Based on what I’ve seen from UNC, the teams seem very similar. I had to rush home at lunch to set this game to record, but I can’t wait to watch it this evening…

If we can win this bad weather might have vandy and UF going tomorrow. Could be a big advantage to our staff.
by Savage Henry on Jun 20, 2011 1:22 PM CDT reply actions
I think that was outside. Hopefully he’ll be consistent.
by Drew Dunlevie on Jun 20, 2011 1:26 PM CDT reply actions
If he’s gonna call that a strike on righties, then we’re already in a hole. NC has seven left handers, and he’s giving their pitchers the Avery/Glavine zone. Bullshit.

didn’t think I could use espn3, but shaggy posted a way around it.
by chitwood on Jun 20, 2011 1:37 PM CDT reply actions
This team is as frustrating as the basketball team.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 1:46 PM CDT reply actions
That’s enough, Tommy.
Awesome.
Our vaunted pitching ain’t so much, it seems. They are hitting Cole hard with regularity.
by Drew Dunlevie on Jun 20, 2011 1:49 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah apparently our pitching isn’t quite as stellar as advertised.
by Wyatt on Jun 20, 2011 1:52 PM CDT reply actions
When you’re a pitching and fielding team, and you can’t pitch or field, you’re screwed.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 1:52 PM CDT reply actions
It’s a lot easier to pitch to contact when your team can put crooked numbers on the board.
by Kevin Berger on Jun 20, 2011 1:56 PM CDT reply actions
Texas can’t hit. They can’t field. They can’t pitch. But, boy oh boy, can the Longhorns bunt.
by BrickHorn on Jun 20, 2011 1:59 PM CDT reply actions
Wait. Did I say the Longhorns could bunt? Guess I was wrong.
by BrickHorn on Jun 20, 2011 2:10 PM CDT reply actions
Well … the Horns can pound those 200’ fly balls.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 20, 2011 2:12 PM CDT reply actions
That wasn’t on the bunt, it was on Felts. He stood there watching the bunt like he didn’t know it was going to happen, no jump at all. If he moves on the bunt, he is safe.
This team is dumber than shit right now.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 2:12 PM CDT reply actions
I agree, Juice. Agree completely. That doesn’t negate the fact that these guys are frustrating as hell. Physical limitations are one thing; when you can’t throw strikes, pitch high in the zone, and make dumbass fielding and baserunning mistakes, it’s as bad as wasting exceptional talent, in my opinion.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 2:17 PM CDT reply actions
pitching to contact isn’t working out for us right now
by stilltrying on Jun 20, 2011 2:21 PM CDT reply actions
Nice bunt jinx, Brickhorn. That’s all we had left.
UNC pitcher is throwing strikes. Plenty of pitches to hit, theoretically.
by Vasherized on Jun 20, 2011 2:27 PM CDT reply actions
How ironic that a guy named “bunting” would lead the charge in kicking our ass.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 2:37 PM CDT reply actions
Fuck this game, I’m out. We can’t do anything right.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 2:42 PM CDT reply actions
Now that you mention irony … how ’bout a guy named “Fleece” playing for a$m?
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 20, 2011 2:43 PM CDT reply actions
How ironic that a guy named "bunting" would lead the charge in kicking our ass.
That would be like a Gilbert pick-six to a cornerback named Tueyard Swingpass.
by BrickHorn on Jun 20, 2011 2:48 PM CDT reply actions
how the hell is it only 2-0 with all our boneheaded, shitty plays?
by Savage Henry on Jun 20, 2011 2:50 PM CDT reply actions
This game makes for tough viewing.
I’ve never seen a game where 2-0 seems so insurmountable.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 20, 2011 3:10 PM CDT reply actions
It will be a long time before Omaha forgets about this powerful Longhorn offense!
by Savage Henry on Jun 20, 2011 3:10 PM CDT reply actions
Looks like maybe I should have saved some of last nights Rudy’s for today. #2&Que
by Savage Henry on Jun 20, 2011 3:12 PM CDT reply actions
I hope they’re fed that godawful “Carolina style” pork BBQ chopped to shit and soaked in vinegar. Perfectly fitting of their performance. They might remember the bad taste.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 20, 2011 3:18 PM CDT reply actions
Walla is the last guy I’d bring in as a pinch hitter right now.
by Vasherized on Jun 20, 2011 3:28 PM CDT reply actions
Dang… took a late late lunch so I could watch this. Horrible shit, worse than watching pigs eat dead babies. We really don’t belong at this show. Maybe the Iggies will follow suit and we won’t be inundated with idoitrolls…
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 3:30 PM CDT reply actions
Does Garrido’s small ball games just suck the power out of a line-up? Does it cause power strokes to atrophy from lack of exercise? Does it result in a nickle and dime attitude to scoring runs? Is it like feeding salt peter to the marines? Who knows, but it just is not fun to watch.
Trying to figure out if the approach is taking the aggressiveness out of the players or if Augie has adopted the strategy because of the lack of power on the team generally.
by Major Cult on Jun 20, 2011 3:40 PM CDT reply actions
This team would strike out in a slow pitch softball game in the church league
by ransomstoddard on Jun 20, 2011 3:42 PM CDT reply actions
Pop up, pop up, K, pop up, pop up, K, pop up … I’d like to see balls hit ON THE GROUND just to see if UNC can field and throw.
by VirginiaLonghorn on Jun 20, 2011 3:43 PM CDT reply actions
lack of power on the team generally.
Yeppers, ’twas a sad day when recruiting was outlawed.
Truth to tell, I haven’t followed baseball recruiting at all. Have we been unable to get the guys we wanted, or are we getting the wrong guys, or WTF?
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 3:43 PM CDT reply actions
If 2 looked insurmountable, 3 is a black hole.
by Major Cult on Jun 20, 2011 3:54 PM CDT reply actions
Feeling hopelessly resigned?
Look at the bright side – we gotta new motto: “Texas – We Used To Be Good.”
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 3:56 PM CDT reply actions
When you can’t hit, don’t run the bases well and play average defense, eventually it will catch up to you.
by Bartoncreek on Jun 20, 2011 4:01 PM CDT reply actions
4 hits against a pitcher that couldn’t break cellophane. Awful. Like watching our anemic football team’s offense.
by ransomstoddard on Jun 20, 2011 4:02 PM CDT reply actions
4 hit shutout. Two and a ’cue for Texas.
Augie will credit UNC pitching.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 20, 2011 4:03 PM CDT reply actions
If Augie is going to win another one, he is going to have to do a lot of self evaluation. We are about as good as we can get playing this style. I don’t think Augie will be happy just making it to Omaha with no honest shot at winning it. Every year it will be harder to recruit sluggers.
by Bartoncreek on Jun 20, 2011 4:05 PM CDT reply actions
In 32+ years of watching UT baseball, this is the first year I would say that the red raiders had better corner outfielders….and probably so does the WAYA U12 all star team.
by OLDfan on Jun 20, 2011 4:05 PM CDT reply actions
Two flat games. Pity. The field has no overwhelming favorites.
by OldTimeHorn on Jun 20, 2011 4:06 PM CDT reply actions
There may be no overwhelming favorites, but there was a decidedly underwhelming participant, and that was Texas.
The offense was embarrassing, the pitching didn’t live up to it’s billing, and we did nothing defensively to show that we were anything special.
This past year has been awful for Texas athletics.
by Orangeblood79 on Jun 20, 2011 4:09 PM CDT reply actions
In the last two years, Texas has averaged 1.4 rpg in their 5 postseason losses.

Well, we beat that average this year. Unfortunately, we needed 7 a game to keep playing…
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 4:17 PM CDT reply actions
Well said barton creek. No way you will recruit powerful kids with thick wrists playing this style of ball. They will run and hide from Garrido.
by Major Cult on Jun 20, 2011 4:19 PM CDT reply actions
I insist we recruit no one with a ulnar radius smaller than Harmon Killebrew.
by Scipio Tex on Jun 20, 2011 4:23 PM CDT reply actions
“This past year has been awful for Texas athletics.”
Reaching the CWS a little better than “awful” but agree 0-2 is a disappointing way to end
by Texastough on Jun 20, 2011 4:27 PM CDT reply actions
I think you mean a radial ulna… and Harmon wore a 44 Waist, which – although not strictly circular – translates to an average radial measurement of 7" (14" diameter, of course).
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 4:29 PM CDT reply actions
This team is built like they eat at Nkwopara’s training table.
by Matt Cotcher on Jun 20, 2011 4:30 PM CDT reply actions
Seven runs, seven inches… there’s a trend showing.
by Tex Long on Jun 20, 2011 4:31 PM CDT reply actions
Hear, hear, Scip. We will call it the Ulnar Axiom
by Major Cult on Jun 20, 2011 4:32 PM CDT reply actions
Small ball by itself shouldn’t be a deterrent to recruiting hitters: Gus played it too; its a Texas tradition. Our recruiting seems to have finally uncoupled itself from the greater Centex area, but I’m not sure that means Tommy’s gotten off his ass. Augie recruits via phone only.
Maybe this was just a series of classes that didn’t pan out at the plate.
by 2xHorn on Jun 20, 2011 7:59 PM CDT reply actions
I should add that Skip has done a masterful job of recruiting and coaching up the hurlers. So I lay this at Harmon’s feet to the extent blame is a useful concept. Generally I find it isn’t.
by 2xHorn on Jun 20, 2011 8:02 PM CDT reply actions
Hopefully after watching this game Hinojosa won’t listen to those whispering in his ear that his talents will be wasted in Austin.
I look at this team and not only don’t see power, there are few contact hitters, little to no speed, and really don’t show much grasp for base running.
