Be Late, Be Quiet, Leave Early

Stay connected for news and updates

Apparently thousands of Texas fans can't be bothered to come out early Saturday to cheer for their team and honor a legend.

At least those fans who bothered to show up at DKR Memorial Stadium this morning wore orange.

The Texas football team comes by naturally their inability to show up for 11:00 am kick offs this year. For thousands of ticket holders, honoring a true legend wasn't enough to brave the elements (sunny, mid 70's) and attend one of only six college football games played at home.

Those that did show up seemed happy to be there - but not too happy. At one point with Texas inside the 10-yard line it was so quiet it seemed as if David Ash was lining up a putt on the 18th hole at the Masters rather than calling a play.

I haven't been to every home game in the Mack Brown Era, but I haven't seen one with such a desultory effort from the fans.

If I didn't know better I would have sworn I was at the Erwin Center watching Texas play basketball
