Getting it done when scoring opportunities arise

Do you remember when we struggled mightily when we got to Goal to Go situations a few years back? Well, no longer.
In 8 games this year, Texas has had 24 FIRST AND GOAL situations (3 per game). We have scored 23 touchdowns (16 rushing and 7 passing) in 44 plays. That is [...]

When Tony Barnhart types, I read

Mr. College Football, Tony Barnhart, said he thinks Fullmer is done at Tennessee.
It’s hard to see Fulmer returning as Tennessee’s coach: Phillip Fulmer is an old offensive lineman which means he will work and fight until the last game is over. But what I saw Saturday night in Knoxville was a sense of resignation that [...]

Big XII Counseling Session

This has been floating around in emails the past few weeks, so I assume most of you have seen it, but if not, here it is. It is worth the read. Here is the original blog post from Bring On The Cats. H/T to our readers below (jc25 and dimecoverage) for finding [...]

First, the post RRS euphoria

And now, even the NBA preview

How to treat people who work for you when they get offered an opportunity to better their career

From the AAS blog:
“Will will be a great head coach,” Brown said. “He’s smart. He’s tough. He’s got a great relationship with the kids. … He’s demanding, and he’s as positive as he is demanding.”

Stats are for losers

“Stats are for losers,” Muschamp said. “I like winning games.”
While I tend to agree with Muschamp on almost everything (like the the sun rising in the West and that the earth is flat), I do take exception with the stats part. I, too, like to win games. I like digging into the stats [...]

Plenty of other names for Clemson

Now that Tommy Bowden has been fired mutually agreed to step down at Clemson, we can look at potential candidates. Muschamp’s name will surface for every job, but I don’t think this is the one. While traveling the internet, I found these guys as potentials (in my order of likelihood):
Lane Kiffin - the [...]

TX/OU Must See

Barking Carnival is buzzing this week with contributions ranging from looking back to games of yore to gameweek breakdowns.

You do not want to miss these, um, posts:
Trips Right woke up Sunday morning with wood and pointed out four things to be hopeful about:
1. Will Muschamp
2. Johnny Dingle (i.e. our defensive ends versus their offensive tackles)
3. Blitzing
4. Our [...]

Texas-Mizzou game could be a national primetime telecast

The Big 12 announced their TV games for the October 18th weekend.
ABC will wait until this Sunday to decide whether Texas-Mizzou is the 2:30 or 7 pm slot. Kansas-Oklahoma will get the other ABC slot. I’d guess the winner of the Red River Shootout will be the primetime telecast.
If Texas wins, Austin will [...]

Darrell Scott was THE recruiting story of the past 5 years, but he will be a non-factor this weekend

Darrell Scott was the biggest recruiting story Texas fans followed for many, many years. It came down to the last week of the recruiting season which is, by far, the exception and not the rule for past 10 years.
Scott was not just a 5-star recruit, but a top 5 national recruit. And he [...]

Gameday reading for Arkansas

We have had some great information this week and two weeks ago when we were first slated to roast the pigs, so here is a recap for you.
Arkansas at Texas
2:30 Kickoff
Televised on ABC
ABC Regional Coverage Map
Also available on ESPN360.com if you don’t have a TV but do have a computer and the right high speed [...]

Irby is officially out for the year

If you saw the play, you knew he would be out for the year. But, the MB-TF site announced it officially today.
Longhorn sophomore starting tight end Blaine Irby sustained a dislocated right knee in Texas’ 52-10 victory over Rice on Saturday, will undergo surgery and is out for the rest of the season, UT [...]

OU’s Granger out for the Texas game

ESPN is reporting that DeMarcus Granger is out for at least four weeks. That means he is out for the Red River Shootout. He is potentially out for the season. That sucks for Granger and OU given the way it happened, but good for the Longhorn’s chances of victory.
“I know it’s been [...]

The Big 12 is now the best conference in college football

Get used to it, SEC fans. OK, I actually think the Big 12 deserves a meaningful discussion with the SEC, but since every SEC blogger and bulletin board posse have set Google Alerts for all discussions regarding best conference, I figured I’d poke them in the eye so their dander would be up by [...]

36-Hour CramSession: College Football Week 3

The beauty of the unexpected bye week is that it gave us all an opportunity to see a lot more football on TV than most game weeks.
I learned the following:
Josh Nesbitt of Georgia Tech may be the best sophomore QB you haven’t heard about. That’s probably because he plays for Georgia Tech. Think [...]

More impressive - Coffman or Moreno?

Chase Coffman

EXHIBIT A - Week 1
EXHIBIT B - Week 2 - It is not on Youtube yet, so I apologize for having you endure Mike DeArmond again, but you can see Coffman’s leap over the SE Missouri CB on his vblog.
Knowshon Moreno

Sam McGuffie’s high school clips do not get a vote. MDR, I have [...]

Horns, Hogs, and Nixon Coming

My father-in-law, Gary, is a true orange-blooded Texas Longhorn. He is the only child of two graduates of the University of Texas. He graduated from the pharmacy school the year of our last national championship (pre-Vince), married a Longhorn, and raised two daughters – both Texas graduates and both Texas Angels while [...]

Surviving the Surge

I had hoped that Brown would at least change it to “Rolling (with the) Tide” in deference to his colleague, Mike Price, but no luck there.
“Give El Paso credit; this place was electric,” Brown said. “They surged at the first of the game. Then our guys stood up and handled it.”
It is nice to [...]

Gameday reading for the UTEP game

We have had a ton of great posts with some great information this week and things tend to get missed so I wanted to recap a couple of items for you guys.
Texas at UTEP (Sun Bowl)
9:15 Kickoff
Televised on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD (Mark Jones and Bob Davie)
Also available on ESPN360.com if you don’t have [...]

More Week 2 College Football Line Action

I don’t really want to steel Trips Right’s thunder with adding some more games, but since the Prodigal Son returned to Juarez El Paso early this week, I think we need to revive some line talk. Plus, if we don’t, Big Satan will resort to only betting 5-team parlays.
A few updates on two of [...]
