Dana Holgorsen Walks Into A Bar...

...and apparently gets unruly trying to figure out how coaches (or coaches-in-waiting, my lady) can start to get their hijinks included in their team's Fulmer Cup standings.

As you know, we're big Holgorsen fans. Whether he's diagramming plays, possibly with a hangover or talking X's and O's and humor on the radio, he's good for the game. Or at least good for the blogs.

On to the latest episode.

Multiple sources told the Charleston Daily Mail Holgorsen was removed from Mardi Gras Casino & Resort after 3 a.m. May 18. Holgorsen had been at a Mountaineer Athletic Club function earlier in the day in Logan before spending the evening at the casino with other university representatives.

Dude will not abide a subpar Beignet after seven or eight Hurricanes. I don't blame him.

...according to the report, the entire incident -- whatever it was -- was caught on the casino's video surveillance.

Oh please!!!!

Whatever the problem was, representatives from West Virginia who were at the casino with Holgorsen then intervened, and Holgorsen was then removed from the casino. Holgorsen was not arrested and it's believed he was released under the supervision of his fellow West Virginia representatives.

Forget it, Jake. It's Morgantown.

UPDATE: The Big East has cancelled AD meetings because Oliver Luck had to go deal with Holgo.

Do you like this story?

yes, sailor, and it is important to remember that things up there (ahem-rich rod-ahem) don’t usually see the light of day. for them (the locals, not the school) to make this available to the public suggests very strongly that there is considerably more to know.

not an auspicious beginning.

another thing.

i don’t know that w virgina does things like oklahoma does, but the sooners use the press to pat down the grass before running somebody off. through news articles, they turn the opinion of the sooner fans who actually believe the decency stories about the sooner program against the fingered party. that way the blood-letting is seen in a favorable light.

certainly doesn’t sound like the w vagina folks are pushing this story, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. they wouldn’t want it to appear that they are. just like in norman.

What so the Sooners’ have to do with any of this? I’m judt glad Mack was wise enough to stay away from this one.

only the way the post said. no other connection that i am aware of.

just meant to suggest that as a possible reason for the news people to make this available to the public. one of several possibilities, i think. i very seriously doubt the news people would run this story without either sanction from the school or a strong sense of the need to speak even without sanction. morgantown is not austin, and this sort of exposure is unexpected. i bet there was plenty to air on rich rod that never saw light of day.

i don’t imagine mack could have hired this guy even if he had wanted to. too much smoke.

A man who drinks alcohol to excess, in a gambling casino? The mind reels.

Is that the sort of person we want to have in charge of the young men who will one day be our … well, whatever?

At least he wasn’t in his hotel room, surrounded by beer, reefer, and nubbly coeds… this time.

I am shocked – shocked – to find Dana Holgerson in a casino.

Just taking a guess, but you haven’t lived in Oklahoma for very long, have you? I know you wouldn’t be arrogant enough or stupid enough, being a UT fan, to make that statement without actually living there. I say this because you should know by now that Oklahomans treat the Daily Oklahoman, and the state media outlets as a whole, as having the journalistic value of the National Enquirer: entertaining, to be sure, but factually useless.

A friend is a WVU fanatic. He was positively orgasmic telling me about Holgorsen’s offense and the 87 points it produced in their spring game. Holgorsen will fit nicely in Morganhood.

Back off the Enquirer. They got both John Edwards and Bat Boy* right when the lamestream media wouldn’t touch either story.

(*was actually the “Weekly World News” but I have a point to make here, dammit)

SmokingMusket Tweetblast: Source within Lottery Commission informs that Holgorsen was involved in nearly identical incident at Wheeling Island Casino last month.

Talked to my agent today about playing Holgerson in the upcoming movie I’m pitching it to Disney as a combination of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Charlie Sheen and We are Marshall.

A feel good story about gambling, casinos, coeds and redemption. And the best part is I won’t even have to go to make up to play Dana.

Unfortunately Disney is balking because we haven’t written the redemption part yet.
