This from Kirk Bohls in yesterday's AAS.
5. Mike Leach told me that the Southeastern Conference's streak of six football national championships is very impressive, but he reminds that sports are cyclical. "They're very good," the Washington State coach said of the SEC, "but they're not to be worshipped." He said he didn't think he would try to schedule any Big 12 teams anytime soon because all Pacific-12 programs are locked in to a nine-game conference schedule and very soon a Big Ten opponent every year.
When I reminded him how much he loved playing Texas A&M, he remembered the time he got into a situation with an upset member of the Corps of Cadets during pregame warmups at Kyle Field. Leach sort of defused the tension by asking, "Hey, do you know where a guy could get a good haircut around here?" He's proud of the fact that one of his former quarterbacks, Kliff Kingsbury, now is new head coach Kevin Sumlin's offensive coordinator and added, "Shouldn't they send me a sword or something out of gratitude?"
God, I hope he's successful at WSU! College football needs more guys like him. Welcome back, Matey!
