Practice Report Video Up: A Couple Tidbits
Here is the release from Pravda.
First, a pretty cool interview with Duane Akina and Major Applewhite discussing Quandre Diggs. He does look like a natural at PR and DB.
Next, a HORRIBLE deep ball from Case McCoy is shown at the 56 second mark which sort of points to what The Asset said about Case's performances yesterday and Tuesday. Duane Akina shows a stronger arm at the 1:19 mark and I'm only half kidding.
Byndom has put on some good weight and looks a bit to me like a young Cedric Griffin out there. Quick, yet lanky.
I know it's not a whole lot but I thought it was worth pointing out. Man, I need some real football.

My God, you’re right. The ball came off Akina’s hand better than McCoy’s. Diggs had about 2 seconds to wait for that duck to come down, and it was still well out of Hales’ reach.

Doesn’t Akina believe he should have beat out Warren Moon when they were both at Washington? Maybe he should have.

I’m sorry for being obtuse, but can someone tell me what exactly about Colt’s ball looks bad?

I mean, besides that it was picked, of course.

Please-
You mean Case. And do you mean outside of the fact that it was overthrown by 8 yards and nearly hit the top of the bubble at it’s peak?

Gotta love Byndon getting physical on that end zone throw.

Haha didn’t even notice I said Colt.
I do mean besides the fact that it was a poor decision and inaccurate. I feel like there are criticisms leveled against Case that have nothing to do with decision making and accuracy (I’m not saying such criticisms re: decision making and accuracy are unwarranted but that’s not what I’m asking about).
I guess it’s not clear to me from that video what about his mechanics look bad. I’m just not seeing the same things most people are and I’d like to learn.

he had to float that pass, no power to direct to the target. every long sling like that he’s essentially throwing up a ‘prayer’

Case’s primary mechanical problem is that he has a tendency to throw off his back foot. Sometimes a quarterback doesn’t have time to step into his throw if he’s under pressure, but Case consistently throws off his back foot. Couple this with a weak arm and you’ve got trouble. Or, as nobis60 so aptly put it: bad juju.
On the play in question, it looks like he does step into his throw, he simply threw a wildly inaccurate rainbow. For lots of examples of him tossing off his back foot, though, watch the spring game or any of a number of the practice videos.

Love Major’s intensity. So glad the awshucksitude has been excised from our program. If we lose, it won’t be because of coaching.

Former Texas player Johnny Walker blast at 247 this morning,
“Everyone knows David Ash won the open competition. There is way more pressure on GG. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain. I would hate to be in his shoes. He doesn’t have the support of the fans nor his teammates. "
