Think how it must feel to be an Aggie today. Think how you would feel while reading ESPN.com’s ranking of today’s hottest college football rivalries that was published this week. Imagine reading that the “rivalry” you’ve been brainwashed into believing was the most important in your life - that of course being with the detested school you so cleverly refer to as “tu” - does not appear anywhere on that list. Imagine then reading that ESPN considers your main rivalry to be the one with Texas Tech - which you again very cleverly call “tick”, ha-hah.

Some of you die-hard Barking Carnival regulars may remember the first episode of Tales From The Cable Guy, posted back in December, posted here: Tales of The Cable Guy
If you remember that little drama, you were led to believe that Comcast had ultimately, finally, at long last, somehow accidentally stumbled upon a solution to the [...]

…and I found it out on Abe Books dot com late last week.
I’ve spent the last dozen years now building a collection of what I hope now is every book ever written about Texas Longhorn football. As of Thursday, I’m pretty sure the collection is complete.
About four years ago, right as I thought I had [...]

Just a few thoughts on last night’s latest national humiliation of the sham Sooners…
If Denver really is willing to hire Stoops, he’d be well advised to take the job. He has pretty much run out his string at Oklahoma, and has demonstrated yet again he lacks the ability to get over that last hump. Texas [...]

Sometimes in football, you play poorly and look bad because of it. Sometimes, you play a real quality opponent that makes you look bad, even though you played well. For the Texas Longhorns, Monday’s Fiesta Bowl game with the Ohio State Buckeyes was a combination game, a contest in which the Longhorns played fairly poorly [...]

Seriously, someone really give me a good explanation why we didn’t see the national champs on the field last night, pummeling a very good Alabama team, a team which spent most of the regular season as the top-ranked team in the country? Because I can’t think of a reason at this point to deny the [...]

Yesterday officially killed New Year’s Day as the best football-viewing day of the year. Truth is, it’s been dead since the advent of the BCS - I just figured it out yesterday, probably because this was the least hungover I’ve been on New Year’s day in the last decade or so. Best game of the [...]

According to the folks at ESPN, he’s on the early list to replace the dearly departed Mike Shanahan.
I would surely hate to see this happen, mainly because Mack Brown has just begun what is going to become a long period of domination of Poops, having won 3 of the last 4, and the image of this turd [...]

Those of us who are over 45 or so can remember when the Dallas Cowboys were tagged with the label of “next year’s champions” - the team that always looked good to those making pre-season predictions, but which invariably fell short when it came time to produce in the late-season and the playoffs. Today’s thrashing at the [...]

This year we have 34 bowl games to pick from. That means 68 out of the 119 Division IA (or whatever they call it now) schools get to participate in what passes for the “postseason” for major college football. I find that to be utterly disgusting.
At the New Orleans Bowl a couple of days ago, there [...]

Katy High has now won six state championships in its history, five since 1995. Southlake Carrol has gotten tons and tons of attention for its incredible record in three different classifications over the last 15 years, and deservedly so. But Katy’s record is almost as impressive, and five championships in 14 years ranks them among [...]

[Note: I have been engaged for the last two weeks in the most frustrating, yet hilarious, running battle with Comcast to get a simple problem with one of my cable outlets fixed. Early on, I found out the email address of Comcast's Senior VP of Customer Service, a fellow named Rick Germano. Since we're into [...]

This will be very brief, because I didn’t watch much football yesterday.
It occurs to me that the Big 12 specifically, and major collegiate football in general, have a very big problem on their hands thanks to the outcomes of last week’s BCS formula tabulations and yesterday’s SEC and Big 12 Championship Games. That problem is: [...]

…of whipping Bobby Stoops,
Missouri saying oops,
Aggies whining, Colt was shining,
Cheerleaders doing loops,
We thank you, so much.
Oh, thanks for the memories,
A perfect Turkey Day,
Cowboys put away,
Stadium rocking, defense shocking,
Bevo eating hay,
Oh, thank you, so much.
Ok, enough of the bad lyrics. You get the point.
Seriously, we’re all pretty upset right now with the royal screwing this great Longhorn [...]

I swear to God in heaven above, the next time I hear some talking (pin)head on television utter the phrase “style points” in the context of analysis of college football, I am going to throw my poor cat through the TV screen. I’ve been wanting to get [...]

Well, the era of The Red Raider hath come to an end. It was a magnificent run, one that lasted all of two games played at night in Jones Stadium against the brutes from Austin and the land of Still Waters. This era will forever be remembered in the lore of the Llano Estacado as the Great Time of [...]

“This” is rooting for OU this coming Saturday night.
Honest to goodness, the only times in my life I have openly rooted for Oklahoma to win a football game has been a couple of times when they were playing A&M, and even then, I found myself deeply conflicted on the matter.
Logic tells me that I must [...]

Many are asking the question right now: When was the last time The University of Texas hired a head football coach who had no prior head coaching experience at the collegiate level?
The answer to that question is: Ed Price.
So why does the name Blair Cherry appear in the title to this post? Because the circumstance of [...]

“It’s a trap game, I tell ya, Eyes, a trap game. It’s gonna be cold, it’s gonna be wet, our team’s all beat up, and we’re due for the wheels to come off. This is a game we lose under Mack Brown.”
That was my buddy Don’s opinion last Wednesday as we lunched at the Austin [...]

Yesterday was a day for revelations in college football. In the Big 12 and across the country, we found out realities about highly-rated teams that some had suspected might be true, but for which we needed some independent confirmation.
Yesterday was a day when the wheat of the college football elite began their November-long separation from [...]
