Here is to hoping Sam earns a big bonus from the Yankees tonight.

The key is to keep it at 2 and hope to chip away at the lead.
by CrazyJoeDavola on Jun 12, 2011 6:12 PM CDT reply actions
OK, we got back 1 of the runs, 2-1 ASU. Lambsdon is not, in fact, starting; it’s Otteson (sp?)

“xorge” must be the hip, new age spelling of the traditional “jorge”

I rarely root against bust, but Go Horns. Lets take this game.
by Big Horn on Jun 12, 2011 6:36 PM CDT reply actions
I am all for the KC alums representing, but is it a really good thing that the fastest player on the Texas roster is a pitcher?
Something tells me it wasn’t like that when Tim Moss or Drew Stubbs was on the roster, I know Brooks was a helluva an athlete though Calvin was faster, and I damn well would take Bates over Swindell.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 6:47 PM CDT reply actions
Come on, Loy … THAT was the time for a little patience to get a pitch to drive.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 12, 2011 6:50 PM CDT reply actions
This may be an understatement, but Walsh has made an awful decision with just about every pitch he’s seen today. A medium outside fastball knee high is the perfect team pitch right there, and the bat didn’t lift off his shoulders.
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 6:56 PM CDT reply actions
ASU got screwed there on that interference call.
I’ll take the out though.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 12, 2011 7:09 PM CDT reply actions
That’s some serious home cookin’ on that call.
by Blueshorn on Jun 12, 2011 7:11 PM CDT reply actions
Can anyone explain, given Augie’s perspective, why Walsh is getting ABs?
by Little Burt on Jun 12, 2011 7:13 PM CDT reply actions
So I was watching that and thinking the umps made the right call then got it wrong, but now I think it was the right call. If the catcher wants to make the throw he needs to be able to do it. It’s not a dead ball. The batter stepped into the batters box and impeded the throw. If it’s not the right call, the batter could just stand on home plate until the runner made it to third. Right?
by A-Tex Devil on Jun 12, 2011 7:14 PM CDT reply actions
Wow! The interference call was a total gift, but you’ve got to hand it to Augie for throwing the argument out there and the umps buying it.
by AKHorn on Jun 12, 2011 7:16 PM CDT reply actions
What’s crazy is if HPU calls (non-existent) interference. It’s a dead ball no matter. On a walk, runners advance. Walk before interference means first-and-second, one out. Under no circumstance should either runner, in that situation, be called out, or advance and additional base.
So while he shouldn’t be allowed third base, he shouldn’t have been called out either.
Lucky lucky break. Malevolent group think.
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 7:17 PM CDT reply actions
Walsh needs to sit; where is Walla? I’ve seen Walsh watch or whiff on strike three too many times!
by Bubba on Jun 12, 2011 7:17 PM CDT reply actions
A-Tex, that’s gracious of you to say but … we got a break. IMO.
Now whether or not we do anything with it is very much an open-ended question.
by CrazyJoeDavola on Jun 12, 2011 7:18 PM CDT reply actions
Right, my thinking is that one cannot interfere on a ball 4. Should have been ASU with runners on 1st and 2nd, no out assessed.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 12, 2011 7:20 PM CDT reply actions
Lusson just had a fantastic at bat. Really well done.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 12, 2011 7:21 PM CDT reply actions
The primary difference being, if there is NO interference called – and it was called! – Ball 4 is still a live ball.
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 7:25 PM CDT reply actions
He was and never got one. Gotta tip yer hat on that.
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 7:29 PM CDT reply actions
The worst hitting team Texas has had in I don’t know fucking when and I remember Spike and that gang.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 7:31 PM CDT reply actions
I agree the interference call itself was gracious. But if it WAS interference, I think it’s the right interpretation.
by A-Tex Devil on Jun 12, 2011 7:31 PM CDT reply actions
Wow. Bases loaded, no one out, and we get nothing.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 12, 2011 7:31 PM CDT reply actions
This is a weird game. They shouldnt be pitching there, and Tant was looking for where they should (usually) pitch. And first ball swinging bases loaded with two outs? Criminal.
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 7:32 PM CDT reply actions
Now that I think of it, Tommy Harmon and Connie Clark look alot alike. Anyone seen them in the same place at the same time?
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 7:32 PM CDT reply actions
I also think interference = automatic out. So someone had to be out if the umps deemed it interference. The equitable thing is 1st and 2nd, but the baseball rules are pretty black and white.
Bases loaded no outs, though. Ugh.
by A-Tex Devil on Jun 12, 2011 7:33 PM CDT reply actions
Wow. Back-to-back innings where runs were there to be had. How many squandered chances can a Punch-and-Judy offense afford to piss away?
by AKHorn on Jun 12, 2011 7:33 PM CDT reply actions
Just need a lazy fly ball there. Walks don’t get you off the island.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 7:37 PM CDT reply actions
“Now that I think of it, Tommy Harmon and Connie Clark look alot alike.”
They both bear strong resemblances to Rick Barnes and Greg Davis, too.
I’m not sure when our university decided to quit giving a shit about offense. Maybe it’s a sporting measure to counterbalance our mad revenue collectin’ skillz?
by CrazyJoeDavola on Jun 12, 2011 7:37 PM CDT reply actions
Ha ha, and Loy smashes one in the hole. Timing is everything.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 7:39 PM CDT reply actions
Now that’s power baseball. Mind fuck them into a balk.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 7:46 PM CDT reply actions
Why is it a balk? The pitcher doesn’t have to pitch from the stretch … meaning he doesn’t have to come set.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 12, 2011 7:46 PM CDT reply actions
Where is Huck? I want to know the probability of having a runner on 3rd base with 1 out or less and the HPU being the biggest offensive threat when the Horns are hitting.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 7:49 PM CDT reply actions
Striking out looking over and over in the clutch says something terrible about these players’ hitting mindsets.
by Ryan on Jun 12, 2011 7:50 PM CDT reply actions
Thank gawd the umps are scoring runs for us because our players are doing everything they can not to…
by scagnetti on Jun 12, 2011 7:50 PM CDT reply actions
This is a terrible hitting UT team. Replace strikeouts with fly balls and this is a 5-2 game. I’m not sure this club could do any damage in Omaha.
This game is tied by the grace of the HPU. Sadly, I don’t know whether to attribute favoritism or incompetence.
by Dmitri Kissov on Jun 12, 2011 7:57 PM CDT reply actions
I’m guessing this umpire crew is one of ASU’s sanctions.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 7:57 PM CDT reply actions
Our pitching staff is pretty salty, though.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 7:59 PM CDT reply actions
I agree with VaHorn,
Could having Loy, Etier, or Sheppard try to squeeze in those situations be any less effective At least there is a chance ASU makes a mistake.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 8:00 PM CDT reply actions
Nice job Payton … but, why aren’t you standing on second base right now?
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 12, 2011 8:09 PM CDT reply actions
Nomar is telling me that’s a big run for Texas. Thanks Nomar.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 8:10 PM CDT reply actions
Viginia, no shit. Have to make ASU cut that throw off.
by Trips Right on Jun 12, 2011 8:11 PM CDT reply actions
There must be some invisible shield around second base … no one seems to be able to catch a ball thrown in that direction.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 12, 2011 8:14 PM CDT reply actions
Funny how when you are aggressive good thinks happen.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 8:14 PM CDT reply actions
Interesting that the Horns got something going with 2 outs (eliminating the bunt). With no outs, it makes sense to bunt a man on 1st into scoring position. I disagree, however, that it’s axiomatic to bunt the man to 3rd. As poorly as this team hits, it makes no apparent sense to bunt yourself out of a chance for a big inning.
by Dmitri Kissov on Jun 12, 2011 8:14 PM CDT reply actions
A good throw doesn’t get Payton. Nice.
Nomah is wicked horrible

Brandon fucking Loy! RBI double on a 3-2 2 out pitch…4-2 Texas!

Is that FSU-A&M score in the top right corner from the ESPN Classic rerunning the Cotton Bowl game between those two schools?
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 8:17 PM CDT reply actions
btw, the Dallas Mavericks are up on the Heat 53-51 at the half and Nowitzki is 1-12 from the field. I’m likin the Mavs’ chances.

Milner is straight dealing, 1-2-3 7th.
by burnt orange outrage on Jun 12, 2011 8:22 PM CDT reply actions
LSU … the year they beat us in the finals (2009), they had terrific player who also played on their football team. He was seriously injured in a car accident the next year right around the draft, if I recall correctly. Anyone know what happened to him?
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 12, 2011 8:22 PM CDT reply actions
Chad Jones. He’s still trying to come back.
by A-Tex Devil on Jun 12, 2011 8:28 PM CDT reply actions
Milner is a fucking man. Another 1-2-3 inning.
by burnt orange outrage on Jun 12, 2011 8:32 PM CDT reply actions
Thank-you, Devil. Sure hope he has a successful recovery … although, I’m not especially anxious to see him play for the Giants. Again, thanks.

Thank-you, Drew. That kid’s facing a real uphill battle … but, he seems ready to take on the challenge. Best of Luck to him.

So we held ASU, who is supposed to be one of the best hitting teams in the country, to what, 7 runs in 3 games?
by ut-06 on Jun 12, 2011 8:47 PM CDT reply actions
Now we get Florida. They hit 5 HRs, today. Hope our pitching shows up.
by Blueshorn on Jun 12, 2011 8:48 PM CDT reply actions
Florida hit 5 home runs today. Zunino has 18 alone on the season, more than the entire Texas team.
Pitching better be nails.
by Vasherized on Jun 12, 2011 8:50 PM CDT reply actions
Defending champ gamecocks just dogpiled the mound for winning the super regional. Hmmmm…
by Vasherized on Jun 12, 2011 8:53 PM CDT reply actions
Did A&M score again? Last I saw, they trailed by two touchdowns to FSU…
by Tex Long on Jun 12, 2011 8:56 PM CDT reply actions
We ain’t skeered of Florida. I think Jungmann is going to show them why he’s the No. 12 pick in the draft. It’s one helluva bracket though with us, Fla, Vandy and UNC.
by burnt orange outrage on Jun 12, 2011 8:57 PM CDT reply actions
Still think we’da took LSU if Augie had let Jungmann close the first game instead of yanking him and gutting the offense with d-subs.
by Tex Long on Jun 12, 2011 9:03 PM CDT reply actions
Carolina dog-piled this afternoon, too. Lightweight.
by Blueshorn on Jun 12, 2011 9:08 PM CDT reply actions
Jungmann vs. Florida should be real interesting. A good week’s rest and maybe some encouragement form his offense scrapping a bit and maybe T26 can hold em in check.
How Is Florida’s pitching?
by 2xhorn on Jun 12, 2011 9:25 PM CDT reply actions
Florida dogpiled too. Dunno bout the Cocks. They should know better.

Why are DBU and Cal playing at a high school field?
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 9:56 PM CDT reply actions
Joke? I think it’s Santa Clara College (now University) – Cal’s is being renovated.
This is an interesting story, as Cal’s baseball program was scuttled by the Admin, but rescued by boosters, and apparently they even came up with buckage to do some much-needed work on the park, which was scheduled before Cal got into the playoffs and already started… or something.
by Tex Long on Jun 12, 2011 10:03 PM CDT reply actions
Why not play at Stanford.
Seriously?
That’s like A&M and FSU playing at Disch-Falk.
by Steve Ross on Jun 12, 2011 10:13 PM CDT reply actions
Yes seriously. They have played at that field multiple times.
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 12, 2011 10:18 PM CDT reply actions
Great night at the Disch! Beautiful weather and another fucking year off my life. This team is killimg me! Oh well, it’s off the back end so I guess it doesn’t matter.
To answer a previous question, we surrendered four earned runs in three games to a damned good team that was known for its excellent hitting. ASU is a very good team, but we’re Texas, warts and all. The home cooking tasted good tonight. The last Payton at bat was some sweet baseball.
by Frank The Plank on Jun 13, 2011 12:50 AM CDT reply actions
UNC dogpiled and their coach hugged everyone in the dugout and they have been to 5 of the last 6. No wonder they haven’t won it all.
by jinx on Jun 13, 2011 7:59 AM CDT reply actions
After Walla caught the last out, he, Payton and another player did a three way chest bump at the CF logo. Augie had some choice words for them as they came off the field.
Good stuff!
