Adjusted Stats through 10/29/11
Adjusted stats and ratings have been updated through yesterday's games. LSU remains in the #1 spot of my EWP ratings heading into their showdown at Alabama. Stanford has risen to #3 after their first win over a strong opponent.
Texas moves up slightly to #21 on the strength of a ridiculous defensive performance against the Jayhawks, and after this week's contests the revised win percentage probabilities in the last 5 games according to the analyzer are 74%, 40%, 62%, 35%, 60% in that order. If you ask me, 3-2 and an 8-4 regular season would be a respectable finish for this squad.

From a predictive standpoint, how does your rating system compare to some of the others out there like Sagarin or Colley?
Sagarin is shedding a pretty positive light on Texas after yesterday’s games.

Agree with your outlook. 8-4 is a good outcome, but a decent shot at 9 wins is exciting.

Well, Colley is terrible at predicting games, but that’s not a reasonable knock against his system because it’s not intended to do that.
I’d say it’s roughly comparable to Sagarin, but I haven’t spent much time tracking Sagarin’s predictive accuracy.

The interesting thing (to me) is that win % probabilities go up if you take care of business, so today’s 8-4 being good could very easily turn into 9-3 being good… and 10-2 not sounding like ridiculous braggadocio…and likewise, not taking care of business could mean just getting bowl eligible would look like Everest on a clear day.
Bottom line? Just keep winning.

Going into this season I felt that 8-4 was the most likely record for this team. I still feel that way today and would be “reasonably satisfied” with that as a fan. 9-3 is about the best anyone can reasonably expect from this team. OTOH, 7-5 is equally possible if the breaks happen to go against us.
I think in most seasons we could expect a little more from this team but it just so happens that the Big 12 is a bitch this year. Just look at Sagarin’s conference ratings.
Now bring on the Sand Aggies!

The improvement I’ve seen so far this year makes me optimistic, but yes, the Big XII is scary this year. Not just from the overall strength, but the up-and-down nature of some teams. Do we get the giant killer Red Raiders who went into Norman and kicked butt, or the Sand Aggies who got their butts kicked by Iowa State? Lord, please let it be the latter.
I can look at the remaining games and see a final record of 7 – 5 to 10 – 2, or anything in between. The fact that we handled a bad team this last week like we should have is what really keeps me from worrying about a 5 – 7 or 6 – 6 season.

I’m glad Tech is this weekend. They didn’t defend the run well this week and it looks like we are going to be a running team for a while. At the beginning of the season it looked like the OL would be terrible but it is getting better. It looked like the receivers would be a strength but they are not doing so well. Linebackers were supposed to be strong and the secondary questionable but those have reversed somewhat as well. So this stage is confusing. Just keep improving each week is all we can hope for. When we become bowl eligible we get extra practice time and experience and that is what this season is about. It is great to watch them mature. This is not going to be our biggest winning season but it is one our more interesting seasons.

Texas is going to run all over Aggy’s ass.
Not sure why so many think that is a sure loss, yes it will be in a hostile environment but Mizzouri went in there and won. Our defense isn’t getting the respect it should and the Aggy offense is getting a little too much respect.
They haven’t exactly been closing out games.

Aggy doesn’t play the same against Missouri as they do Texas.
I am not saying it’s a sure loss but this is possibly the last time they play us and you have to consider they will play their retarded little hearts out.

One of the givens about playing football at The University is that every game against a team from Texas or a team featuring predominantly players from Texas (i.e. most of the XII and several others) is guaranteed to see those “other” Texans foaming at the mouth with desire to bend us over and buttfuck us until blood runs out of our ears. agy, sand agy, church agy, corn agy all same-o same-o, ditto mizzouries.
Thought bubble over sand agy heads: “Iowa State? Who gives a fuck about Iowa State? I want me some TEXAS ass!” Better cinch ‘em up tight boys, and don’t drop the ball.
