As the ND/Michigan State game kicks off, I'm watching with keener interest than usual for a game featuring Midwestern teams. Why, you ask? The Michigan State head coach, Mark Dantonio. His team has the #1 ranked defense in the NCAA. He's been to 6 straight bowls, and has had back-to-back 11 win seasons in the Big Ten. He's beaten Michigan four straight times. He's the head coach at Michigan State, where one Nick Saban coached some time ago, and has coached UNDER Nick Saban. At Michigan State, the Midwestern equivalent of Texas Tech (no offense, RRaiders fans), he's accumulated a .676 winning percentage, not too shabby for a head coach of a conference second tier team. He's unafraid of shuffling quarterbacks, and has experimented with as many as FOUR quarterbacks, even this season. I think he'd be fine as a replacement for Mack Brown.
