Missouri Hires Frank Haith
maybe.
There are various reports that after being turned down by Purdue coach Matt Painter, Missouri has turned to Frank Haith, a former Rick Barnes assistant here at UT who has been the head coach at Miami for 7 years.
Reaction to the proposed hiring has been decidedly underwhelming -- ranging from "huh?" from the St. Louis media to outright ridicule.
The Missouri fans seems to be expressing a collective "meh" over the hiring. Haith has a Big 12 background, having spent 4 years as an assistant coach at Texas A&M as well as 4 years on Barnes' staff at Texas.

Frank Haith was 129-101 in seven years at Miami, but was only 43-69 in the ACC, and made the NCAA Tournament just one time.
The proposed hiring will not be finalized until the University of Missouri Board of Curators votes on it tonight, and at least one member has expressed real apprehension over the matter. Board member David Wasinger has said that "The board is going to have a lot of questions."
Wasinger also suggested that Missouri alumni should express their feelings about Haith to board members before tonight's meeting.

To me, the possibility of Frank Martin heading to Miami is as interesting as Haith’s hiring at Mizzou.

I can definitely understand the disappointment of Mizzou fans on this hire.

Here’s how much I know about college basketball: I’ve never heard of this guy.

The only rationale for this hire is they think Haith can recruit Texas. Texas fans may remember him as the assistant that helped land LaMarcus Aldridge and Daniel Gibson. Miami isn’t a basketball hotbed school by any means, but one NCAA appearance in 8 years, especially with these last few being a weak ACC, is anything but good.
In response, Kim English and Laurence Bowers declared for the draft (just “testing the waters”, as they say). So yeah, the Haith regime has started off swimmingly. Suffice to say that wouldn’t have happened if Matt Painter had been the hire.

Really poor hire. The guy can recruit but he may be the worst X and O guy in the conference. Just has no idea on the offensive end.

Rumor has it his first move will be to bring Jeff Capel in as an assistant according to the St Louis paper.

Lon Kruger – OU
Billy Clyde — Tech
Frank Haith – Missouri
My first impression is that Billy Clyde at Tech is better for us than having him at OU — or Missouri for that matter.

If Haith is the worst X and O guy in the ACC, where does that put him in the big 12? Better than Barnes? Worse?

The X and O situation can be resolved if he hires the right assistants. Lavin and St John’s this year is a good example with bringing in Gene Keady. If he does hire Capel, that would seem to be a recognition on his part that he needs help in that area. This has always been my beef with Barnes – seems like we hire assistants that are great recruiters, but continue to lack any offensive identity when we don’t have a lights out point guard.

Capel is a great Xs and Os guy, as long as one of those Xs is Blake Griffin.
