Though it actually makes more sense that, instead of deep thinkers, the Aggies actually have a bunch of dangling … stuff delivering commentary.

Not only are the Ags going to have trouble landing any of their usual passel of big names, I think there’s going to be enough churn at places like Ole Miss and UCLA that they may miss out on the top unheralded guys.

My biggest fear with that crew is they’ll fall back-assward into a Stoops type of guy.

I’d hire Major if i was them… dirt cheap and nothing to lose and they’d blame it on him being a Horn if he failed! ha Only problem is if he’d be able to hire a staff. He’s only been in the game for 4 years max?

Turner Gill is actually a good guy, and from Ft. Worth to boot. That’s a hire I’d be content to see succeed, as long as it’s never at our expense.

My concern with the aggies is that they don’t get any of the guys they really want and thus back into a really good coach who could actually be happy and successful in College Station. I remain confident however that they will again overpay for mediocrity or a guy who will leap for the next bigger, better deal.

Both Fran and Byrne hold cards in a buyout negotiation. Byrne has documented (minor) NCAA violations in the VIP newsletter. Fran has undocumented (major) NCAA violations in his memory. They will probably meet in the middle.

Given TAMU’s building debt, and their buyout costs from Fran, they might still make a case for taking on more debt to make that big hire. If it works out big, they can make a ton more money from football. If they try to hire on the cheap, and it doesn’t work out, they will still be in a bad financial way.
