Did Kenny V get credit for the final tackle?!

It ended as it began, The University of Texas winning.

As a photog who has been in that situation many times I salute you for your attention to detail and your lengthiest shot, JENN BROWN.

Awesome. I hadn’t realized that you’re only 4’ tall though.

How does one go about getting on the field for a game like that? You have some kind of press credentials or just sleeping with the right people?

by Nunna Yo Bizness on Nov 26, 2011 7:38 PM CST reply actions

I’ve been on the field after the last two games at Cult Field. We had seats down in that endzone two years ago.

Jealous…

Great video!

by TXPride on Nov 26, 2011 7:45 PM CST reply actions

I’ll give the coverage of this celebratory effort a C+.

 The positives:

1) The shriek of joy was unbridled in an appropriate manner

2) The coverage of Coach Applewhite and young Jaxon dancing on Kyle Field was a deft touch in allegory. What always has been always will be

3) A snippet of Cochran’s “there is much more where this came from” stoicism bodes well for the future of the undoubtedly many post game exhalations

The negatives:

1) Aggie misery wasn’t given adequate time in the narrative. There was great potential in this area with the initial crest fallen inbred being seen dejectedly bending down to the turf. However in a case like this there has to be deliberate intention in the midst orgasmic celebration. Coverage of “old ag” alumni lament and sheep herding coaches who simultaneously feel embarrassment and profound job security would have enriched the bouquet’s flavour

2) The lack of a snap of the final score board took this particular celebratory piece from the solid B range

I’m sure Longhornscott can shed much greater insight on the coverage of such a lugubrious scene

Hook’em

In absence of an open thread, I will just post this here. Is anybody watching the Tech/Baylor game? I was watching Stanford for a while and apparently RGIII is out. He is on the sidelines in pads and looks fine, but the game commentators are referring to a potential head injury. Did anybody see the play? Any more info out there?

by DeepEddy on Nov 26, 2011 8:23 PM CST reply actions

Really, really enjoyable.

Thanks, Huck.

by parlin on Nov 26, 2011 8:35 PM CST reply actions

RG lll took an elbow to the head and appeared to be fine as he scored
A TD moments. But shortly thereafter, Baylor trainer Louis Winthorpe asked Robert how he was feeling and he responded, “feeling good, Louis”, but almost immediately broke in to some drivel about pork bellies an orange juice futures.

by Ameche on Nov 26, 2011 8:49 PM CST reply actions

Before the second quarter ended Griffin ran and slid feet first. A Texas Tech defender decided to hit him anyway. I believe he got hit with a forearm to the head and bounced it off the turf. Griffin came back into the game two plays later to rush for a touchdown, but looked a bit off. Tech scored a touchdown of their own. Baylor took a knee to go to the locker room.

Art Briles said Griffin was fine when asked by sideline reporter. My guess is upon further examination, RG3 showed concussion symptoms. Second half play from scrimmage began with Nick Florence in at QB.

Earlier in the half, a Tech defender hit Griffin in the knee after a play was whistled dead. I don’t generally root for the Bears, but I’d like to see them win this and the conference take Tuberville to task for some of the tactics used in this game. To be fair, Baylor also has been flagged for some unsportsmanlike penalties, although Fox Sports somehow didn’t manage to get any of them on camera. Depending on how bad they were, I’d probably favor tossing those guys from the game as much as I would the Tech guys. 15 yards just doesn’t cut it for some of these dirty play violations, but I could be in the minority in that thinking.

by Saul on Nov 26, 2011 8:50 PM CST reply actions

Deep Eddy: He got targeted as he was giving himself up on a scramble. The Tech DB lowered his shoulder in order to hit RG III in the head. The guy should have been tossed, but he wasn’t.

Meanwhile, RG III went out, then came back two plays later to score on a 3-yard option run (untouched). Going off the field, Art Briles said he was fine, but when they came back from the half, he had been ruled out.

So they’ve burned Florence’s redshirt for a second time and he has hit a couple of TD passes.

by Bob in Houston on Nov 26, 2011 8:50 PM CST reply actions

Guys, thanks for the info. I had to fill in the gaps, because I was flipping back and forth to the Stanford game. I flipped back and saw that Florence was in the game on 1st and goal, and the commentators were discussing the hit on Griffin but they weren’t specific about what had happened. Then I saw RGIII come back in and run for the TD, but I flipped back and saw Florence start the 3rd quarter, which is what prompted my question to the field.

Really strange they let him come back in and run for the TD if he wasn’t right.

by DeepEddy on Nov 26, 2011 8:58 PM CST reply actions

Saul, I agree with what you are saying about dirty plays. The thing that really drives me crazy is that plays like Kenny V. making a really big hit where there is clearly no intent to play dirty is penalized the same as a play like what you describe happening to RGIII. I know it is hard for the officials to tell whether there is intent, but sometimes it is pretty clear.

by DeepEddy on Nov 26, 2011 9:01 PM CST reply actions

To be fair to the officials, there is nothing about intent in the rule. If it’s a foul, they’re supposed to call it. But if you’re called for targeting, you can be thrown out of the game, and that should have happened in this case.

by Bob in Houston on Nov 26, 2011 9:05 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, I realize there is nothing in the rule for the officials to call, I am just suggesting that maybe there should be. I also feel that the discretionary ejection is not utilized as often as it should be.

Sorry to everybody for the blatant thread-jack, please continue reveling in the most recent win!

Looking ahead, if we get past Baylor we end up in a 3-way tie with them and Mizzou. We’d both have a better overall record than Mizzou and have beaten Baylor head to head. So I’m thinking we might be the #4 team in the Big12 which would put us in the Insight bowl against the B1G #5. Based on the final standings of the B1G it looks to me like that may be Nebraska. If we played them and beat them in the bowl Tom Osborne might have an anuerysm.

love the video, great moments not yet mentioned, the aggy player crying with the quick scan of the name and then he zooms away and then the cameraman’s schoolgirl giggling, awesome!

Penalties for hits on RG were questionable.

On the first one, the corner was blitzing and didn’t hear the whistle for the false start penalty, he was then bumped by the RB, but stil managed to hit RG with a glancing blow. RG then did a great acting job and crumpled to draw the flag.

Second hit which knocked him out of the game was worse, but still was not helmet-to-helmet. RG is sliding toward sideline and the guy turns his body to avoid H-to-H, hitting RG in the head with his shoulder pad. Properly flaged as a bad hit, but not obviously intentional.

by BBob on Nov 26, 2011 11:44 PM CST reply actions

Have to disagree with ya BBob. The Tech player forearm shivered RG in the head when he was on the turf. Kid should have been kicked out of the game.

by g'69 on Nov 27, 2011 12:06 AM CST reply actions

Griffin looked with it on the sidelines in the second half.

by Juice on Nov 27, 2011 12:27 AM CST reply actions

Was at the Tech game. The play where Griffin had his knees taken out after the false start was not the defender’s fault. Flag was thrown without a whistle. The first whistle wasn’t blown until the defender had already launched himself at Griffin.

Saul, that was the funniest thing I’ve seen in many days.

Looks like Justin ran across the field towards the Aggie bench – ensuring our celebration was in their despondent faces.

Good decision and a fitting way to end the rivalry.

Hi, everyone! Need some suggestions. I’m going to College Station this week to visit the wife’s friends. What would you do to have some fun at the expense of the Aggies short of walking into a bar at 1am in longhorn gear and talking trash? I’m thirsty for some Aggie tears..

They’re binary thinkers – A&M = good; UT = bad.

What more do you expect from them?

On a side note, my brother who was in marching band in high school says that the gomer band’s routine is VERY simplistic. Not only is the cadence slow, but it’s easy to march forward in straight lines.
