Will Lyles and The Yahoo Specter
My various inboxes be filling up with news of Lance Zierlein's twitter stream which makes for some entertaining reading this late a.m.
NCAA on the prowl:

If one of my sources are correct, Yahoo will have a piece with Will Lyles that will put a couple of colleges in harm's way regarding NCAA

I know that the Texas Longhorns are getting ready to get some unwanted attention thanks to the Yahoo piece with Lyles that is coming out
The Ketch jumps in:

@LanceZierlein I've received zero advance warning about any Longhorn related issues with a Yahoo investigation. We would know.
Zierlein goes on to say that the source is very close to Lyles.
.bbpBox86088489795469312 {background:url(http://a0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/66049261/SlapFest3_049.jpg) #9AE4E8;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block}
@mikellyoung Source is very close to Lyles, it will probably be out in next three days and Yahoo is writing the piece.
Perhaps it's Will's good friend, "Lefty"?
Then this:
.bbpBox86113635340009474 {background:url(http://a0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/66049261/SlapFest3_049.jpg) #9AE4E8;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block}
As i said before, yahoo article with Lyles may bring "unwanted attention" to schools but might not become anything more than that
So now we're not in harm's way with the NCAA but Will Lyles is going to say bad things about us? OK.
Either way, we're big fans of Yahoo and Dan Wetzel and Charles Robinson, both of whom are worth a follow.
I can't decide if I am tired of hearing about Will Lyles or it's still sort of amusing. What do you think?

I’m betting the Yahoo story goes something like this.

Is it wrong to ask who the hell is Lance Zierlein and is he trustworthy?
by TexasGarcia39 on Jun 29, 2011 1:01 PM CDT reply actions
I don’t think Yahoo is going to break out the violins like Whitlock did. They seem to be pretty damn thorough and image conscience of there new found position of just internet journalism.
I expect Lyles to once again try to play the race card and for Bellmont to flop a full house on him.
Or even better, just ignore him altogether.

TG39: Zierlein is a longtime radio host in Houston. Formerly of 610, he now works at 1560. He’s mildly funny at times, but attempts to be a know it all because the idiotic and fun loving John Granato isn’t smart enough to call him on his shit. They’re a decent duo, and sadly enough probably the best this tiny little market can come up with.
For the last year or two, Zierlein has also written for Orangebloods, mainly about the NFL. That’s where Ketch comes in.

Did Cleve send summa those pics of Mack doing [REDACTED] that he found in Greg’s desk?

Ketch probably would know. Yahoo owns Rivals afterall.

Zierlein’s father is also a OL coach in the NFL most recently with the Steelers. This is where he gets most of his contacts and info.

And Vasherized for the win! Lyles seems to talk a lot but not really say anything (at least nothing he can prove). I think I saw a quote from him saying that Texas pays high school coaches to steer recruits to them. Seems like Mack’s biggest problem is sorting out which ones he wants the most, not selling them on the program or getting their interest.
by KilgoreTrout on Jun 29, 2011 3:08 PM CDT reply actions
Probably nothing to it. Now, if Lyles convinces Cleve to roll over on Mack, then I’ll start paying closer attention……

LZ is the only blogger on the Houston Chronicle sports website with even half a brain. He’s usually pretty informed and thoughtful. His mock NFL drafts are as good as anyone’s. As far as this story goes, I have no idea.
by Alan on Jun 29, 2011 8:45 PM CDT reply actions
It isn’t hard to find multiple links from LZ to Lyles. Lesbian Craig whose show Lyles was on was a frequent caller on the Lance and John’s show for years and is a former Tech grad. It also happens that one of the frequent guess on Lance and John’s show is former Tech and Texans defense back Marcus Coleman. Coleman also just happens to be a guest on guess whose show? Yep, Lesbian Craig. There are also a few ties that can be found between Lance, the Ft. Bend Hightower program and Lyles.
Lance has good sources. His dad is not only in the NFL, but coached in college for years and was at UH I believe at the end of Bill Yoeman’s time, his brother coaches or coached in high school I believe with Chad Morris at Bay City, and he has some other sources. He is the guy who got out in front of the Albert Haynesworth tampering case with the Redskins.
Did he get this wrong? Possibly, but I do believe he and his morning co-host have an equity stake in the only non corporate AM sports station in Houston. He has the access to have something leaked from the Lyles camp and if I wanted to generate conversation when the Rockets suck, the Astros has been eliminated by June, the NFL talk is still about the lockout, Glenn Davis has the corner on Dynamo talk, I am not sure if 90% of Houston knows who David Bayless and Kevin Sumlin are, and the largest collection of Aggie and Texas alums are in Houston I might throw something like that out there.

Interesting… How does one go about ungraduating – from Tech, or any other school?
by Tex Long on Jun 30, 2011 12:16 AM CDT reply actions
Does anybody on here actually think that the Lyles/Oregon smear campaign did not come out of Mack’s house? I hope Mack’s pathetic whining earns him more embarrassment and he retires in disgrace after another losing season. Really funny that the media is now reporting that Lyles also steered LaMike to UO – I’m sure it was real hard to convince him to go to Oregon with those Minnesota and TCU offers on the table. Mack should spend less time whining about other teams, and more time doing player evaluations and learning Xs and Os. Pathetic.

Lance Zierlein is one of the best sports radio hosts in Houston if what you are looking for is unbiased, insightful talk. Because he avoids rants or taking sides on controversial issues just to stir stuff up, I am a little worried about his comments.
by mastiff0 on Jun 30, 2011 12:38 PM CDT reply actions
Lance avoids rants????
Please tell me you are being sarcastic. Some of his Uncle D rants are classics and who is it that came up with Mack Brown on a mobile?
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 30, 2011 12:48 PM CDT reply actions
You ever hear Craig on the radio?
No – they ain’t but two radio stations in the air (most of the time – leastways, not clear enough to actually listen to) where I live, and I don’t much listen to either one of ‘em. One of ’em’s NPR and the other one isn’t. Did this Craig ungraduate from Tceh? Would he tell me how he accomplished that?
by Tex Long on Jun 30, 2011 1:34 PM CDT reply actions
Tceh? they ain’t but?
Should I now start picking on typos or syntax?
by Davey O'Brien on Jun 30, 2011 1:39 PM CDT reply actions
Sam,
“Lyles/Oregon smear campaign”
By “smear campaign” I assume you mean “the truth”. And it actually started on this site.
by LonghornScott on Jun 30, 2011 1:49 PM CDT reply actions
Should I now start picking on typos or syntax?
Don’t be so sensitive – it’s okay, really. Texas Tech, I get it. I do some business in BuddyHollywood, and I’m even a few miles closer to it than to Austown. Hell, I even have some relatives – albeit by marriage – who attended Tceh. Some of them graduated, and others nongraduated, but none of them ungraduated so far as I know.
As for picking, pick your nose, if that’s what you want to do – or whatever else you can think of instead of answering a question. If it was a typo or a brain fart, that’s fine with me, or if you’re making fun of this “Craig”, that’s likewise fine. If it’s something other… what?
by Tex Long on Jun 30, 2011 1:52 PM CDT reply actions
Which one of you is Jack Lemmon and which one is Walter Mathau?
Obviously Craig is Ann-Margret.
by magnusbleuveigner on Jun 30, 2011 2:07 PM CDT reply actions
Sam,
Well, you would certainly know something about whining.

by Tex Long on Jun 30, 2011 3:37 PM CDT reply actions
Obviously Craig is Ann-Margaret.
Rilly? So Craig and Ann-Margaret undergraduated from uh That School? What is the preferred nomenclature for any or all of those three?
by Tex Long on Jun 30, 2011 3:41 PM CDT reply actions
I just read two of the Yahoo articles and the only thing I can conclude for certain is that LanceZierlein is dumber than a goat.
