reply actions
I think the angst at the end of the first half between Barnes and Joseph was all about Joseph pushing the action into the lane and drawing a foul with 30 seconds left and the shot clock off. If Texas holds for the last shot, Horns go to the half up by 9 at the worst and possibly up 11 or 12.
Instead Joseph clanked the front end of a one-and-one and Nebraska is able to cut it 7 at halftime. Who knows if that swing would have made the difference at the end of the game . . . However, this time of year every possession counts in a game like that.
Seems like Cory did that one other time earlier this year, too. Better now that in the tournament.

Ok. So now I am hooked on Barking Carnival and I have gone to the site 10 times today looking for the Trips Right Post Mortem. I listened to the game on XM Radio (no ESPN3). I could not understand how NU shredded our D with their personnel. Curious to know what Trips Right and Bob In Houston believe caused the breakdown and if other coaches can exploit the NU gameplan.
by Granite Bay Longhorn on Feb 20, 2011 5:34 PM CST reply actions
TJ Chevy, do you honestly think there is any coach in the world who would choose to foul in a tie game with 30 seconds left and arguably the best defense in the country? Yikes…

Any team with a 340 lb. center and heavy weight PF who can both shoulder into our bigs three times in a row and move them 10 feet will cause us problems. Don’t know how many times this happened yesterday, but it was pretty often. I was hoping to see the flop to draw the charge, but I don’t think we would have gotten the call.
