Mack Brown Silences Critics with Huge Victory Over a Kansas State University

Austin, Texas - The #24 Texas Longhorns earned a huge victory on Saturday, defeating a Kansas state university, 21-17. Kansas State entered Saturday undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation, with an average margin of victory of 27 points per game. But the Wildcats' impressive resume did not affect the Longhorns, who escaped Kansas with a big win.

According to Texas coach Mack Brown, Saturday's win was a huge victory for the Texas program. And it was certainly a personal vindication for the Texas head coach. While Brown had recently fallen under harsh criticism from fans, opposing coach Charlie Weis led a program that boasts college football's most storied history and 11 national titles.

"Kansas State is a great football team that is talented and exceptionally well-coached," said Brown after the game. "We're excited to come up here and get a huge win over a Kansas state university."

Texas's offensive performance was especially notable. The Longhorns did not attempt even a single field goal, gaining all of their points on touchdowns. The parade of Longhorn touchdowns started only four minutes into the game and didn't wrap up until only 12 seconds remained in the fourth quarter. Even more impressive: Texas's success came against defensive coordinator Dave Campo, who coached a squad loaded with NFL talent at every position and often dubbed "America's Team."

The Texas defense did its part as well. The D held a Kansas state university to only 17 points, despite the fact that Weis's offense featured the best quarterback in football, Tom Brady. Brady did not complete even a single pass against the Longhorns.

The big win should be a huge confidence boost for the Longhorns and their fans, especially with the reemergence of C. McCoy at quarterback. C. McCoy is the most accurate passer in college football history, and has a career record of 45-8 at Texas.

"We're really excited about this win," said coach Brown. "If you had told me yesterday that Texas would beat third-ranked, undefeated Kansas State in football today, I would have called you crazy. But, here we are a day later, thrilled with a close-fought, last-second Longhorn victory over a Kansas state university."

"Yep," continued Brown. "Here we are."
