So In Summation

I don't know if Case McCoy is the long-term solution at QB, but today I just don't give a damn.

He made a play when the opportunity presented itself.

Photobucket

He karmically paid back the Aggies for "Cart" MCcoy.

And he sent them skipping off into their own personal hell AKA the SEC.

All in all a pretty good night's work.

The payback for ‘Cart’ McCoy was one of the first things I thought of last night.

A pretty good night’s work indeed.

BTW, there was no need for you to sit out in your front yard with a flashlight, srr50, as nikki is probably some guy named Steve who enjoys public nudity. There’s probably a file on him somewhere at Parks and Recreation.

It wasn’t pretty but I’m satisfied to close this chapter on a good note. We can’t keep them from being boneheads, much as we tried. Nice to see our band put on a class act at half time. I like our team and they’re going to get a lot better. Come on, Notre Dame!

Just wanted to say thanks to srr50 for being a voice of reason and bringing some intelligence and class to an otherwise idiotic and disappointing open-game thread last night. I’m not thrilled with the state of our offense either, but some of the bullshit being spewed last night was unforgivable from true fans. There’s a half dozen jackasses I will buy a membership to the pay-site of their choice if they promise to never post here again.

Despite the obvious deficiencies this team has, this was one of my favorite games I’ve ever watched. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen our defense play nastier and there wasn’t an ounce of quit by anyone wearing burnt orange last night. Someone said it well on another thread: thanks aggies for making one of these rivalry games matter to us, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

by AZHorn on Nov 25, 2011 2:09 PM CST reply actions

Yes, it was a sweet and stabbing insult to injury that it was one of the “McCry” brothers who drove the bamboo shoot from hell under the collective Aggie toenail that they will NEVER be able to pull out!

by lurkerinthedark on Nov 25, 2011 4:21 PM CST reply actions

I will totally take Case’s weak arm and lackluster speed over a more physically gifted D.Ash, if he continues to respond (and get the team to respond) in tough situations.

Anyone else notice how hard the team was fighting on the last drive at k-state? This time we got it right. I love the way the team seems to respond to him, and I love that he truly believes he can win; because, after all, his brother did it. I think that is the leg up over Ash. Case knows it’s possible, and therefore he creates his own “luck”.

Next fall, we can open up the depth chart again, but as is….Case closed (sorry, couldn’t resist).

by e1kabong on Nov 25, 2011 6:16 PM CST reply actions

Wasn’t there an aggie or two ridiculing the board fo suggesting we put in cart mccoy’s little brother? God tears taste good.

Case has shown he can do enough to win. Let’s face it- If you’ve got a great defense and running game you don’t need a whole lot from the QB. They’re going to have that next year. He’s going to improve in the offseason, too. Mainly, he needs to hit the weights hard and bulk up a bit. That’s doable.

My main concern for next year is special teams, and most importantly, who are they going to find to replace Tucker?

by Johnny on Nov 26, 2011 12:18 AM CST reply actions

If Case puts on 15 pounds in the off season like his brother before him did, that will help him a bunch. I remember how skinny Colt was in his redshirt freshman season.

Case is faster than that run he made, he runs a 4.7. I think he was worn smooth out .

If he had any down-field blocking it would have helped, it took the whole aggy team to get him on the ground, the kid has good balance, and appears to be tough as nails.

by 55f100tx on Nov 26, 2011 8:27 AM CST reply actions

They were trying to strip the ball and couldn’t do it. That was a football player’s play.

by Bob in Houston on Nov 26, 2011 8:48 AM CST reply actions

Case has shown he can do enough to win… when the defense scores a TD and we return a punt to the other team’s 10, and when one TD is scored via trickery, and when the D limits the other team to very few points.

Other than that, I agree with you. Case has shown he can do enough to win.

by Big Ern on Nov 26, 2011 9:37 AM CST reply actions

Not ragging on Case, but QB is still the biggest gaping hole this team faces in the off-season. I am also optimistic that either Ash or Case can step up in the off-season, but there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical.

I like that Case made a gutsy run and did not turn the ball over. Other than that, I saw nothing that disproved my opinion that the kid should not be seeing the field except in mop-up time if we had any suitable alternative. This offense was beyond anemic the entire game, and for the 3rd consecutive weak we made a middling to poor defense look like world beaters.

If Byndom does not get the pick 6, Diggs doesn’t have an 80 yd return, or Kenny V doesn’t snag the sideline pick, I am pretty sure the past 48 hours would have centered on Case’s inability to get us more than a single first down in the first half, his need to dance in the pocket regardless of pressure, his inaccurate and weak arm, and getting the clock violation to kill the one drive where we started to run the ball with success.

I hope he improves, but for all the people that are professing confidence in Case McCoy – I am not sure I was watching the same game as you on Thursday.

by Big Ern on Nov 26, 2011 9:46 AM CST reply actions

Case McCoy deserves our undying gratitude no matter how his career ultimately unfolds. What we have available today and next year at QB cannot be changed. All we can hope is that the coaches will be able to make the best of it for all of us.

by Flash on Nov 26, 2011 9:57 AM CST reply actions

Hey, I am proud of whoever wears the uniform. I am proud of Garret Gilbert, Chance Mock and all the other kids who have played and might not have seen their careers unfold the way they dreamed.

Just saying, let’s not build up the Case-hype to unreasonable levels and then despair when we realize that he is well, …. not very good.

I will remember this game forever, and Case gutted out that last drive. People will talk about this game for decades and Case’s legacy is secure even if he never plays another down. But those expecting too much from Case are setting themselves up for disappointment.

by Big Ern on Nov 26, 2011 10:12 AM CST reply actions

Case’s legacy? He broke pocket too early once again and did the scared deer scamper for 25 yards while giving me and thousands of others heart attacks while he was pinballed around instead of just going down. That play is his legacy, the rest of the game was an embarrassment offensively. That game was our defense’s legacy and no one elses.

I appreciate that Case didn’t turn the ball over, and that may be the best we get out of the QB position this year, but if we had a halfway competent QB we win 10 or 11 this season.

by AZHorn on Nov 26, 2011 11:09 AM CST reply actions

Now if we could get Davis to catch the ball. Hopefully Shipley feels good against Baylor. Goodwin needs to add to his A&Mgame.

Not expecting too much, just the comfort level to increase for him and progress between now and game 1 of next season.

by 55f100tx on Nov 26, 2011 11:12 AM CST reply actions

And Case completed what? 3 passes on that last drive? The run gave me a heart attack also. Thousands of people were thinking, “Hold the ball and fall to the ground,” all at the same time.

Case needs a good dose of Wylie in the off season and a little attitude adjustment. Ash? I’m not sure. Maybe a few therapy sessions. Anyway, the future is bright. I’m thinking Overstreet and/or Ash on the wildcat next season.

i have a question for the ags who hang around here wanting to be somewhere that amounts to something.

i see lots of talk on ag boards regarding replacing sherman with someone like sherill. my question is: had sherrill gone from pitt to coaching in the sec, would a&m have given him the time of day, not to mention a few million bucks?

lots of ags seem to feel they are stuck with sherman for another year at least. problem for them if that is true is that a year or two of substandard performance in the sec will really impact their recruiting, and whoever is so unfortunate as to replace sherman will have lost whatever is left of the momentum from last year. they are in a bad, bad place, and i don’t see how they get out of it.

AZ – WTF? Re:QB situation, it is what it fucking is. Mack Brown put us in this situation. Give the kid a break.

As to the OP, this game was swimming in Karma. As much as I wanted this game to end 34-16 or somesuch after that dominant 3rd quarter, to cut their heart out at the end w/“Cart’s” brother wielding the knife – poetry.

by trkhorn on Nov 26, 2011 3:31 PM CST reply actions

trk – My comment wasn’t directed at Case. I rooted for him and appreciate the fact he didn’t fuck up. That doesn’t make him a hero in my book. He did what he was supposed to do and not very well. One 25 yard run and the fact he shares Colt’s last name seems to have erased the fact that he’s not a good QB from several poster’s minds, to the point of crediting him with the win. I just wanted to point out that it was our defense’s victory. Without their effort there is no way McCoy or Ash leads us to a win. We’re all well aware that Mack is responsible for the QB situation, that doesn’t make what we have any better. Is that clear enough for you?

by AZHorn on Nov 26, 2011 6:06 PM CST reply actions

Case is my hero because Case is all we’ve got!

Well deserved victory sips.

It did surprise me that Cult’s little brother won that game for you but that skinny little dude is tough!

20 years to remember this game. Please play us, so I can forget.

by Aggie Jack on Nov 26, 2011 6:24 PM CST reply actions

Very glad for the win. D and special teams kept us in and basically won it. I love Case as a competitor, but anyone that watched that game knows for all time that he does not have the arm to play at this level if we want to win. The D played lights out, special teams performed at their best level for this year, and the big difference was we had a receiver that could get open and actually catch the ball in traffic ( Shipley). Without Shipley we do not have a passing game.

by billw on Nov 26, 2011 7:57 PM CST reply actions

AZ – crystal. The thread is about beating aggy not our QB dilemma which is well-documented.

As stated already, the Texas defense was the deciding factor in the game.

Case was the best QB we had available to play on Thanksgiving, and he did a commendable job under intense pressure (ultra loud noise, national TV, last Texas-vs-A&M game for many years to come) at Kyle Field. He threw zero interceptions but had plenty of his passes dropped, leading to so many three-and-outs. Even with his lack of experience (comparable to a redshirt freshman) and the big-game pressure, he didn’t wilt or sulk or act confused, but made an effort to rally the team and made a key 25-yard scramble when the game was on the line, when it mattered most.

Case reminds me of a feisty JRT (Jack Russell Terrier), who is small is size yet displays energy and passion that rivals dogs 5 times larger. Case certainly isn’t the best looking dog in the kennel, but like DKR used to say, if they’ll bite as a dog, they’ll bite as a pup.

Right now, Case is the best we’ve got. So as long as he gives us his best, let’s just appreciate what we have and not worry or complain about anything until new signal callers arrive in the Spring, when the QB competition can start fresh.

by PoofyBevo on Nov 27, 2011 12:15 PM CST reply actions

well said Poofy. that is where i am at as well.

by Big Ern on Nov 27, 2011 2:07 PM CST reply actions

Poofy….

Your comment definitely seems to catch most of our sentiment. I don’t want to patronize Ash and give him some naive comments like we all did for Garret. I just don’t know enough about him to say what his skills are… but he looked a little “freaked out” in the game. We had to call a timeout after one play because he was so confused.

Which… in a completely ADHD comment, is the opposite of Jaxon…. he seemed like he was on klonopin…. very mellow.

by bHero on Nov 28, 2011 4:40 PM CST reply actions

I know everyone is ragging about our QB, but an equally galling problem is WR. If they could catch a cold, or run good routes, both QBs would look better. To be fair, they block passably.
