Sadly, the the only part of the story of which I was legitimately proud - the Caligulan bisexual drug-raging alcohol-fueled Longhorn orgy - has been completely discredited by Chip Brown’s excellent work at Orangebloods. Chip Brown did first-rate work at DMN and it’s good to see his journalistic curiousity aroused while the mainstream press […]

What a game.
My stomach was so upset before the game I couldn’t eat or drink. After the game I was so full of adrenaline that I had to drink. Sailor Ripley began to feed me vodkas while he pounded Mexican beer (to his credit, the moment he opened his beer we […]

That was my text to Scipio as the game ended yesterday. Part of my thinking wasn’t really thinking at all. I had just watched the greatest Texas-Oklahoma game I’ve ever seen, and I was fucking exhilarated. But after the dust settled, both polls have us number one. Deservedly so.
This is a different Texas team and […]

Had great 7th row seats at the game (best I’ve ever had) and I was absolutely struck by the athleticism by both teams. Scrambles and draws that would get Colt 8-9 yards were only netting 2 and 3. Perhaps it was because OU was spying Colt on most passing situations, but still angles […]

How in the hell did we get to this point? Bob Stoops wondered as he looked across the field as the clocked ticked off the last couple of minutes of game time at his arch-rival Mack Brown. This is three out of four. Three out of four, and we were damn lucky to win last […]

1. This is Mack Brown’s 2nd best win, ever. You could make a case for #1.
2. This is the best Texas/OU game in the last 30 or so years.
3. Our October is tough but we just beat the best team we’ll play this year. We’re going to be in the conference title game. A win […]

So far the defense has been gashed with misdirection, but if protocol holds they’ll adjust mentally and improve rapidly as the day goes on.
They just held OU to a 3 and out, with OU running any misdirection. Flag though. Just a running into the kicker, which OU declines.
Texas’ OL is holding up OK but they […]

Bob Stoops presents a different challenge to offensive staffs (staves?) preparing to play him. Most teams will try to establish something on offense to open up other, more productive avenues for themselves later in the game.

Barking Carnival is buzzing this week with contributions ranging from looking back to games of yore to gameweek breakdowns.
You do not want to miss these, um, posts:
Trips Right woke up Sunday morning with wood and pointed out four things to be hopeful about:
1. Will Muschamp
2. Johnny Dingle (i.e. our defensive ends versus their offensive tackles)
3. Blitzing
4. Our […]

Taylor TRoom makes an impressive argument for the value of the Texas-OU contest being played in Dallas. He bases it on the neutral site and the national championship implications of the rivalry.
Today I would like to make the case for keeping the game the way it is, and where it is, from another angle. This […]

When Texas went to Fayetteville in October of 1965, the Horns were riding high on the hog. Texas was #1 in one poll - #2 in the other. From the start of the 1961 season until that Saturday, Texas was 44-3-1. They had taken up permanent residence in the Top 5, with one National Championship […]

I am convinced that the Texas/OU game is one of our program’s greatest assets. Unfortunately, I am also convinced it is one of the OU program’s greatest assets (exceeded only by booster cash and the lack of an institutional moral compass) too. Here’s why.
The two distinguishing characteristics of the Red River Shootout (RRS- I prefer […]

It’s Texas-OU Week. To fully understand the passion this brings to both sides, you have to understand the history involved. I thought I would put up a few posts on what are for me, some of the most significant games of this rivalry.
Begining with the game that happened 50 years ago. Texas had a great […]

According to Sooner Scoop. There’s a chance starting Center John Cooper will be limited as well. Bodes well for Texas especially when you consider the Sooner scouting report from Barking’s Jimmy The Greek.

It’s time.
Food tastes better, the suns shines brighter, and irritability to slights are magnified one thousandfold. Both fanbases - despite any degree of outward confidence - will be nursing ulcers by Wednesday. Over the next six days, I will mentally review scenarios in which Texas is blown out, we blow OU out, we […]

ESPN is reporting that DeMarcus Granger is out for at least four weeks. That means he is out for the Red River Shootout. He is potentially out for the season. That sucks for Granger and OU given the way it happened, but good for the Longhorn’s chances of victory.
“I know it’s been […]

ESPN announced yesterday that Chris, Kirk, Lee, and Desmond (how does he still draw a paycheck?) are going to be in Gainesville for the Miami-Florida match-up. That should tell you how shitty this week’s games are since this is not 2001 and Florida is favored by 3 touchdowns.
That will be Florida’s 28th appearance on […]

In order for me to avoid thoughts of suicide over the summer I have to talk myself into certain aspects of the Longhorn football team. Usually it’s some version of “Greg Davis will learn from his mistakes finally,” and it never seems to happen. But that + trampolines + water sprinklers makes for a happy […]
