Can the Texas Longhorns stumble out of Maui with at least one victory? The 7th place winner awaits!
The Mississippi St. Bulldogs have been ravaged by injury, bringing just six scholarship players to Maui. The Bulldogs lost their top 4 players off last year's squad--Arnett Moultrie, Dee Bost, Rodney Hood, and Renardo Sidney. Top returnee Jalen Steele hurt his wrist two games into the year and is out for six weeks. Fellow starter Colin Borchert was suspended around the same time. And two expected freshmen contributors were lost prior to the seaon due to torn ACLs.
Of the players MSU does have, senior forward Roquez Johnson has been the best contributor, hitting double digits in scoring in each of the three games he has played. Freshman guard Fred Thomas chipped in 17 points last night in the Bulldogs' loss to Marquette. Big man Wendell Lewis will do battle with Cameron Ridley and Prince Ibeh in the paint.
The Bulldogs should have but a minute shot of winning, but the Longhorns have proven adept at snagging defeat from the jaws of predicted victory.
